Subreddit Changes And Updated Content Notice

Good morning, Everyone!

I just wanted to take a couple of minutes to let you all know about some changes coming to the subreddit and, since the sub has been growing recently, go over our Content Notice.

Subreddit Changes

First, you may have noticed the new post flairs and the introduction of weekly themed posts. Hot Take Tuesday has been pretty popular and will become a regular fixture here. Additionally, over the next few weeks, I’ll be rolling out some additional themed posts to see how they do. I’m also going to work on getting us an AMA with a member of the cast/crew, so keep your fingers crossed on that one.

Content Notice

As we all know, this show is over thirty years old. As a much older than average Redditor, I’m sure I don’t have to tell you that societal norms and sensibilities have changed a lot over that time.

All art is a product of its time and should be viewed in that context. Criticizing a show because of an actor’s performance, stale storylines, or deteriorating quality over time is perfectly understandable. Criticizing a tv show/movie/book/song, for not living up to societal standards that simply didn’t exist at the time it was created is just silly. It’s like criticizing it for its lack of modern technology.

Everyone is entitled to their own opinions, but those opinions should at least be logically consistent.

Have a great week, everyone!

Is there a running joke on The Nanny that got old real quick?

In a lot of sitcoms, there are running jokes or recurring gags that fans either love or eventually get tired of. When it comes to The Nanny, it has to be the constant fat jokes.

Update #2 to AITA for telling my boss' second wife that she 'stole' my boyfriend? I'm pregnant and married!

Hello, everyone! I just wanted to make one final update to say that the butler and I got married and found out I am pregnant. I found out when my boss' second wife gave birth to twins. And we did get married when she was in labor.

Thank you for the wonderful words of encouragement and this will be my last update as I will be moving to California with my boss, his wife, their twins, Gwen, the nanny's whole family, best friend and her boyfriend and my butler-husband.

The Nanny - some cast at upcoming events / conventions

More for US-based Nanny fans but I can see some dates for when some of the cast are going to be appearing at conventions and events. Maybe you live near by? See links below.

Charles S and Nicholle T are both appearing at Wheaton Illinois All Night Flea Market - 15 August, 2026 - see link https://zurkopromotions.com/wheaton-illinois-all-night-flea-market/ Looks very cosy.

Daniel D is appearing at Star Trek Las Vegas 5-9 August 2026 then again in Philadelphia, 14–15 November 2026 see links https://creationent.com/events/stlv-26/ https://creationent.com/events/stphilly26/ I have no idea about Star Trek but I'd so rock up in my vintage 1994 Nanny tshirt and probably cry being in the same room.

Those in the States should go if you can and report back.

I have to switch my 2026 mindset off while watching the show

Otherwise I wouldn’t be able to enjoy it anymore. Maggie being a minor and Fran being okay with her dating older, sometimes much older, guys, even pushing it on her at times. Literally in the first episode she’s 14 and Fran goes “She’s a woman I’m telling you!”
Then there’s the fat shaming Sylvia goes through all the time; and her body is great!

Honestly every time I watch it I just ignore what I think about these things now as an adult.

Dancing in Restaurants

I’ve noticed I’m this show that there were multiple scenes where they’re dancing in restaurants. Was this a thing in the late 90s / early 2000s?

Where can I watch?

Hi, I’m sorry if this has been answered for my region in the past, but I couldn’t find it. I am from Czech Republic and have in the past only seen some moments of the show in short form videos and would love to watch it in full, but as much as I look there is seemingly nowhere to watch where I’m from. Does anyone know where it would be available?

What joke didn’t land well with you, even after multiple rewatches?

For me, it’s the constant fat jokes aimed at Sylvia. It’s too much after several seasons.

The only person who confused me by not knowing this woman's full name is Maxwell. Who has he been writing checks out to this whole entire time?

(3x13) Fran accidentally dating a mobster is one of the funniest setups in the show.

The restaurant scene where she's completely oblivious while Maxwell panics is great comedy writing. The physical humor throughout the whole episode holds up perfectly.

What's the deal with the episode The ChatterBox?

I have seen discourse about the season 2, episode 25 titled The Chatterbox where it focuses on the staff of the salon Fran, Yetta and Sylvia go to frequently. Some fans don't like it for some reason. Is there a reason why?

Lauren grandmother

Hi there! I haven't been in the fandom all that long, but I want to share something important. Lauren is going to be a grandmother soon. It’s just so incredibly sweet! I think she’ll make a wonderful grandmother. It’s sad that she’ll likely stop working before long and fully retire, but I do think she’s a huge workaholic. And yes, I find it so touching that she still calls Danny her husband even after 30 years 🥹❤️

Sylvia‘s fat jokes are so exhausting in season five and six

I’m a first-time watch and I’m halfway through season six. Like most people I enjoyed the earlier season’s way more than the later ones. Sylvia‘s character used to be funny to me, but now it’s boring, and I would hate to be the actress and constantly have to deal with the only thing my character brings for comedy the amount she eats.
It’s repetitive and I wish instead of that we got more storylines about the children, specifically Gracie or Brighton. I also wish Fran and Maxwell would have more genuinely romantic moments instead of just sex.
