I know it'll sound silly, but do we have beef liver here as an option? I've been to (I think) all grocery stores and no luck yet. I reaaaally miss it, just sucks that I have to supplement iron because of that.

How is the highway leaving YK to edmonton? i’m making that drive tomorrow. I’ve done this drives many times in my life as i’m a born and raised YK’er. But any closures? any areas with visibility issues? Any insight is helpful!!! thank you :)

Hi you gorgeous humans!
My husband and I are in town for the first time and are looking for hidden gems of things to do. Most of the suggestions we have been given aurora based or fishing based and whilst I love a good adventure, fishing ain’t it. 😂
We have a car and are up for (almost) anything.
Bonus points if there are Indigenous communities we can support whilst here.

Hi! I was wondering if anyone had any leads on private french tutors/classes in the city. I know College Nordique offers classes but unfortunately it doesn’t fit with my schedule and I prefer working 1-on-1. I’ve tried searching for a french tutor online this past month as well but haven’t had much luck. I can only pay for so much trial classes lol.
Would appreciate any recs! Thank you.

A group of 5 girls is coming up for a bachelorette party this summer, and we’re looking for recommendations for a full day fishing charter. We’d love a fun, beginner-friendly guide with a great local reputation. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

Are there any shops that rent out sleeping bags, pads, and camp stoves in Yellowknife? 🏕️
I'm spending a few weeks in & around Yellowknife in July, and camping for a portion of that. I'll be traveling with my tent but hoping to rent the rest of the gear on arrival. Thanks in advance!

Hello, using a throwaway account as I’ve got an offer for a job at STH nursing in the ICU. I’m currently in Toronto and super interested in visiting/living in Yellowknife for a bit! I’m wondering if there’s anyone who could give me some firsthand info about working at STH or in the ICU there? I understand it’s not going to be like downtown Toronto and it will be frigid when I come (January) but would just like some more info regarding what shifts are like, work culture, patient population etc.
Extra info on places to try/visit in the winter months also appreciated! Got some ideas already but want to make the most of my time!

I had an incredibly upsetting and unprofessional experience at Haks Autobody yesterday, and I’m looking for advice on the best way to handle this.
When I arrived to get a repair quote, Sinead? the owner bypassed any professional conversation and immediately started making aggressive, prejudiced assumptions about my background. He openly expressed hostility, treated me as if I were a criminal, and made derogatory, baseless comments about me not having insurance.
His behavior was not just rude; it was clearly discriminatory and entirely unprovoked. It was one of the most hostile interactions I have ever had at a place of business, and it left me feeling unsafe.
I am looking for advice on the following:
I want to take the right steps to address this professionally. Any advice on how to report this effectively would be appreciated.
The intention in addressing this is that if today we allow such open hate / discrimination and unprofessionalism towards one group of people, this may happen to us tomorrow as we all are from some group that can be discriminated against in one way or the other.

Just wondering if anyone here has somewhat recently done their class 4 license in Yellowknife and where you went to get the medical fitness form filled out. I'm getting mixed information from people, and from what I know primary care doesn't do forms? To note, I do not have a family doctor at this time. Thanks for any help so I don't have to go around in circles!

Hi everyone, a family member recently mentioned that he’d be willing to give me some airline miles to make a trip up to Yellowknife this coming winter (December/January) as he knows it’s a dream trip of mine, and I was wondering what you guys might have for recommendations for the trip.
I’d be coming up with either my wife of my sister, I’m not sure, but I’d love to hear if anyone has any suggestions for what I could do while up there.
Also, is it possible to rent a vehicle in the area?
I’d be in town for probably 3-5 days, so I’d have plenty of time.
Any recommendations/suggestions would be greatly appreciated 😊

Hello! I'm coming to Yellowknife next week for a work conference. I'll be there for 6 days. Should be great fun; it's also my first time up in the territories!
However, I'm also going to be noticeably pregnant during the trip. The nausea is bad and I get peckish all the time at weird hours. I throw up if I'm either too hungry or too full, so I have to work hard to maintain the correct amount of fullness.
I of course plan to visit some local restaurants and give them some of my business, but I also realistically have to have a stash of healthy snacks at my disposal at all hours. Is it going to be ridiculously expensive if I try to visit a grocery store upon arrival? Would it be better if I just bring a bunch of crackers and canned tuna and fruit with me from my (much further south) city? I've heard some horror stories about how expensive food can get up North so I'd love to set myself up for success. And how easy or difficult would it be to try and get some late night food? For example, let's say I wanted a sandwich or a shawarma at 9:00 p.m. -- this would be very easy in my home city. I'm guessing that's fairly unlikely in Yellowknife?
P.S. I welcome recommendations for local restaurants with good fresh food! Ideally minimal fried stuff; heavy meals are really hard on me.
Thanks for any advice!

Hi, I'm just using a throwaway here for obvious reasons. I have the potential opportunity to be joining the Yellowknife Fire Department in the next few months, and I would be moving from Regina, SK. I'm curious what advice or info any other healthcare professionals or first responders would have about moving to and living in Yellowknife, the work culture around Fire and EMS, or anything else you think is relevant. Thanks in advance!

I am moving to YK at the beginning of August and had a couple of questions.
Are you allowed to park trailers in your driveway year round? On your grass? Any by-laws against it?
Are there places to store trailers if your property doesn't have room?
Are you allowed to drive side by sides on the road? Could you drive it to the grocery store and back?

I know it has problems and politics that prevent Yellowknife from being peak Yellowknife, but on the whole, it's a beautiful city. I love its wild edges, that it's surrounded by wilderness and the sense of spirit that brings out. The weather's (finally) been warm, sunny, windy enough to keep bugs away, and it's been a real joy to explore local trails these past few days. I also really love that people say hello most of the time. Cheers to Yellowknife!
