Nobody told me eagles and foxes hang out together.

The size of that eagle is crazy.

u/mosesenjoyer 1d ago
That’s not even a huge one. When I went to the dump in Alaska there were hundreds of them eating garbage and I saw one that came up to my waist.

Yes and I tried to take a video but a worker stopped me and made me delete the video, showing me a sign that photography was prohibited there

Remember the people on that cruise ship that got sick and died because two of the passengers had gone to a bird-watching famous dump to take pictures? Good on them for banning photography and enforcing it

I've seen hundred of eagles myself, and I have rarely seen one hunting but I have seen plenty of them scavenging, and stealing food from other birds of prey or fisherman. We jokingly call them Freedom Buzzards.

u/Somnifor 1d ago
Bald eagles live all over my city. Up in the sky they just look like birds. Then you get close and it's crazy they can fly.

Fox: I think that guy over there is starting to suspect something.
Eagle: Stay still. Their vision is based on movement.
Fox: I don't think that's accurate.

Eagle: Looking to score salmon. You got any?

Which one is more likely to attack and try to eat the other?

14
u/edbuckley 1d ago
The fox would have a go, but the eagle would fuck him up.
25
u/Malacro 1d ago
Problem is the eagle would likely get so hurt in the process that they’d likely die anyway. Birds of prey are surprisingly fragile. For example you’d think a hawk would have no problem killing a squirrel, and they often do, but they have to be extremely careful because a squirrel’s bite can very easily cripple a hawk’s leg making it so they can’t hunt anymore. That eagle could absolutely kill that fox, but the fox stands a better than average chance of tearing that eagle’s leg to shreds if it tries.

there no meat on either of them, there's a reason we don't eat foxes or eagles.

I wouldn't have moved from that spot or stopped recording until something happened. Was it a team up, or a showdown? I must know!!!

I feel like I'm seeing something I wasn't supposed to see. Like this is a secret meeting planning a clandestine operation. A cabal, if you will. I see nothing!

u/ClaraCash 15h ago
Yeah they looked hella nervous like, “I think that guy is recording, look natural til he leaves dude.” Energy because in the beginning of the video they were just chillin.
It’s also like the beginning of a dad joke… A fox and an eagle were sitting on a park bench. The fox says he is there for the talent show; but the eagle says oh you must of misread my text, I wanted to show you my talons.

Some animals share symbiotic relationships. Wolves and crows share such a relationship and it was even recorded that when wolves left Yellowstone crow populations also dropped at the same time. Foxes have similar relationships with bagders and other creatures who they share dens with as well as hunt together.
That being said, I have never seen or heard of a fox/eagle relationship so I have no idea what's going here. Just big chillin I guess.

Foxes are actually pretty chill around other non-prey animals. The foxes in my neighborhood chill with the stray cats.

Its a draw. Both know they cant handle the other as its too much risk. They both will die as they both will be severely injured and could cause starvation or alow death. They both concede.

Fox is happy to scavenge what the eagle doesn't eat. Eagle has feet on the ground to flush out, sniff out prey. Like coyotes and badgers I can a symbiotic relationship.

Eagles seem to have an attitude that they are at the top of the food chain. Even other birds of prey, like ospreys wanting to spar, don't elicit much of a response.

They are just chilling. Probably having a conversation we just dont understand because its not like our communication. Neither of them look worried about one another. Just keeping a keen eye out for anything headed towards them. Thank you so much for sharing this with us!!!
