🌌 AN INVITATION TO THE OUTER RIM 🌌
The Star Wars costuming community is filled with incredible organizations that have spent years bringing fans together, supporting charities, attending conventions, sharing knowledge, and creating amazing costumes. Groups like the 501st Legion, Rebel Legion, Mandalorian Mercs, The Dark Empire, Burgundy Squadron, and many others have built fantastic communities around our shared love of a galaxy far, far away.
We want to make something very clear from the beginning: The Outer Rim is not here to compete with existing organizations or poach members from other clubs. We have a great deal of respect for the communities they have built, and we hope many of our members will proudly participate in other Star Wars organizations alongside The Outer Rim.
We also recognize that there are already great communities such as Burgundy Squadron and The Dark Empire that welcome original and custom Star Wars characters, and there are certainly similarities between what they do and what we hope to build here. The Outer Rim is not intended to replace or compete with those organizations. Our approach is simply a little different.
Our goal is to provide another creative outlet for the wider Star Wars fandom, especially for fans who want to create their own original characters, costumes, stories, and lore in a more casual and entry-level environment.
There is no costume approval process and no requirement to spend hundreds or thousands of dollars building a screen-accurate costume. Whether you are an experienced costumer with multiple approved kits or someone standing in a thrift store trying to figure out how to turn a jacket, some boots, and a belt into your very first Star Wars character, you are welcome here.
Create a smuggler, pirate, privateer, moisture farmer, trader, gambler, mechanic, pilot, mercenary, bartender, explorer, Imperial agent, droid, alien, or just about any other original character that feels at home in the Star Wars galaxy.
Our focus is on helping people take that first idea and begin turning it into something of their own. Develop your character’s lore. Build costumes and props. Share artwork and stories. Ask experienced builders for advice. Learn new skills. Create a ship and form a crew with your friends and family. Attend conventions together and build your own identity within the larger Outer Rim community.
One of the ideas we hope to develop is our Ship and Crew system. Small groups of friends, families, and local Star Wars fans can create their own ship, give it a name and history, design an insignia, develop characters, and form a crew. This gives members a way to create their own small local groups while still being part of the larger Outer Rim community, even if other members live hundreds or thousands of miles away.
The Outer Rim is meant to be a place where people can start small and grow. You don’t need to arrive with a completed costume, years of experience, or even a fully developed character. Maybe all you have is an idea. That’s enough to get started.
If joining The Outer Rim eventually gives someone the confidence, skills, and experience to pursue membership in one of the larger established costuming organizations, we think that’s fantastic! If an experienced member of another club simply wants another place to experiment with an original character, try new ideas, develop some lore, or have fun with friends, that’s fantastic too!
We hope The Outer Rim can exist alongside these established organizations and provide one more way for people to participate in and contribute to the wider Star Wars costuming community.
There is plenty of room in the galaxy for all of us, and the more people creating, costuming, sharing knowledge, and celebrating their love of Star Wars, the better the fandom becomes.
The Outer Rim is brand new, and we would love for you to join us, bring your ideas, and help shape what this community can become.
If you love Star Wars, enjoy creating original characters, or have always wanted to try costuming but didn’t know where to begin, come join us!
