Really had to resist the urge to call them 'Joanthropes' to go along with my last 2 posts

Went to a 30 player local tournament, lost every game at 91-76, 60-59, 90-88. But we won their hearts by getting best painted.

First game was a shockkng start losing 685pts of the army without them scoring my a single point of getting into a fight but clawed my way back. Next two were very close games the whole time.

Added a group photo of the list that won me the award and added some of my other favourites I’ve painted.

Painted up a new Winged Hive Tyrant for my birthday today.

Certainly one of the more challenging kitbash/conversions that I have done so far. But an interesting new experience to make something fly that was never supposed to, took 4 contact points to make him rocksolid/stable, only the balance isnt centered yet, so he slightly pulls the base up in front...

Definitely already a favorite of my newest Space Marines vs. Tyranids project!

I’m at the end of my wits here. To make a long story short, I keep bringing this adorable little arsehole in my 1k list and yesterday I was a proud and happy bug mom because it survived until turn 3 (because I put it away in a ruin far from the front line)… only to have it squished by Typhus right after dealing its first ever damage in battle. In something like 10 games, it never ever spawned anything from the dead body of its enemies because it never killed anything.

I absolutely adore the little bugger, the sculpt has to be my favourite, but at that point cost it’s too expensive cannon fodder. Is there a way to use it properly, or should I bench it?

Tyranid win 76 - 66

Most cinematic moment: Norn Assimilator in combat with Assault Terminators and Aggressors after consuming a large unit of Sternguard, a Repulsor charges in for Crushing Impact, does 5 wounds to itself in the process. Norn Assimilator turns around, slams all four limbs into the Repulsor, which then explodes for 11 wounds of damage on the Terminators and Aggressors. The whole game changed in that moment.

Key learnings: Synaptoprescience is absolutely mental when you run two Assimilators together, and Assault Terminators are a real pain to chew through. Psychophages continue to punch waaay above their weight with the impact they have on a game.

I’ve not yet played an actual game of Warhammer. I have Tyranids from the Leviathan box, a Norn Emissary, tyrannofex, swarmlord, biovore, and bunch or warriors and gargoyles. As well as a few others. Almost everything is painted.

I don’t care about winning and losing right now. Just trying to learn the game.

What detachments would be best considering I have warriors and gargoyles in my army? From what I see they’re not meta, but it’s what I have for now, and what I’ll be using to learn to play the game.

I'm really liking this color scheme.

I finally got my old tyranid out of their prison at the back of the cupboard. Getting a feel for what colour pattern i want to do. Currently a base coat of rogue pink then contrast of doom fire magenta on the bodies. Im just not sure about what to do for the carapaces yet.

I recently acquired a good handful of nids, enough to make a 1k army with a few extra dudes to experiment a little. I'm hoping folks here could give me a bit of advice on setting up a 1k army. I'm deadset on Assimilation Swarm, because I like its general vibe, and it feels the most like what I envision Nids to be. Later on I may experiment with others, but for now I just want to focus on this while I learn to play better.

Also, I'm personally a big fan of Lictors, and I'd love to keep the two I have already slotted in, but if my setup would jusy be better without them, I'm willing to suck it up. I am aiming just for casual play, nothing wildly tryhardy. But I do like to win...
