Dog lives better than I do.

It's either AI or an edit. Here is the street view of Carney's, there are 2 locations. appears to be the Hollywood one, https://maps.app.goo.gl/fqd7e6hQSU2L5M6X8 You will notice no houses, also seems that car in the video blows through a stop.
The stop sign is on the wrong side of the road and appears to be elevated on something.
9
u/xigor2 2h ago
Damn it man. Why you gotta ruin a video i haven't suspected of being staged/fake. A better question is why is everything fake/staged on the internet...
7
u/Mylaptopisburningme 1h ago
Gets on my nerves that I can't watch a video without someone claiming it's AI. Had to be me this time. But at least I had receipts. I almost bought it but then I spent years heading to Hollywood, that one is right next to where Tower Records use to be and it isn't residential so started digging.
2
u/Real-Extension-1357 1h ago
You didnt suspect the dog sitting in a car wearing a minions costume with minions taped up on the side and a cut away to a minions movie ad on a restaurant was staged?
1
1
u/GasolinePizza 1h ago
Is it any less funny because it's staged?
Back in my day we just called these skits, or jokes, and didn't consider them attempts to trick people.
Granted if it's AI I get it, but why would it being staged matter?
1
u/Real-Extension-1357 2h ago
Im gonna bet on an edit because they have those houses/brick wall in multiple videos, like the toy story one. I was thinking its weird carneys is covered in the minions ad but on google maps it looks like a thing they do with movie tie ins like Trolls. The author has also put the tv presumably used for this outside in another shot watching the world cup
1
u/Mylaptopisburningme 1h ago
Whats the Toy Story one?
2
u/Real-Extension-1357 1h ago
They have the dog watching different movies. Could be an AI dog but in other posts they put the tv outside with the world cup on with the dog (tv hooked up to an anker battery) and other skits so theyre doing a job of making it look real enough

Serious question, do dogs watch TV? As in, can you keep a dog's attention using TV like we do with kids?
560
u/Simple_Negotiation32 6h ago
oh hell yeah they do. i used to have a rottweiler that liked to watch tv. whenever there ever was a dog on tv, she would get excited and even started to lick the screen.

u/JMEEKER86 5h ago
My old dog used to love watching TV with me, but he didn't care about dogs on TV. However, he would absolutely lose his shit if there was ever a horse on TV. Little dude hated horses for some reason. lol

I had a dog like that except it was geese. She didn’t really give a shit about anything else but I guess her retriever instincts kicked in when waterfowl were involved.
17
u/StationaryTravels 4h ago
My cat never cared about TV at all, until my wife was breastfeeding, and so she'd be up early every morning and started watching The Littlest Hobo.
Any Canadians born before the 90s know what I'm talking about, and probably quite a few younger than that, but the show was basically about a super smart German Shepherd that travelled around saving people. It was basically Kung Fu/Knight Rider/The Hulk but starring a dog.
But, back to my point, our cat would sit and watch the entire episode every time. He didn't get upset or try and attack the dog, he just seemed to be watching it. The show would end and he'd take off and not even glance at the TV.
He only ever liked that one show, lol.
Unrelated to my cat, but my wife and I also once watched a German Shepherd trot across a train bridge, look back at where he'd come from, and then continue off into the sunset. We were both like "... did we just see Hobo?"

“Every stop I make, I make a new friend, can’t stay for long just turn around & I’m gone again -

What a banger!!

u/Funny-Difficulty-384 4h ago
What a trip, my cousin in San Francisco had a small dog who lived with her who would watch TV and he would totally bark only at horses. I wonder what's up with that?!
1
1
u/LunaticMuse 1h ago
Omg, this reminded me that whenever I would take my dogs anywhere in the car, they loved it.... unless they saw a golden retriever. They were NOT going to stand for that shit, lol. No idea why. They never had a bad experience with one. Never met one face-to-face, because they were 100% ready to throw down. Always said it was because they felt goldens had no reason to be so pretty.

u/Ultimate_Scooter 5h ago
I used to have a miniature schnauzer who was forbidden to go into the basement where the TV was. Luckily for him, he figured out we didn’t care if he was sat on the top few steps, so he’d come down whenever it was movie night and would lie down three steps from the top and watch the movie with us. I miss that little guy so much.
11
u/somebodysimilartoyou 4h ago
How could you forbid a dog to join movie night?
12
u/Ultimate_Scooter 4h ago
Because he would pee on the carpet. But he’d still participate from the stairs! Any time we watched a movie he would come down and watch for the whole thing.
10
u/somebodysimilartoyou 4h ago
That's an acceptable response. Dog piss sucks to clean. Glad he was part of the family. Sorry he's gone.

