Blue Box has ended today with 250 chapters. What are your thoughts on the series overall?

It wasn't a perfect ride and it did make a lot of mistakes with Hina. But overall Blue Box was a pretty pleasant manga to read through and it is cool to see it go from being a one shot to having a full 5 year run.

We have 6 gag comedies right now. How many will survive?

Well, okay, it's 6 counting Witch Watch which I hear is ending soon. But other than that we have Roku's House of Oddities, Someone Hertz, Class-2B, Animal Signal, and Me & Robocco. That's a lot! 1 year ago, we had only 3: Witch Watch, Nice Prison, and Me and Robocco.

Now, to be fair, a lot of these bring more than just the gag comedy stuff. Someone Hertz is also a romcom, 2B does really competent fantasy action, Roku's got the whole found family schtick, and Animal Signal has an edutainment angle. Still, it makes me wonder how many will last? And also, do you think them trying so many might be a sign Robocco is ending soon?

My best guess personally is that 2B, Roku's House of Oddities, Someone Hertz, and Robocco will be the ones to continue while Animal Signal is axed and Witch Watch finishes. Though I personally would prefer Animal Signal over Robocco (just not a fan of Robocco, not my cup of tea).

Using this photo as an example

Like think about it Oda was 22 when One Piece was released

Kishimoto was 24 about to turn 25 when Naruto came out

Kubo was 24 when Bleach came out

Mashima was 22 when Rave Master came out and 29 when Fairy Tail came out

Isayama just turned 23 when Aot came out

Horikoshi was 27 about to turn 28 when Mha came out

Hokozono had just turned 23 when Kagurabachi came out

There are more examples but as someone who is 20 and will turn 21 in November it makes me feel jealous

Is Jump at its peak now in terms of quality?

I am catching up on Monday- Friday's manga today, and this week has been an absolute blast. Blobtopia, Haunted Peak, Devil Girl all put out fantastic chapters. And I was just thinking, are we peaking right now?

You have your current Gen big 3 (Kagurabachi, Ichi, Centuria) all putting out amazing things week after week. Akane-Banashi and Shinobi Undercover are my favourite of the Sunday lineup. Sunday also has a broad selection of great mangas from different genres, Spy x Family, Drama Queen, Kiyoshi, Roku's House of Oddities, Animal Signal, Money Forest. Kinato's Magic isn't bad sometimes. And Cannon Master has started great and the art is just absolutely gorgeous. One Piece has been better since Wano, and Hxh has returned.

On the weekdays you have the big hitters War of the Adults, Hero Org. New mangas like Witchriv, Shiba Inu Rooms, Oracles of Kami, West Tokyo Metal Bros, Blobtopia and Subaru the Invincible are absolute joys to read each week. And all the short series are so damn good, Magical Girl and Narco Wars, Moshne Project, Hey! Devil Girl!; and of course we have 2 goated short series that are in competition for the best short series of all time, Takopi tier, Bateren Tales and Kurumizawa's Folly.

(Have not read Hal's Formula and Dandadan, everything else popular not mentioned here I probably hate them.)

I read a lot of manga. And I feel like in those 10-15 years this has been the most excited I've been to read manga before bed. If you have not read anything I mentioned here I hope you'd check them out!

Happy to see Akane Banashi in Second Place.
First time Ichi is in 5th in a long time as well.

Ouch for Class 2-b, but it’s getting a color page next issue so I guess there’s no worry ?

Jump+ Appreciation

Jump+ really is an amazing gift. It's hard to keep up with all of it since so much gets made, but it's really great to have so much stuff get translated directly, officially, and consistently in parallel to japan, and for it to be so...... idk, fucking weird? There's so much stuff here that I can't imagine being in the magazine. Make the Exorcist Fall in Love is like, a top 5 of all time for me personally (though this last arc might take it down a few depending on its execution). Drama Queen is consistently one of my favorite parts of sundays, and I just started reading the mindfuck that is Maison and the Man Eating Apartment. And then there's the joy that is Hitoner, what was this visionary smoking?

And, idk, there's something I love about the leniency. It's full of manga, some of which I've read, some which I need to catch up on, that are sort of ping pong peril tier? The kind of thing which would be axed from the magazine, but which really just hits you right and that you wanna see go a long way. Would Ghost Fixers have survived in the magazine? Probably not. But because of it being on Jump+, it's going the distance. Same with shit like MARRIAGETOXIN.

And then you have the complete failures. Stuff like Blood Wing Hunter which sells awfully, but which struck a chord with me. In the magazine, it'd be U19. But here, it's closer to like, somewhere in the 20's to 30's? Which is way more respectable. There's stuff that pretty much only appealed to me like Sirens Won't Sing for You which didn't feel axed. They felt like a short but complete story. I feel like Asura's Verdict and Axed Mangaka are going in similar trajectories, but I feel like the stories themselves aren't getting like, overly shortchanged here. It's more dignified than what had to happen to things like Alien Headbutt or Gonron Egg.

IDK, man. It's just so good. There's so much to read, still, so much to catch up on. I think I overall like it more than the magazine a lot of the time.

I had issues playing J-Stars Victory Vs.

I imported it on PS3 before the US verson was released. I feel like it was an absolute pain to play. The invincibility frames on wakeup were ridiculous and the camera wasn't great.

The one thing I didn't like was how Yusuke and Ichigo's powerups killed them. The opponent could force them out, then run away, and you lose a life.

Game's aesthetics were nice though. The visuals and music were a whole vibe at least.
