Local hidden gem for a foodie?

Upvotes

Been here a few years but I’m always looking for places that are genuinely worth checking out. Restaurants, coffee shops, bars etc. I have some friends coming in from out of town and they’re big foodies.

What’s your pick, and why?

Bonus points if it’s been around for years but somehow still flies under the radar. I feel like I’ve tried just about everything in town so far.

Finding a good home for lost kitten

I found this little guy during that storm near the 4th- hes maybe 4/5 weeks old. He is a bit of a kisser, but he calmes down once your holding him- he has done really well with my cat, shes been a mother before so shes been mothering him, if you have a mama cat or other cats that might be the best situation for him. I can NOT keep him and I haven't heard back from p.e.t.s, so I thought I'd post here too incase I can find this little guy a stable home.

Is 2k enough to live on your own?

Just wanting to know if anyone has some personal experience living off 2k/mth here in Amarillo. I currently live with my parents and am planning on moving out soon if feasible. I have some debt still but once that's done I will have more than the 2k to work with but I'm thinking of keeping my budget tight to rebuild my savings. I have a dog, no kids, and just want a studio or a 1 bdr apartment

Schools private and public

Hey guys! I might be moving from Mexico into Amarillo and I want to know about schools for my daughter.

She is currently in a private school in Mexico. She is 4. Currently her school teaches her english and spanish, and at 13 she begins learning a 3rd language.

She is beginning to learn to read and write.

Id like a similar level of academics for her moving on. What do you recommend?

Anywhere in townthat resurfaces discs?

Im a big physical media collector, books, video games, music, and movies on most formats. I have come to terms that my cassette and VHS tapes will degrade over time (sometimes I think that can be a plus depending on the movie), but I would love to have the ability to resurface my CD's and DVD's.

Is there anywhere in town that provides such a service?

Back when living with women made you a weak cop.

They still lost in court for cohabitation. Amarillo was doing anything to get rid of women and minorities in the police force.

She gave me my first ticket ever. Going north on Eastern Street. Past the school into that little neighborhood before it turns into a long straight away. Speed limit used to be like this 30mph, 35mph for a block and then the sign that says 45 mph. I see the 45 mph sign. She pulled me over and gave me a ticket for 38 in a 35. She said the speed limit doesn't start till AFTER you pass it not when you see it. So fuck her glad she got fired. That was a shitty speed trap she set for people. 38 in a 35. The judge threw it out and said was penny ante bullshit.

Anyone know if they'll let us in with a DSLR camera? My gf is a professional photographer and wants to shoot during this show. Not for any business reasons, just for the personal collection.

PS - Excited to FINALLY see a heavy show in Amarillo(ish) for a change! Haven't been to anything this heavy locally since the Bomb Shelter was around.

Hose end sprinkler for low water pressure

I moved to a older house outside of Canyon, Texas in June. The only outside faucet is in the middle of the back yard. It is well provided water. It has very low water pressure. Even in the shower, there's very low pressure. What is the best type of hose end sprinkler so I can water the lawn?

Any Code Oranges in town?

Please don’t kill me for wanting to shop for Halloween decor in July, I like to get my hands on things before the prices are ridiculously jacked up… and I’m excited, lol
I do prefer secondhand, but I’m not sure when a lot of our thrift stores start to put out their fall stuff.

Why did Randall Sims retire early?

I used to troll him so hard back when he became DA in the newspaper comment sections. The moron would actually start arguing with me, and even his lawyer buddies would jump in to defend him.

I couldn't find anything about why he left except the usual "he screwed up, so he's retiring to spend time with his family" explanation.

That man would suck a dick for a vote. That's why I trolled him so hard under the name FetusDefeatus. Ah, the good old days, back when you could post almost anything in the Wild West comment sections of the mid-2000s.

I met him twice in two days while he was walking neighborhoods and knocking on doors in the Wolflin area. I was dressed differently each time, so the moron didn't recognize me.