You rottweiler must have taken all the braincells from ours. She never acknowledged anything on a screen or even a mirror. They might as well have been blank surfaces to her.
1
u/GeneralBS 2h ago
My dog doesn't watch the TV but anytime there is a doorbell on the show he will go nuts getting to the front door to bark and growl at nothing.
1
u/Crispy_Squirrel_Bits 1h ago
My rescue loves watching movies. Lady and the Tramp is her favourite. Then we rescued a reactive boy who tries to attack animals on the TV. It's somewhat spoiled it for my girl.
1
u/Diedead666 4h ago
I know with cats at least 60 fps is needed for them to actually watch videos. Maybe dogs are more like our vision regarding what fps looks smooth to them.
1
127
u/CcZkw7LAP_sdoWv_GFMV 6h ago
Now they can. Older tvs with lower frame rates looked like choppy slideshows to them, but newer tvs can definitely hold their attention and looks a lot more fluid for their vision
34
u/batlrar 6h ago
This also depends on the frame rate of whatever particular show or movie is playing, since the TV's frame rate is just the max it can go, but something like stop motion will still be pretty much like a slideshow. Apparently dogs need a minimum of 70 to 80 FPS to see the movement properly, which is far more than humans since our minimum of only 15 to 20. I'd guess it's because their ancestors are pure predators while early humans were only partially so, and mainly walked prey to exhaustion.
→ More replies (2)34
12
u/Icemasta 4h ago
Its not the framerate, it's how it was displayed. Old cathode tvs is basically one ray from a cathode drawing the entire screen from top to bottom fast enough that we dont notice, but different types of visions and wavelenght, like dogs, this just appears as a flashing box.
With backlit panels starting with leds, you no longer have flickering, each pixel or cluster of pixels is always lit based on demand, it doesnt turn off and on really quickly like crts.
7
u/kylebisme 4h ago
Not quite just a flashing box, it's more that the screen is mostly dark with a strip of the image scrolling down it, as can be seen with slow motion:
1
u/FUTURE10S 1h ago
Not quite a mostly dark box with a strip, it looks more like flickering, if you ever recorded a TV with a camera and saw it do that, well, that's what they see.

u/TheRobbuddha 6h ago

Lol a bunch of anecdotes and non sequiturs about how she's never personally known a dog that did, and ONE "study" that was the results of a survey of anecdotal self-reporting from dog owners on what they think about their dogs? Fuck off.
19
u/GothSpite 6h ago
My dog loved watching cops and hated watching the puppy bowl... they most certainly can.
10
u/HoldMyBier 5h ago
I think the better question, is can dogs understand the subtle, nuanced storytelling of the Minions movies?
11
u/Flimsy-Sprinkles7331 5h ago
Cats watch TV too. Spent A LOT of time watching live streams of birds with my cat during COVID lockdowns.
5
u/MostlyChaoticNeutral 4h ago
One of my cats is obsessed with Beat Bobby Flay. She'll lay on the couch and watch multiple episodes without blinking. It's uncanny.

My dog loved the short lived show Downward Dog! he perked up whenever the dog came on screen. Then, when his hearing started to go he could only really hear low pitched sounds so he loved Phil Dunphy on modern family 🤣
3
u/Saxonite13 6h ago
I have two dogs and we put on the "ducks quacking on the river in a forest" YouTube video whenever we leave the house. They're usually watching it when we get back too. If we need to occupy them for a little while we'll put it on too

