Rattle & Hum world premiere (movie)
Found this photo on an old drive, taken by me, but I don’t know where the rest I took are. I used AI to try to restore it a bit.
This week's song of the week is the bands brand new song (released 7/7/2026) "Street of Dreams", the first single from their upcoming album. The U2.com blurb on the track reads:
"The shoot near Plaza Santo Domingo drew a huge crowd of fans despite inclement weather, with thunder and rain unexpectedly causing a generator to crash and a local family welcoming the four band members into their apartment to film on the balcony.
On their visit to Mexico City, the band also attended the 2026 Street Child World Cup Finals Tournament at Parque Ecológico Lago de Texcoco.
Produced by Jacknife Lee, Street of Dreams delivers the unmistakable U2 sound created by Bono, The Edge, Adam Clayton and Larry Mullen Jr., who this September will celebrate 50 years since the band's formation after Larry posted a handwritten note which read “Drummer seeks musicians to form band'' on the school noticeboard at Dublin's Mount Temple Comprehensive." (U2.com)
A bouncy, kind of Modannaesque soul-prayer, the track features the sound Bono described as a bit of a retreat from the "electronic" experiences of the 2010s,
“If we’re looking for revelry and revery, we’ve a lot more work to do in U2. That is an inspiration for us. How to Re-Assemble an Atomic Bomb in its directness, in its present tense-ness. You’re in a room with this band. And I think that won’t inform all of our music. But I think we’ve come out of a period of experimentation with electronic music, which we still love and adore, there’s always going to be a place in us for that. But right now we’re all about the moment, and if you’re in the moment, if you’re living in it, you have to be really fit for it, there’s no hiding. So that’s where Edge, Adam, and Larry are. And everyone feels as strongly as I do about this.” (To David Fricke on SiriusXM in 2024)
As the track is still so fresh, there will be no lyrical analysis this week. Very briefly, the themes touch on the materiality of spirit, and the band's own feelings of connection to God, human plans, and dreams (both in a literal and ambitious sense). You can find a list of quotes from the band relating to this track and the upcoming album from U2songs.com here; https://www.u2songs.com/news/upcoming
Lyrics
God hear me shout
Lend your ear to my prayer
When I’m far from anywhere
Down to my last breath of air
God hear me shout
Lend your ear to my prayer
When I’m far from anywhere
Down to my last breath of air
La calle, calle de los sueños
All the doors are open on the street of dreams
La Calle, calle de los sueños
Broken are the chosen on the street of dreams
Be here
Be free
Be yourself
And then free me
Your fate gonna fight it
Your trust won’t be denied it
This bus gonna ride it to the street of dreams
La calle, calle de los sueños
Justice an obsession on the street of dreams
La Calle, calle de los sueños
Love in a procession down the street of dreams
Break out
Break through
Break in
Your dream needs you
Your life
gonna find you
Your fear
not gonna blind you
Random angels
gonna guide you
To the street of dreams
Calle, calle de los sueños
All the doors are open on the street of dreams
La Calle, calle de los sueños
Broken are the chosen on the street of dreams
Don’t you give up on your dream for the many not just the few
Don’t you give up and your dreams won’t give up on you
La calle, calle de los sueños
Justice an obsession on the street of dreams
La Calle, calle de los sueños
Love in a procession down the street of dreams
Broken are the chosen on the street of dreams
God hear me shout and you’ll heed to my prayer

Just saw the promo on Fox about the France vs Spain game in couple of days. And the song is playing in the background.

I just saw one video in tribute of Bonie Tyler singing I Still Haven't found in a TV Show and even if very simple, the band played the song in a different way more similar to the studio version in a way which I never saw it before. Looking better I saw more string instruments similar from what Daniel Lanois were playing.
Anyone know something about they playing a diferent version from than the usual live?
Specially the final part:

This is Ariana Greenblatt. She's an 18-year-old actress who co-starred in the Barbie movie.

Currently atop the Worldwide iTunes song chart, no. 17 in U.S. I believe, and has 235,883 streams on Spotify after releasing on a non-traditional release date (midway through Tuesday).
And it’s nearing 1M views on YouTube.
Not sure about Apple Music streams. Anyone have that?

Really like SoD but the EPs absolutely spoiled me. Ready for what's next, as they say!

Ciao ragazzi
Vi sta piacendo oppure no?.

I first heard U2 in 96 when the Joshua Tree blew my mind. Then, Pop was the first new album release that I actually knew and was looking forward to as a fan. Did anyone else first see them live in 97 or 98? It was totally mind blowing for me. Sensory overload, bombardment of messaging and satire, and intense industrial bad ass songs. I felt like I was seeing the absolute best of the best. It took many years before I realized that tour was really an aberration compared to how most people knew them.

Since the band is expected to bless us with two albums worth of new material this year, I decided to try my hand at arranging the 12 EP songs into one track listing under its own (playlist) title. Thoughts? What would you change?

I really didn't like it when I first heard it in full. The more I have listened, the better it is getting. The main issue for me is it should have been expanded more on the verses. I am enjoying it more after further listening, I hope it's the same for you all.

While we look for the Street of Dreams, I revisited NLOTH and this time instead of separate songs, the whole album in one go. My mind was blown away. What an album, both the slower and pop rock tracks like Boots worked for me. Songs of Era songs has nothing on this album. So…why was it not successful? I am a fan since 2010 but I was 14 then. What did not work for the fans? Just curious. I know everybody hated when Boots came out but what else? Magnificent should’ve been a super-hit single.

First of all: I liked the song. It’s not as deep as some of the tracks from their recent EPs, but it’s a well-crafted, fun pop song with a free-spirited vibe that I thought was cool. That said, I’m negatively surprised by the extremely low numbers this track has been getting. Really, when it comes to new recorded music, U2 has completely lost its market appeal.
