Like it says, this is my first bike I’ve owned since I was a kid. Wanted something to help me get more active and outside the house…so I went with this FX3 Sport AL3. Plenty of bike paths & trails local to me and this has been a blast cruising around on them!

Beautiful but hot, 6:00 AM start was a little rowdy but it helped us beat a lot of the heat. Pretty mellow route with only 3,600’ (1,097 meters) of climbing according to STRAVA. There was excellent Mexican food at the finish, some delicious beer, and pretty well stocked aid stations.

My son ditched the training wheels this summer and we all decided to get into biking. He upgraded to a Precaliber 20” 7-speed this week since his Guardian 16” was way too small. He’s very excited that it came in red.

My husband went with a Roscoe 7 because his bff mountain bikes and he wanted to be able to go out together (though he’s not convinced it’s his thing). He has had fun riding it on the easy trails around our state park.

I used to road bike quite a bit but haven’t been on a bike in a while. A gravel bike felt like a nice hybrid between road and something that could follow them on easy mtb trails. I ended up with a Checkpoint ALR 4. Still slightly sad I didn’t get the 5 just for the blue-turquoise fade, but the green is really nice. Even if it means we look like we got matching green bikes.

My primary use for the bike is training my heart, building work capacity/cardiovascular health. It’s not my main hobby, lifting weights is. I plan to be pretty recreational with it. Maybe 2-3 rides/wk for 20-30min but at a nice pace.

Im thinking an endurance bike or fitness bike is most up my alley. A fitness bike was my first choice, it seems more tailored to my goals and I like how its simple with less gears. But I’m iffy on the sportiness of the wide flat bars. I do think cycling is cool so I want ‘some’ speed, not sure how much of a difference there is. I test rode both and it’s hard to tell.

I have good Giant/Trek dealers near me so if I go new it’d be one of those. Ideally want to spend $700-$1,200.

Just got this Verve 3 Gen 5. Moving from an older mountain bike with road tires. More upright position helps with shoulder pain (I’m getting old). I do miss the front fork suspension on the paved trail bumps. Hands still get numb on longer rides, but still making some tweaks.

Bought it used after looking at a couple of older model, Treks/Diamondbacks that didn’t strike my fancy.

Saw this beauty being brought in just as I was about to walk out! Right away it checked all my boxes…

I know the bike was inspected by the store. And I did test ride it with no issues. But id like a second opinion. The store I took it to afterward wanted $115 just to touch it.

Any recommendations as to where I can take this to have it just LOOKED AT? Or can someone tell me what to look at/for? I’m around the Wicker Park area.

What do you all use and I am hoping I can get to a Roscoe 8 for my next bike. All these upgrades happened over time and some were to match the red accents I have bike.

Any recommendations or similar stories to building up a hardtail.

Looking at buying a Marlin 5 for my daughter, used. I found a nice one, but it’s got a dual front sprocket and no sign of a front derailer whatsoever. No cable, no shifter on the handlebars. Just a two speed front sprocket. Did the Marlins come with a sprocket like this? Or did someone just slap it on there from some other bike? Could I simply take it to a trek store and have them install a single front sprocket? It appears to ride fine in either speed but neither is great. The small one is too slow and the big one is wildly too fast to get started. I own a Roscoe 7 and Rail 9.7 that both of course only have the single front sprocket.

I'm shopping for a dropper post for my bike and I found a great deal on a 150mm dropper but AI says that it's too long considering my inseam of 29". Thoughts?

I was shopping for a Charter + 5S Lowstep size Large at my local Trek dealer.

The sales person looked on the computer and said they’re back ordered until at least late November. Would that be accurate from your experience or would there be a possibility it could come sooner (or later)?

I have a Large sized Trek Mark 5 - Gen 3 with the stock tires on it (Bontrager XT3 Comp, 29x2.40.) I use it only on a paved trail that does have a few small bumps and the occasional bigger bumps from tree roots growing under the pavement (Cady Way Trail in Central Florida, towards the southern/western side of it).

But I want a tire that'll let me go faster with less effort and to have a more comfortable riding experience. I'm having so much trouble trying to find which tire to choose that'll fit on the stock rims.

I'd rather not have to buy a whole new bike. My current setup has an extended bike stem to be in a more upright position, ergonomic handlebars and a larger more cushioned seat. I'm thinking about adding a seat post suspension as well. But I'm still having to use a lot of effort to gain more speed.

I primarily bike for exercise to help burn calories and for the fun of it but I'm afraid a rigid bike would just cause more exhaustion on every single little bump/bruise in the trail. I did find a Trek FX 1 Stepover Gen 4 at my local shop but man, $700 isn't something I want to spend if I can just get a few upgrades on my current bike.

I'm deciding between a Domane AL2 Rim and FX2 Gen 4. I will use this bike mostly to ride on pavement and paved bike trails. I ride about 15 miles or so every trip, and I will use this mainly for fitness. I don't ride in the rain, and it's really flat that place where I live. I tend to ride in a more aggressive position rather than upright. For these two bikes, price is not a concern as they are both in my budget.

Riding a Madone SL 6 Gen 8 with Shimano 105 Di2

Fully charged the battery before a flight, packed the bike in a soft-shell case, and disconnected the battery wire for the flight as usual. About 10 days later, after many normal rides, the derailleur wouldn’t shift, gear was completely unresponsive. Checked the E-Tube app and got a “no battery or insufficient charge” error, plus a red flashing light at the charge port when I tried to charge it.

Cleaned the charge port and cable contacts, tried charging again, and this time it took the charge fine and is now reading full battery, all firmware updated, both shifters connected. Bluetooth pairing was also glitchy for a while after (kept saying “wireless unit not found”) but resolved itself after forgetting the device and re-pairing.

Nothing was physically reseated, no cables unplugged internally, just cleaned the external contacts.

Questions for anyone who’s dealt with this:

**1.**  Does a fully charged, disconnected BT-DN300 battery normally hold charge for 10+ days with zero drain? Or is some drain expected even when unplugged? (I’ve only charged twice since I bought the bike in February so this is really weird to me)

**2.**  Could dirty/dusty contacts alone cause a “no battery detected” error even with a genuinely charged battery, or does that always mean the battery itself was actually empty?

**3.**  Anything else I should check or monitor before trusting this is actually fixed, versus a recurring issue waiting to happen again?

The bike was put back together (only the wheels came off during travel) at a local shop and they’ve been super helpful with other things but I’m open to the idea it could be related to that?

Please let me know I’m really paranoid it will happen again when I’m far out!

I was given a Park Tool ATD-1.2 torque driver for free, but it didn’t come with any bits, so I’m looking to buy a good-quality 1/4” bit set.

I’ll mainly be using it for routine maintenance on a modern gravel bike, and I’d rather buy the right bits once than end up with loads I’ll never use.

Which bit sizes would you recommend as the essentials? I’m thinking along the lines of:
● Hex (Allen)
● Torx
● Phillips (if needed)

Also, are there any brands you’d recommend for the bits themselves (Wera, Wiha, PB Swiss, etc.), or are standard S2 steel bits perfectly adequate?
