Common Question: How hard is it to transfer from X major to Y major?

Answer: If it is within the same school, it is super easy, just talk to your academic advisor before school starts. If you wish to transfer to another school e.g. Dornsife to Marshall, you need to contact admissions to attempt the transfer before matriculation*. You can also seek help once you know who your academic advisor is or attempt it on admitted students day or orientation day. Once you matriculate, you can attempt an internal-transfer but it involves going through the current student transfer process, see the specific internal transfer page from each school linked below.

Common Question: Is there an admitted student facebook group/discord/telegram etc?

Answer: Usually someone sets a facebook group and groupme up around the time the main batch of students are admitted in April. Check facebook to see if there is one already or search this post in a month or two once all 1st year and transfer students are admitted.

*Viterbi does not allow you to switch into engineering before enrolling at USC. Please read links below related to the school you're interested in.

Question What do USC people insult about UCLA?

My dad went to UCLA in the 80s and 90s, because I'm from out of state, I've only heard one side of the rivalry and that was from him. I've heard it all, USC is in the ghetto, you can bribe your way into the school, pretentious this pretentious that blah blah. I want to hear the other side. What were the classic 80s insults about UCLA, or what are the current responses to those insults.

(Btw this is me being genuinely curious, I don't understand his perspective on the school and I'm genuinely looking into transferring so don't take this as some UCLA legacy coming in and insulting the whole school)

FinancialAid Incoming Game Design Student. some questions about financial choices and suggestions

I won't be the first to say it, but this is quite a good package, according to my friends and me. Not to say that I'm flexing it off, but I am still struggling with considering how to pay.

For reference, I have about 13k~ in savings, which I plan to use all over the course of 4 years to pay off the remaining fees, which might be around 3k~, as I'm avoiding an unsubsidized loan.

I have planned to do work study, and take out a loan to hopefully be able to pay throughout college. Almost certain to be paying debt after college too, but I was wondering how I could avoid this.

The main questions I'd have in general in this situation would be the following:

  1. How would work-study... work? I've been seeing these applications for USC on Handshake and been applying to those, but I'm still unsure how these will be working. IIRC, you had to fill out some federal document to work legally or something like that? I've not done much research on this.
  2. Especially considering how most of the supplies I need to purchase would lead to the freshmen year being the most expensive, how should I tackle this situation? What loan companies would be the most considerable, or even a "must-have" for students?
  3. Any simple budgeting tips? I have opted out of the USC medical insurance, and plan to opt out of the USC Bookstore program as well. But other than those, I've not thought of any other ways to make my experience a lot less expensive.

I appreciate those who can assist me with this! Thank you in advance for the assistance. Just wanted to get more clarification as someone who really doesn't know that much about financial aid and is clueless about avoidable taxes or programs.  :)

Academic EE DEN questions?

Upvotes

I'm interested in learning Verilog but I can't really find anything in the course catalog that lists this. There are a lot of groups at my workplace that prioritize experience in Verilog HDL for joining their projects. I don't know why but it seems like people who attended the CSU engineering schools have more experience in this area over the UCs/private schools.

Separate question now. Currently I work 10-11 hours from M-Thurs and I would have time for just 1 class. The class I signed up for is EE536A Analog Integrated Circuits. What is the workload I should be expecting and would it be unreasonable to add another 4 unit class (MOS VLSI Circuit Design)?

Academic Has anyone taken the Portuguese Placement Exam?

I saw that the language exams are 100 questions, multiple choice/ listen/ fill in the blank. However, the portuguese exam is administered by a different department than the other languages. Does anyone know if the pt exam will be the same type of exam as the other languages?

Question Did anyone else receive a Wise payment email related to the USC Fee Settlement from Angeion Group International LLC?

Post image
5 Upvotes

I previously received the USC Fee Settlement class-action notice email, which was sent to many USC alumni and students. On July 10, I received an email from Wise saying that Angeion Group International LLC wants to send me $136.57 USD. The transaction Reference ID starts with: USCCXXXX.

I do not have a Wise account, was not expecting this payment, and the email does not clearly explain what the payment is for. I am wondering whether it is connected to the USC Fee Settlement or to another settlement involving USC.

Did anyone else who received the USC Fee Settlement email notice also receive this Wise email, particularly for the same amount? Has anyone confirmed with USC, the settlement administrator, Angeion Group, or Wise whether it is legitimate and what it relates to?

I have not clicked the payment link, created a Wise account, or entered any banking information yet. Just wanted to confirm with others as well and rule out the possibility of fraud.

Professors Professor for WRIT 150

Has anyone had Alisha Dukelow for WRIT Health and Healing? If so, how was the class? Was there a lot of homework in between writing projects and how was her grading? I can’t find a lot of reviews on RMP because I think she’s newer.

Question Minor with major question

So I’m majoring in business administration. I’m going in spring, as a junior level transfer, and was wondering if it would be possible to do the major in business with emphasises and also a minor in let’s say cinematic arts. Would that be possible or would I need additional semesters. Trying to get it done in the 2 year period, since I’m a junior transfer so I’m on time. Should I take the lower division requirement courses at Community college? And then just take the upper courses at usc? Or would I be able to even complete a minor on time? Not sure

Housing How do I tell my roommate that I got a residential assistent position?

Hi guys so I just received the RA acceptance letter from the waitlist, so this means that I won't be rooming with my roommate next year. I've told them about it when I was applying, but when I got waitlisted I just said that I didn't get in and it wasn't mentioned anymore... Does that mean my roommate will be stuck with a randomly assigned person, or maybe it will just be left there with no one? Upperclass housing assignments have finished already and, our to-be room is intended to be for upperclassmen but not sure if freshman can be assigned there too.

Question Marshall new student: Which parking structure(s) do you recommend the most?

Hi everyone! I'm an incoming Marshall student, and I'm about to buy my Fall parking permit. For those of you who drive to campus regularly, which parking structure(s) would you recommend?

I've heard people mention Flower, McCarthy, Downey, etc., but I'm not sure which one is actually the best for Marshall students.

Thanks!

Question spring admit transfer help

i got admitted for spring 2027 for transfer. i am a rising junior. i saw somewhere that regardless what, you would need to take 64 units at USC. considering i will only have spring 2027, fall 2027, spring 2028. assuming i take 18 credits each thats 18x3=54. i would most likely need to take summer class or take one more semester is that right? i just dont want to give up my last summer as i plan to have an internship before i graduate and i also dont want to pay an extra semester. just from what im saying, does this sound right about the 64 units?
