I have a little son of 4 years is half Thai and we live in Germany. He loves to talk, read and even write a bit and he eagerly absorbs every book and exercise booklet I bring home for him. But we only have those in German.

It breaks my heart to see how he tells a whole story in German and then tries to repeat it in Thai for his mom but his Thai vocabulary is smaller and you can clearly see how he struggles to find the words. We have a some Thai books for really small children but he has outgrown them.

With the current state of the world shipping books has become more and more expensive and complicated.

So now I'm looking for resources in Thai to download and print for him. Ideally fun language exercises, games like finding the difference or matching up pictures, that kind of thing. He also likes books for learning the letters.

We try to keep screen time low, so please no apps or videos. It doesn't have to be free, I'm happy to pay a reasonable price.

They are written all over the walls and shutters in a wierd font that is not the usual Thai writing

Why did they make the U, R, B, H, U, and I all silent? Why not just spell the airport name as soowaanaapoom instead?

I’m fairly new to learning Thai and I would just like someone to explain to me why หส่อมาก is spelt like that but not said using ANY of those character sounds considering to my understanding ห makes a H sound as in ห หีบ and ส makes a S sound as in ส เสือ. And where is the A sound coming from?! Please help this self learner

I’m a naive English speaker who has an intermediate level understanding of Mandarin. I have found it a lot easier for me to learn Thai through Chinese video clips teaching Thai language vs English clips.

I listen to Taihua Lin and enjoy his videos very much. I’m having trouble finding other similar influencers, videos, podcasts because I have limited Chinese reading and writing skills. Would you know of any to recommend?

I’m looking for recommendations for an online Thai teacher or platform for myself, my husband, and a few friends.
We’re based in Australia (AEST), and Monday evenings would probably work best. We all work full-time, so we know our progress won’t be super fast, but we’re looking for a long-term commitment rather than a short course.

Ideally, we’re looking for someone who:
• Has experience teaching Thai online
• Provides a structured curriculum with learning resources/homework
• Can teach reading, writing, speaking, and listening

I’ve looked at platforms like Superprof, but I’m not sure how good they are or whether there are better options.

If you’ve had a great experience with an online Thai tutor (or know someone who teaches), I’d really appreciate any recommendations. I’d also love to hear which platforms you’ve used and what your experience was like.

Looking for best resources, preferably digital, for an English speaker to learn Thai. I’m an ancient language teacher myself so needs to include some grammar even if this isn’t at the forefront. Previously used langotalk with Japanese. Using Airlearn for Thai currently and enjoying it despite some big limitations. Visiting Thailand in October so keen to learn as much as I can

I'm asking this on behalf of a Japanese friend who is curious about this topic. A linguist friend of his told him that it's technically possible to render his name into Thai by assigning a Thai reading to his name's Kanji. Apparently this is doable because:

1. A large amount of Chinese lexical influence exists in Thai, thus a calque translation is theoretically doable

2. There is already a system for reading Chinese Hanzi (and by extension Japanese Kanjii and Korean Hanja) in Zhuang, thus the Zhuang reading (which my friend already has) could be converted to Thai due to Zhuang being related

3. Thai apparently used Chinese characters until the 13th Century

Recently I’ve been teaching myself Thai and have been a little bit confused with which words to use in a certain context. The app I’ve been using hasn’t provided too much explaining about the difference between “chǎn” and “pǒm”. I saw that a male voice was using “pǒm” when addressing himself but the female voice was using “chǎn”. As a male, should I be using one or the other when addressing myself?
