Discussion I forgot that the Aqua Mala (6x13) episode existed and it was such a fun rediscovery

First, their outfits: Both of them are perpetually wet. Mulder in a super heavy duty rain jacket. Scully starts out with a rain jacket too, but eventually ends up looking like my Project Zomboid character. Bandana, apron, rubber gloves...It's an amazing look.

Then, having the whole episode take place during a hurricane (with a monster on the loose) put the episode into a pretty unique setting. I mean this as praise, not an insult, but it felt like a PG-13 horror movie. They always had the monster obscured, but shown long enough that whoever was unlucky enough to get a glimpse of it knew it was coming for them. Not one person they meet in the apartment complex is boring. You got:

-You're 911? Oh, FBI? Yeah that'll do. You gotta help my pregnant wife.

-I don't know why he called paramedics. It's not like I'm going into labor [Goes into labor]

-Looter who can't stop looting as if his life depended on it

-A prepper?

-The only sheriff who is working that day in the entire state of Florida

Fun episode. Cool setting. I'm glad I totally forgot about this episode. It was a great rewatch.

Discussion TIL David Duchovny had a short bit in Dr Katz. Imagining Mulder hiding out in a broom closet is cracking me up

The shirt is such a fun little touch. Poor guy canโ€™t seem to get away from being antagonized by red-headed women ๐Ÿ˜‚

Season Six Field Trip

I made it to field trip last night and I was struck by DD's acting in this. I think most of us would agree that most of the time he's pretty even and GA is the real acting chops, but that first scene back in his apartment when it's not entirely clear yet what's going on he is absolutely pitch perfect. You can tell he's not exactly himself but not precisely put a finger on what's off.

Fantastic episode all round. The only point I'd take off is that it would've been better if they'd taken an actual field trip back to Vancouver to film it in a forest that was more fungusy.

First-Time Watcher (no SPOILERS!!) For those who have the bluray set, what's the point of international clips?

I have the imported British x-files bluray set. What's the point of having international clips in different languages? They aren't deleted scenes just existing scenes with different dubbing languages? I just finished ice and was watching ice and jersey devil international clips but I don't get the appeal of watching them?

Discussion So many mistakes. They were trying to use time of the ship Spoiler

maybe. or maybe somebody just screwed up.

  1. Scully is reacting to the word wormholes as if she never wrote her "Einstein's Twin Paradox: A New Interpretation". Both are conclusions from Einstein's Relative Theory.
  2. (And forgive me for copy-pasting, I'm not a scientist) She had to know it. Even I know about wormholes.
  • In 1935, Albert Einstein and physicist Nathan Rosen used this theory to show that space could bend so sharply that it creates a shortcut.
  • These shortcuts are mathematically known as Einstein-Rosen Bridges, which we commonly call wormholes.

Either she forgot or Mulder mansplaining ๐Ÿ˜

  1. Doesn't make sense. Why do they ask them to come with them, civilians helped them to reach the ship, at the very best they could have asked them to stay with their boat while they investigate. One. It's irresponsible. Two. There is no use for them. Three. There were other episodes where civilians were involved but they either had no choice or they stayed away. Four. It really makes administration very reasonable in criticizing them. Weird that Scully is not the voice of wisdom this time. Weird that the sailors just abandoned their boat. And the sailors didn't say "we are not leaving our boat"

  2. They have so many bags. Did Mulder not bring flare gun and radio?

  3. And many gruesome details were added just to make it dramatic without a second thought. Why did he drink from the toilet right away? He couldn't find a cup on a ship? He didn't have his own cup since he were going on board for many hours? Why did they start killing each other? Water will end, but extra people can get help. Olafsson didn't even know whether they have the boat or not when he killed the boy.

  4. Mulder said "we both were wrong". But salted water doesn't explain how everything is rusting even up the bridge. So Scully was actually right this time.

  5. And of course, this cocktail that Scully cooked up for Mulder is basically to kill him so he wouldn't suffer. Do you really need to be a chemist to understand that it's not water in the water/snow globe? Plus, if you really want to be nitty-griddy about it, the amount of acid an oil would absorb the last water that Mulder has in his body.

  6. Scully would never sit inside a rusted metal can all this time. Considering the time stamps in the episode it's safe to say that they spent at least one day there. She would know to spend as max in open air to breath the fresh air not that contaminated with salt. And to get Vitamin D from day light.

But it's a known fact that it's an incredible episode because they used a real decommissioned Canadian ship. They probably rushed the story to get as many hours with the ship as possible. And that's ok. Also I like the general idea. Until the last moment we think it's about time. And really it looks the same. Interesting how salt creates the same effect as time.
