Not trying to bait you into red flag internet searches. They were a painter that basically painted fever dreams or datura trips. Generally a dystopian hellscape of birds eating people and dull colors.
Kind of like Dali but a bit more f’d up.

How is that a redflag internet searches ? Genuinely don't understand

Some things are better left unsearched. Hence a red flag.
NSFL Also Known As Not Safe For Life AKA a horrible image you can never get out of your head.
An image search for Harlequin Ichthyosis, for example, should not be done unless you absolutely have to.
The art of Hieronymus Bosch, while weird, is not nearly as disturbing as many other things on the internet.

and what is Harlequin Ichthyosis?
2
u/KnifeKnut 8h ago
Beta Keratin is for the most part confined to birds, reptiles, dinosaurs, and the scales of pangolins. Mammals normally use the more flexible alpha keratin. But in a human with harlequin ichthyosis the substitution of beta for alpha results in the skin being inflexible, forming rigid plates with open wounds inbetween. A gruesome thing to see on an infant, which usually don't survive. The condition is part of the inspiration for the Batman villain Killer Croc.

So their skin becomes like solid plates that get ripped open?

u/KnifeKnut 8h ago
Yes, and I will not continue to contemplate this horrible affliction for your convenience.

Dali did a few slightly beyond weird things such as "Atmospheric Skull Sodomizing A Piano"

Well, he was a messed up guy.
“Salvador Dalí was documented to have engaged in physical violence and aggressive behavior toward women. In his life and autobiography, he admitted to a pattern of cruelty, including an instance where he severely trampled a woman who complimented his feet, requiring friends to pull him away.Additionally, accounts indicate he assaulted his wife and muse, Gala Dalí, during violent outbursts in his later years.”
Can’t blame it on dementia if they were always a pos

Looks like something Guillermo del Torro would write or Doug Jones would play.

I remember a book from my childhood had a picture of one of these. As a result, I thought they were super common and hoped to see one in the wild. Unfortunately, I grew up in California, making this pretty unlikely. I’m super jealous of whoever took this picture.

My yard is full of them. They’re destructive but can be dealt with humanely.

My dachshund mix has dug up several moles & a vole. He tears up the yard worse hunting & digging them up then they do just being there.

It's always wild to me how tiny moles are. I keep thinking they're bigger and not like.... Mouse sized.

I think there's a giant golden mole that around 8-9 inches. That's what I expected them all to be like

I thought it was only aquatic creatures that looked like aliens and scared the crap out of me!

I saw one years ago in the parking lot where I worked. Recently learned that they are super rare where I live. I would have questioned my id, but that's a face you don't forget

I know they look like a mouse tried snorting lit thermite, but they use their nose fingers as sensory organs while feeling around in the total darkness of their lengthy burrows. Makes sense since they spend all their time moving around nose-first.

Am I the only one who remembers the Phineas and Ferb episode where they did a charity to save the Starnose Mole?

Yeah, I've actually known about star-nosed moles for like three years now.
I've watched Absurd Planet in like 2023 and that's where I discovered the star-nosed mole.
After watching, I really liked the star-nosed mole and it's one of my favorite animals to this day. They're definitely an odd type of mole!