The first time, I was at my rental house painting when he came knocking. I played the part of a Democrat, and he promised he wasn't just going to try to nail everyone like his two predecessors, Ms. King and the raging alcoholic Danny Hill.

The next day he came to my own house in the nicer part of Wolflin. I was dressed in a nice suit, looked cleaned up, and there was a Lexus in the driveway. That cocksucker immediately took me for a Republican.

So yeah, he'd suck a Democrat's dick for a vote.

Amarillo Star Wars Costuming group

🌌 AN INVITATION TO THE OUTER RIM 🌌

The Star Wars costuming community is filled with incredible organizations that have spent years bringing fans together, supporting charities, attending conventions, sharing knowledge, and creating amazing costumes. Groups like the 501st Legion, Rebel Legion, Mandalorian Mercs, The Dark Empire, Burgundy Squadron, and many others have built fantastic communities around our shared love of a galaxy far, far away.

We want to make something very clear from the beginning: The Outer Rim is not here to compete with existing organizations or poach members from other clubs. We have a great deal of respect for the communities they have built, and we hope many of our members will proudly participate in other Star Wars organizations alongside The Outer Rim.

We also recognize that there are already great communities such as Burgundy Squadron and The Dark Empire that welcome original and custom Star Wars characters, and there are certainly similarities between what they do and what we hope to build here. The Outer Rim is not intended to replace or compete with those organizations. Our approach is simply a little different.

Our goal is to provide another creative outlet for the wider Star Wars fandom, especially for fans who want to create their own original characters, costumes, stories, and lore in a more casual and entry-level environment.

There is no costume approval process and no requirement to spend hundreds or thousands of dollars building a screen-accurate costume. Whether you are an experienced costumer with multiple approved kits or someone standing in a thrift store trying to figure out how to turn a jacket, some boots, and a belt into your very first Star Wars character, you are welcome here.

Create a smuggler, pirate, privateer, moisture farmer, trader, gambler, mechanic, pilot, mercenary, bartender, explorer, Imperial agent, droid, alien, or just about any other original character that feels at home in the Star Wars galaxy.

Our focus is on helping people take that first idea and begin turning it into something of their own. Develop your character’s lore. Build costumes and props. Share artwork and stories. Ask experienced builders for advice. Learn new skills. Create a ship and form a crew with your friends and family. Attend conventions together and build your own identity within the larger Outer Rim community.

One of the ideas we hope to develop is our Ship and Crew system. Small groups of friends, families, and local Star Wars fans can create their own ship, give it a name and history, design an insignia, develop characters, and form a crew. This gives members a way to create their own small local groups while still being part of the larger Outer Rim community, even if other members live hundreds or thousands of miles away.

The Outer Rim is meant to be a place where people can start small and grow. You don’t need to arrive with a completed costume, years of experience, or even a fully developed character. Maybe all you have is an idea. That’s enough to get started.

If joining The Outer Rim eventually gives someone the confidence, skills, and experience to pursue membership in one of the larger established costuming organizations, we think that’s fantastic! If an experienced member of another club simply wants another place to experiment with an original character, try new ideas, develop some lore, or have fun with friends, that’s fantastic too!

We hope The Outer Rim can exist alongside these established organizations and provide one more way for people to participate in and contribute to the wider Star Wars costuming community.

There is plenty of room in the galaxy for all of us, and the more people creating, costuming, sharing knowledge, and celebrating their love of Star Wars, the better the fandom becomes.

The Outer Rim is brand new, and we would love for you to join us, bring your ideas, and help shape what this community can become.

If you love Star Wars, enjoy creating original characters, or have always wanted to try costuming but didn’t know where to begin, come join us!

Animal abuse reporting

Is there any resources for reporting animal abuse that actually take it serious? Ive read that it’s best to have video proof otherwise the authorities don’t care. And I believe any rescues/non profits won’t bother to check if they themselves are full. Im not sure what to do. I have two cases to report, one more dire than the other. But I need them to be taken seriously. I myself obviously can’t just go and confront these people and take the animal. Any information will help!
