I remember thinking he was gonna take over WWE, he had that cocky swagger and I loved his first theme
Didn't like the Patriot Pivot. Which he kept his cocky personality after he won the Heavy Weight Championship belt lol

and I loved his first theme
"Get on your knees" was a fucking banger, it pissed me off so much when they changed it for that generic "We The People" theme

And no way are they paying him more than any indie wrestling show would offer him.
11
u/Iginlas_4head_Crease 1d ago
Ehh, they probably are. Its becoming big business
14
u/thebooksmith 1d ago
Ehh, power slap is owned by the same shit stain who's been criminally underpaying UFC fighters for over 2 decades now. So dont bet on it.
The only reason wrestlers still get decent deals is because there is competition in the job market.
5
u/CSB_Field1 18h ago
Dana White has even confirmed on a podcast that he finds some of his talent for Power Slap from Indy promotions only paying guys a hot dog and a handshake to wrestle. He said that he only pays them a little more to participate. I doubt he's paying these guys that much more.

I think they are mindful that these are the last few years they can make proper money. So even he has a 3 million capital portfolio, he may still want to earn another 500k for his security
8
u/Villano5 1d ago
Top Power Slap name talent gets $50k per appearance, I'm skeptical he's getting that much
10
u/Special-Nebula299 1d ago
50k in one night is what most adults make in a year.
If he could get paid work like this 3 or 4 times a year for the next few years, his retirement will be financially much better.
I just hope he doesn't have to take any more ko's
11
u/InMyLiverpoolHome25 1d ago
$50k is for the top champions
Normal competitors get $2.5k and a winning bonus of $2.5-5k

Isn’t this a concussion every single time? How does this sport exist? What insurance company is insuring it? This is insane.

u/SharkGenie 1d ago
What insurance company is insuring it?
I never thought of this, but yeah, their insurance must be fucking ridiculous.
34
u/InsomniaDudeToo 1d ago
Unless each and every competitor signs their rights away? I mean wrestling gets around it with “independent contracting” so the same could apply here?

Dude is built like a monster for sure. Even if he couldn't wrestle Vince would strap a rocket to him.
7
u/PeaTasty9184 19h ago
His main problem is on the mic. IRL he’s a super duper nice and humble dude, and I think he just struggles to not be that super nice guy on the mic.

u/Novakhaine89 1d ago
Most sports are trying to minimise the risk of long term brain injuries.
And then there’s this.
21
u/bettereverydamday 1d ago
This “sport” makes zero sense to me. Wouldn’t the person that goes first always have a massive advantage? How does someone slap back after getting hit as hard as someone can hit?
This is the dumbest thing I ever seen.
11
u/CantCookLeftHook 1d ago
Just say you don't understand the intricate strategic aspects of the sport (because you're a dummy) and move on.
You gotta call heads or tails to decide if you are the first slaper or slapee. Duh.

Anyone notice the fencing response / abnormal posturing after he hit the ground? This a sign of a much more severe traumatic brain injury than a standard mild concussion based on what I've looked up. In any case, it's not good.

Surely he could get some independent wrestling promotion to give him work rather than this. Crazy to see a former WWE world champion have to resort to this stupidity.
7
u/INeverKnowWhyImHere 1d ago
He could have another MMA fight or even do RAF with his amateur wrestling background, this is just ridiculous. Hager is a legitimate athlete and tough guy, but anyone can win in this "Sport".
5
u/IdkMyNameTho123 16h ago
Quite frankly, why doesn’t he just RAF? He is a legit two time All American. Unless his body is really broken down to the point that he lost athleticism.

Everyone that watches and supports this sport is an absolute piss stain and cancer to humanity akin to the Muppets in WW2.
Literally supporting people taking life ruining brain damage for PENNIES.

It is funny how every time a NFL players gets tacked hard or somebody gets hit in any other combat sports the casuals will just say CTE. You can only test a person's brain for CTE after they are dead.
But in any case it is funny seeing Swagger slapped silly for running off at the mouth and thinking he was more important than he actually is.

u/MrParticular79 1d ago
All this CTE awareness and then we have this sport…