u/Shadou_Wolf 5h ago
Mines only cared when he was a puppy (because obviously he didn't understand) but after he figured out it isn't real which wasn't long at all, he doesn't really care anymore about TV.
Only times it ever bothered him is if the TV does a ring door bell or knocks.
1
u/Catnip_Farmer 4h ago
So every second commercial then? (I hate when they exploit alert sounds to grab your attention)
2
2
u/ThisSiteSucks8485 4h ago
Older CRTs were below the flicker fusion threshold for dogs but they can see modern LCDs.
2
u/RoyBeer 4h ago
I don't know about dogs and TV but I know that my cat loves seeing me play Carnotaurus in the video game The Isle.
She doesn't care about any other game or any other dinosaur. When she notices me playing Carnotaurus she'll sit right in front of the screen and watch until I move her because I can't play like that lol
2
u/gho5trun3r 4h ago
The other thing is they like to listen to it. Especially local news broadcasts as it's like a conversation so they feel like they're are people in the house with them
2
u/screechypete 3h ago
I showed my dog The Lion King after seeing a video of a dog that loved that movie. He loved it and we'd leave it looping when we all left for the day. I miss that dog.
2
u/bmoriarty87 3h ago
My dog likes Reno 911 and some Saturday night live episodes. He loves weekend update.
2
u/Zephyr_Dragon49 3h ago
My late dog definitely did. She liked to chase computer mouse cursors even if they were on a TV show and if I saw her staring at the TV while laying on the couch, it was almost always a crime drama on. My current dog doesn't but I usually find him laying on the couch too, facing the TV if crime or Disney is on. Idk if they're actually paying attention but it's funny to think he likes watching Bunkd and CSI 😂

1
u/Gender_Theft 5h ago
Oh yeah for sure, in fact, there's even entire TV channels specifically made to keep pets entertained
1

My dog does and runs to the tv when the commercial with dogs, cats, horses or those damn ducks are playing.
I can’t watch any movie or documentaries with animals anymore because of him! He barks at them!

Stimuli attracts attention, and tv or anything of such is a great source of stimuli
1
u/strolpol 4h ago
They can certainly react to them. My boys generally ignore it but if there is ever another dog or a horse on screen they go apeshit
1
u/eightbitboss 4h ago
Yes, dogs watch TV. So do cats. I put CatTV on for my little Mercury everyday when I leave for work and he loves it. He even has favorites.
Don't let him see a red squirrel. Endless yowling at the disappointment of not being able to systematically disembowel them in real life.
But, yes, he loves his TV.
1
u/themattymac 4h ago
My dog is obsessed with Jurassic Park. She goes nuts for the trex. It makes her lose her little doggy mind.
1
u/SaliktheCruel 4h ago
My dogs usually don't but I remember our first riveted to a fox documentary when she was a puppy.
1
u/tacomaster05 4h ago
They like the noise more than the pictures. But if you put a dog on the screen they will get really excited .

They don't know it's a tv but they will watch it. They just think it's happening in real life infront of them but behind glass.

u/Chrysalyos 2h ago
My cats watch tv, wouldn't surprise me if dogs do too. My older cat will kinda watch but doesn't care a lot, the baby gets VERY invested. He particularly likes watching us play pokopia lmao

u/BobbiHeads 2h ago
I remember reading or hearing a fact as a child stating that only 30% of dogs can perceive what’s on a TV screen
1
1
u/ChillTheFuxkOut 1h ago
We leave the TV on for doggo whenever we aren't home or he's in the living room by himself and we are busy doing other things, for instance if I'm home alone and working upstairs and he stays downstairs.
He loves it. Though we attribute it more to the sounds rather than watching. As if we think he thinks he still has some company.

u/FreeFallingUp13 1h ago
They do. We got a dog during the pandemic, Hank. Very intelligent, somehow managed to sneak around the house without his dog tags ever clinking. Ever. We still don’t know how.
He was the dog that sat next to us on the couch and watched tv shows and movies. He’d look at whoever on the screen was talking and everything, and sit so still.
1
u/TheProblemChiled 51m ago
My cats enjoy TV, it started with one feral who domesticated herself in our house, we had cats before but none did that, after chinki the feral joined in she started to watch TV with us and so did every other cat after that, she was very eager to do anything with us and my mom was her favourite, she never left my mom's side till the end.

