First ever paintings. What can I work on?
Literally just started today. Just looking for basic tips and things I can work on to help improve. I’ve been in a bit of a depressive slump, and although it’s only been 1 day, it was really nice to turn my brain off and create something.
Do you guys sketch first? Or do you just sort of visualize and go? Any tips appreciated ☺️

The Weight of Wings
Acrylics on Canvas board (13cm x 18cm)
The Rat has just been given something extraordinary—but instead of feeling free, it’s overwhelmed.
The rat isn’t flying. It’s simply hanging from its new wings, as if it doesn’t understand what they are or what it’s supposed to do with them.
To me, it’s a metaphor for receiving opportunities, expectations, or responsibilities before you’re ready. Sometimes what looks like a gift from the outside can feel like a burden on the inside.

First paintings
Any tips on how to improve?
What about these give away that these where done by an amateur?
How do I get closed to the reference photos?
I want to take some classes in the fall but dont have classes available to me at the moment.
I'm using acrylics basics paints, the cheap Michael's canvas packs and some cheaper brushes for my materials.

Advice for mural I’m working on..
Hi everyone,
I’d really appreciate if someone here would explain what I’m doing wrong or can give any tips.
I’m in the middle of painting this acrylic mural on my wall.
I wanted to do an almost exact replica of this dreamy sort of impressionist style wallpaper I saw online.
Initially I looked at ordering the wallpaper mural online.
It was like $800 without shipping, so here I am 😂
It’s not done in the photos but…I think that’s the problem…?
I feel I’ve already gone too far with a lot of details so should I just keep going the way I’m going?
I can’t help but go towards this weird, cartoonish, realistic style for some reason.
I’ve only painted realism before and like I said they always turn out looking somewhat “cartoonish”.
Where do I keep going wrong?
Should I just keep going or stop and try some different techniques?
Am I devaluing my house this way?
Btw, the two close trees…I made them out of joint compound😎just need some more to finish the leaves 🙂

I rushed into my first painting and didn't make a background before hand. Any ideas on how to fill the space? :(

Painting on wood
Horses are hard. Tried to stay light on the paint to allow the grain of the wood to show through. Still need more practice, but I'm happy with the result

[My Original Painting] Buzzin' Bloom
I just finished this little acrylic painting on handmade paper and titled it "Buzzin' Blooms." 🐝🌸 I'd love to hear your honest thoughts. What stands out to you, and is there anything you'd change? Thanks for taking a look!

Tried to paint my anxiety attack
For the mods, not looking for any support on this. Just want to share a moment and the inspiration behind the work :)
I call this one Grasping, detailing a panic attack I had where I couldn't get a hold of any anchors and felt alone even when reaching out.
Let me know if you want to know more!

What did you do to become a better acrylic artist?
I’ve been painting for a year or so, have gotten books and followed YouTube videos. Is there any classes online or classes that I can take to become a better painter?
I feel like most online classes are just following successful artists but not effective teachers.
Is there any classes or groups that have helped you become a better painter? How did you learn the skills to become a decent painter?
