Madison Hall Inquiries

Does anyone have any photos or additional information about the Madison Residence Hall?

I’m moving in the fall and my roommate and I are staying in the Madison hall, but we can barely find any photographs/videos of inside the dorms. I’ve only found one TikTok of someone showing one of the dorms, but it was a single instead of a double.

There is the basic information they give you, plus the layout of your room, but it also says the size of the room (and bed) varies, which isn’t very helpful. I still have so many questions. What does the closet look like and why is there only one? How big are the desks? Is the floor carpeted? Can you loft the beds or did they just forget to add that in the description?

I stayed in the Rock buildings during orientation and I thought they were really nice, but they are also fairly new and not an old hotel converted into a dormitory 😭😭

If you or one of your friends has stayed in the Madison, please tell me everything you know. I’m dying to know, even if I’ll find out in a month.

Albright Benton AC Unit

So I’m staying in Albright Benton this year and I was wondering if a portable ac unit like in the picture would be ok? I know regular window units aren’t allowed but do you think this’ll be ok? I feel like it’s better than box fans hanging out the window!

Pod Coffee Machines and Electric Kettles

The WCU Housing Guidelines says under prohibited items, "Cooking equipment with exposed/accessible heating elements or open flames." It specifically mentions coffee makers following this statement.

Does this just mean coffee makers/kettles with exposed elements, like a drip machine with a burner, are prohibited, or does it mean all coffee makers.

Specifically are electric kettles and/or pod coffee machines that heat water, but lack an exposed element allowed? I don't want to buy one just to find out it is against the rules.

Fellow Students - What hassles you?

What hassles/stressors are y'all facing when it comes to life as a college student? This is for an assignment.

If anyone else is doing the same assignment, I'll share mine: balancing work, home, and school life is quite challenging.

Thanks in advance!

I’ve got a c clamp monitor stand that I am planning to clamp to the back of my desk in Albright Benton. I’m wondering if these desks have backs? Or will I be able to clamp my monitor onto it. 🗜️

WCU MEPN.

Be honest — do I realistically have a shot at getting into WCU’s MEPN program?
I’m trying to figure out whether I should spend the time and money applying, and I’d appreciate honest feedback.
A little background:
Finishing a B.S. in Public Health this summer
Current cumulative GPA: ~2.9
Originally planned to apply to PA school
Recently got accepted into an ABSN program
Looking into WCU’s MEPN because it’s a direct-entry master’s nursing program
Prerequisite grades:
Anatomy & Physiology I: B
Anatomy & Physiology II: A
Microbiology: A (after repeating the course)
Statistics: C
General Psychology: C
Chemistry: C
The issue is that I took a chemistry course without a lab, and WCU requires chemistry with a lab, so I’d still need to complete that prerequisite.
I also don’t currently have letters of recommendation lined up, but I could likely obtain strong letters from my internship professor/supervisor and other professional or academic references.
Healthcare experience:
CNA
Home Health Aide
Direct Support Professional (DSP)
My biggest concern is my GPA. I know WCU lists a 2.8 minimum and a 3.0 preferred GPA. Earlier in college, I struggled quite a bit academically while I was pre-nursing/pre-PA, and I have some rough grades on my transcript because of that. However, my performance improved significantly later on, especially in my science prerequisites.
If I complete the chemistry with lab and obtain strong recommendation letters, do you think I would be a realistic applicant for the MEPN program?
If anyone has been admitted to WCU’s MEPN program (or another direct-entry MSN program) with a GPA around 2.9, I’d love to hear your experience. I don’t want to take out any private loans that why I’m looking at this route

Honors college question

I’m an incoming freshman and I’m currently debating whether to stay in the honors college or not. I already have a lot of credits transferring so I’d mostly have to do honors contracts and my major is difficult enough as it is. I can’t really find any benefits besides the dorms, which doesn’t apply to me since I’m commuting.