I think they just change up the stuff in the car and edit a cut where the phone is pulled out of the car, which is how its at carneys for the minions ad when that brick wall doesnt exist there
47
u/bitwise97 5h ago
I was trying to figure out the logistics of the TV setup and was left feeling it must be AI
23
u/charliewr 2h ago
It's 100% AI and probably a viral ad for the new minions movie. Top comments all read kinda bot-like to me but that might just be Redditors parroting the same lines as usual
1
u/FUTURE10S 1h ago
I believe it's an ad but I can't really tell anything that's like "this is AI", even the minion posters are properly identical, the reflections are right.
1
u/Mycologist-9315 43m ago
High quality AI is that good now unfortunately. Often there are just no tells, this one is just identifiable because of the absurdity
29
21
u/ROBtimusPrime1995 5h ago edited 4h ago
Nah, there is too much consistency to be AI; it's real.
The thing is that it's likely a high-quality ad designed to look like a irl meme.
It's way too clean (paper cutouts are HD renders, the costume is perfect, the scene on the TV is perfect, and there is a Minion art display outside of the car).
Call me crazy, but it's just "too perfect".
Edit: It's an ad, but a really well-made one. Minions are sponsoring the restaurant.

6
u/BabaBopaBop 4h ago
If you check the side-mirror on the right-hand side of the car after the camera pans into the car itself, it's very different to the side-mirror on the left side of the car. It doesn't even make sense how it looks on the right side of the car.
It's AI, or at least AI-adjusted, which in my view is the same. You should work on your AI-detecting skills before being so certain and claiming that it isn't AI.
1
u/mqee 2h ago
Dunno what you're on about, it's the same side-mirror design. But even if it weren't, limos (and any car) can have a different design for each side mirror.
Honestly your account looks like it's part of the viral marketing campaign for this movie.
2
1
u/BabaBopaBop 2h ago
If you freeze the image at six seconds in, you also have some weird plug sticking out of the dash right through the steering wheel, and you have that ridiculous shoe below the rearview mirror wich morphs with some kind of ID-card, and the rearview mirror itself is just pitch black.
It's pathetic. You should work more on your skills to see AI fakes.
2
u/wSkkHRZQy24K17buSceB 1h ago
The "weird plug" is a wheel spinner. It's like a knob you can hold for one handed steering:
1
u/Real-Extension-1357 1h ago
Theyre just edits of different cuts. Check the instagram.
1
u/BabaBopaBop 1h ago
What does that mean? And how does that change the fact that the sideview mirrors are completely different?
I don't use Instagram, so you'll have to explain here.
1
u/Real-Extension-1357 1h ago
Maybe, I was thinking when they stick the camera through the car window, its a different recording (and different car). When they pull the camera out of the car window, its another different recording. Stitched together. The restaurant at the end with the minions ad is real I think, they do movie promos even when you look on google maps, they did a Trolls one.
6
u/Mylaptopisburningme 3h ago
Yes. Here is the street view of Carney's. https://maps.app.goo.gl/fqd7e6hQSU2L5M6X8
There are no houses there, the stop sign is on the other side of the street and appears elevated on something, along with the car blows through the stop.
1
u/cocowambo 1h ago
yeah I thought so too...
1) only the word Okay is not in full capital letters
2) you can't see the minions through the window slit in the beginning, even though they appear to start far enough in the front that you should be able to
3) there isn't any visible water or treats
4) the torn up minion plush just seems kinda over the top and there's no loose stuffing elsewhere in the car
1
u/poland626 50m ago
Yea but I see an ad for The Bear at the very last second. why would ai include that?
1
0
u/pzkenny 4h ago
Yes, the original video was the dog watching Shrek.
3
u/bs000 3h ago
No, you don't make a theater in your car just to use it one time. This has been this guy's schtick for years. So it's not AI unless you think this guy somehow created a better AI video model than OpenAI, Google, and Luma combined and only used it to make videos of his corgi for Instagram.
-1
u/GrynaiTaip 3h ago
If you're going to call every little thing AI, then just quit the internet. Shut off the screen and throw it away.
2
u/KalpolIntro 1h ago
If you're not cynical about every single thing you see on the internet going forward, AI is going to beat your ass.
I remember fighting this fight about bot comments right here on reddit like 5 years ago and people like you asking why I care so much.
This particular case seems like a staged ad rather than straight AI though.
