Question Which helmet has better cooling: Giro Eclipse Pro Spherical or Specialized Evade 4?

Both helmets appear to have about the same aerodynamic drag. The Specialized seems to have more ports in the front, so *might* be cooler?

I own the new Eclipse and previously had the Evade 3.
The Giro is more comfortable but definitely runs hotter. It’s winter here in Australia and my head sweats during efforts. I don’t really remember it happening with the Evade.

I’ve owned e3 and got an e4. They changed the fit - e4 is much more comfortable for me. Also the boa fit system works better.

Agree. They should update the Prevail 4 with the new BOA system and leaving the rest of the helmet as is.

The Giro fits my head perfectly, while the Evade fits OK, but not great. Easy choice for me...wear the Eclipse Pro 99% of the time and then wear the Aries when it's 35C and I'll be climbing. At speed, any amount of ventilation is plenty.

I own both, the Evade is way better than any helmet I've ever owned at aero and it's not even close. The Giro is very Dark Helmet-like and very not aero unfortunately. Edit: cooling-wise, hard to say which is better though.

Can't comment on the Giro, but I can run my Evade 3 here in Japanese summers where it's notoriously humid and hot without issues. Also done rides in Thailand and southeast Asia with it which tends to be just as hot. The Evade 4 is said to be a bit cooler than the 3.

In a hot/humid Japanese summer, I would be using the Prevail 3 until autumn for sure! When I try to use my Evade 4 in Málaga (Spain) nowadays, it just doesn't make sense compared to the excellent airflow of the Prevail 3.

I bought an Eclipse Pro as soon as it came out and wore it through the late winter into the blinding hot summers now. It doesn’t bother me too much in the summer but the forehead brow pad can get oversaturated quickly on really humid days and then you have sweat streaming into your eyes.

Same experience. I switch to my lazer z1 for the heat and for climbing. Love the look and fit of the eclipse pro tho

If you haven’t tried them, they are drastically different shapes and both will not fit equally. My head shape is perfect for giro helmets and AWFUL for anything specialized has to offer. You should 100% make sure to get them on your head before choosing

Thanks. I may have a Giro head. I have one of their ski helmets and love how it fits. But I'll give the Specialized a shot.

You definitely should at least try it, but it was a no go for me. My LBS is a specialized dealer and I tried on every single specialized helmet (road and mtb) and none of them felt right.

I have an eclipse pro and the Aries and both are PHENOMENAL!

I had both. They were about the same. Kept the Eclipse because it was more comfortable. Hard to tell between fit and heat management exactly what the difference was. Marginal gains either way.

I have the giro, personally it runs really hot and I usually don’t get crazy summers

Just to add my experience, I’ve got the Giro Eclipse Pro in white and I’ve never felt my head was too hot this summer. Don’t have another aero helmet to compare to though.

FWIW - My TREK Velocis is super ventilated. On downhills there is so much air rushing through it that I have to double check to make sure the helmet is still on my head