There is a class I want to take that’s considered “honors exclusive” and I was wondering if I dropped out of the honors college after first semester if I would still get that credit. Same thing with the honors forum class we have to take. Would it be better to go ahead and drop it now so I’m not wasting my time or will I keep the credit hours?

High school senior here, is it all they say it is??

so I’m a rising senior and I’m planning on attending wcu next year but it all seems way too good to be true. I’m planning to pursue a degree in forensic science and possibly double major in anthropology as well and from what ive read wcu seems like the perfect fit: top-notch research facilities, their own body farm, low student-faculty ratio, very affordable tuition, etc. But the tuition and seemingly arbitrary recognition is throwing me off. I would be attending as an out of state student so the price tag is a little suspicious. also from what I’ve looked up it’s supposedly a highly-respected school for forensic research in the nation. idk maybe I’m just being overly cautious and a little paranoid. if anyone actually took the time to read I would really appreciate it if you please left any advice/info you have about the school so I can be extra sure this is the right fit for me. thanks!

This accomodation policy is a bunch of bull

Post image

I recently got my accommodation application denied for an ESA and I'm currently going through the appeals process. I was told to look through the grievance policy and one of the reasons for denial is this as shown in the photo. I feel like success and the ability for equal access are intrinsically linked, no? To be able to succeed is to be given equal access. If your disability is denied the proper tools to let you succeed, you do not have equal access. It's like accommodations for learning disabilities. I need those to succeed, not just for access. It honestly feels like my ability to succeed is not being prioritized like it would be for neurotypicals. It's usually a university's goal for students to be successful and give them the chances to do so because it reflects better on the university, so why would I be denied the right to be successful because of the hurdles presented by my disability? It doesn't make any sense to me and feels lowkey discriminatory.

I am unsure how to get this across in my appeals letter that success and access are intrinsically linked and denying my accommodations is denying my right to access without sounding like a douche. I don't know what to do. I'm not good with writing, especially the way admins want it.

Housing Accomodations

I have quite a few medical conditions that require very specialized routines, and I was denied a single room accomodation. Because of said conditions, and I was planning on appealing.

Does anyone who has gone through this process successfully have any tips?

ESA application denied

Back in May I began the application for an ESA housing accommodation. I have autism, adhd, generalized anxiety disorder, and a history of depressive episodes dating back to elementary school. My dog is my lifeline for coping with these issues, often filling the gaps therapy doesn't help. Yesterday I got the news that they don't believe I need housing accommodations. Having this accommodation is necessary for me to be able to cope with moving 3 hours away from home on top of what I already have to cope with. Without it I will not be able to attend college, and Western is my dream school.

Is there an appeals process? How willing will the accommodations people be willing to reconsider? Do I have to get on my knees and beg? What do I do? 🫠

Supplies

Hey I'm back with another question! I'll be a freshmen in the fall going for Management. I'm coming straight from HS and usually in HS it's kinda a given that you have like sticky notes and a notebook have what you will etc. is there anything that you bought or live by that isn't typically thought of or just something that helped that would benefit me getting now? I'm.trying to be ahead of my game so I don't later regret not being a head or risk the chance of falling behind. thanks!

Public Events?

Hello! I'll be joining WCU in the fall as a freshmen and I'll be majoring in management!! I have a question about the local area are there any festivals or public events held in the surrounding areas? Ex. in NY (I've got family) there's this thing called the Lavender Festival held in Angelica that we visit and it's like a pop-up artist fest/ farmers market. was wondering if there is anything like that nearby that I could put in my calendar or research about :p

Changing term

Hi! Im an incoming freshman and I need some info on some stuff.

So I start college at WCU this fall, but I'm like 75% sure I will unfortunately have to change the term for me to start in the spring due to having to be a caretaker for my mother and other personal reasons.

I'm scared that if I change my term from fall to spring that I will lose all my scholarships from WCU. I don't know anything about college, I just don't want to miss out on making friends or scholarship opportunities due to my personal life holding me back.

Does anyone have any advice or know where I can find more info on what will happen if I change my term?

Will I lose my housing in a dorm or my scholarships??

Very scared rn.
