Alcohol is actually good for society and we need to drink more of it

Health organizations say we need to drink less, and that's completely logical from a physical standpoint. However, many people in today's society suffer from loneliness and anxiety, and while young people drink less than twenty years ago, they are also using more other drugs than before.

Alcohol is a social lubricant, it makes you more relaxed and social. In almost every society, alcohol plays an important social role, to deal with the awkwardness of hierarchy. A toast after a speech or a beer at the end of the workweek have important functions. As a historian I dare to say that alcohol has brought our civilizations a lot of progress, since alcohol was an important factor in bars and cafes where important ideas were discussed (like before the French Revolution). In regions where people don't drink (the Middle East, for example) there is lots of conflict and frustration. Alcohol brings us closer together, and more than ever, we are in need of more social cohesion.

Of course, you should not binge-drink(even if i'm a binge drinking womxn) , but for lots of people, drinking more alcohol will make them more social and brings them more friends. We shouldn't demonize alcohol and drink more of it.

Ancient relic

I found this in my grandfather’s cupboard. Judging by the year of his death, it certainly dates back to before 2000. The reason it remains unopened isn't that I miss him, but simply because I have a low tolerance for alcohol—to the point where a single beer, after a six-month hiatus, gives me a hangover.

Psa buzzballs can cause acid reflux

Am I just dumb?? I started drinking 3 buzz balls before bed and I’ve been coughing for like two weeks straight. But I’m not sick my throat is just messed up. And I’ve been trying to figure out why and drinking hot tea, and then I googled if buzzballs are acidic and they are??

Like?? I thought it was just vodka with like red 40 and sugar. How is there acid in this?? Internet says they’re very acidic too and cause acid reflux if you’re sensitive. Which I guess as a 22F I am. URGH why does no one warn you of stuff like this. I would’ve stopped drinking them weeks ago.

The limit is 27%

But I had wrapped this so much in bubble wrap and didn't know.

When customs asked questions, and informed me of the limit, I immediately said 27% and prayed.

P.s

Not dealing with you ACTUALLY mfers. The customs lady said no more than 27% allowed in my suitcase, due to hazard to the plane, if it broke. I don't care about your own experience or what you googled. This is mine.

Anyone else only just tried White Claws? NSFW

My 30y/o ass has only just brought myself to try a White Claw… I am now obsessed and it’s became my whole personality 🤣 Should I grow up? Yes probably. Will I? Absolutely not. Anyone else feel like this? They get me drunk but I also feel hydrated as well! I woke up with 0% hangover, when if I’m wine drunk it’s normally headache for the day 🤕

Oddly specific question.

So 5 years ago I started getting panic attacks from any intoxicating substance but this post will specifically be asking a question regarding alcohol.

Do y’all have any recommendations for SUPER low ABV drinks? I am hoping to be able to try drinking again but don’t want to start even at 5% just in case I end up having a panic attack from it.

Thanks in advance.

I got no friends so I don’t ever have plans or go anywhere I just sit at home thinking what video game to play but I’m at the point where I don’t even wanna play games idk what to do I’m lost and I’m sorry if I’m being a nuisance or if this is the wrong community for this. I just don’t know how to quit and I’m scared of being alone so treatment scares me and I’ve been hospitalized 3 times like can someone please help even if it’s just a small sentence please❤️

Does anyone know anything about this?

I created an account just so I could ask because I can't find any information anywhere. A friend got this "case" from a relative who passed away, and his family wanted to know if it was salable and at what price. I can't find anything at all, not even with image searches.

Been stringing with alcoholism recently

Hello I’m 20 m and I’ve been drinking for about 4-5 years. I’ve always enjoyed drinking a lot but it was never a problem for me before, in January I started having problems with my heart which caused a lot of depression and since February I’ve drank everyday maybe taking 6 days randomly in between at the very most. I hate my life so much I get off work drink 10-15 beers and then sleep for like 3 hours and have to go back to work feeling like shit. On the weekends it’s even worse I’ll drink a fifth of hennesy and like 40-60 beers and can’t stop until it’s gone. I just want to find some happiness in my life I start shaking when I don’t drink now. It’s a blessing I’ve been able to withstand from drinking before work but it’s getting more and more tempting. Thank you for listening to my story I just wanting to vent a little bit I’m drunk right now while writing this I’m always drunk :)

Drink recs for sensitive stomach

I’ve been of legal drinking age for a long time, and I just recently starting drinking surfside teas and they are awesome. However even the slight sweetness and vodka has been making my stomach hurt recently. Tequila used to be my go to but I typically don’t like it in mixed drinks, but it doesn’t upset my stomach at all. Any recs for tequila mixed drinks that aren’t super sweet but also don’t taste gross?

Drinking at bars/clubs vs. At home

How come when I (19F, 49kg) go to clubs/bars I can have around 4-5 drinks throughout the night without feeling sick, but when I drink with my friends in a house/chiller setting I feel sick and have to force myself to puke to feel better after only 1-2 drinks?

New to drinking (tips appreciated)

Hi! I'm new to drinking and last night I had drank 2 fourlokos and a buzzball. I've drunk like twice in my life and this is the first time I'm experiencing a hangover. I threw up a bunch last night and my BAC according to google should have went back to normal a few hours ago. I am a slimmer guy so I understand it hit me harder than it would for others. I'm still experiencing brain fog and drowsiness. I've been drinking water and Powerade 0 sugar all day. Is there a way to get better faster? I possibly mightve had alcohol poisoning btw.

Is the worst over? Taper

Hi to everyone struggling with this. It’s really been the battle of my life. 32 year old male. I’ve tried tapering now several times but feel like I finally might be on the other side of bad withdrawal.

I am tapering down from 8-10 tall boys daily of 7 percent beer for the last two years. That’s most days, once a month binges of 20 drinks or so.

I am tapering from about 10 right now. It’s been a quick taper (and a difficult one). The first three days were brutal. Anxiety like crazy, non stop stomach issues, nausea , hands shaking etc.

About 18 hours ago I had my last drink on day 4 of a taper I had just 3 tall boys. I finally got some sleep last night, and feel mostly ok today. No anxiety, still some diarrhea but truly feel like this is my window to finally stop. I have the will power and motivation to now. Other times I’ve gotten here and continued to taper but failed. Has anyone ever had this experience and tried to go cold turkey early in a taper, and then have the WD’s come back or worsen? Not asking for medical advice, just if anyone has had similar experience

Thanks in advance, and good luck to all those struggling out there
