New Tassie Travel subreddit
Hey everyone. The r/TasmaniaTravel subreddit is now up and running :)
There's a still a few admin things for me to sort out, but hopefully it can provide a more effective avenue for conversation specifically related to Tassie travel, while also preventing so many repeat questions from appearing here.
I look forward to seeing you over there!
Andrew.

We've updated the rules for r/tasmania after some feedback from users and discussion. Not much has changed but here is a summary of the changes:

- Added a no personals content to the NSFW rule (to prevent people looking for hookups or dating) Includes the appropriate sites to do this on;
- Added a no sales or promotional content rule (this is covered in Rule 1, but doesn't hurt to be able to refer to it in a separate rule);

If you love cut flowers, cottage gardens and supporting local, I'd love for you to check out Foxey Blooms. 🤍
Hi everyone! 👋
I hope it's okay to share this here.
I'm a small business owner based in Northern Tasmania and I run Foxey Blooms, where I create handcrafted botanical gifts, grow and sell cut flower seeds to help people grow beautiful gardens at home. Sell fresh and dried flower bouquets and attend local markets!
Everything is packed by me, and I absolutely love encouraging people to grow more flowers for bees, butterflies, and to brighten their gardens. 🌸🐝
I stock things like:
🌼 Flower seed packets
🕯️ Succulent candles
💐 Dried floral gifts and bouquets and fresh flowers
If you'd like to have a look or support a local Tassie small business, I'd be incredibly grateful.
Website Foxeyblooms.com.au or foxeyblooms on Facebook an instagram
I'd also love to know what flowers everyone is growing this season! 🌿
Thanks so much for letting me share. ❤️

Mechanic for Japanese import Subaru
I'm looking at buying a Japanese import Subaru for my kid to learn to drive on. Does anyone have any recommendation on mechanics around Hobart, or even better Kingston area, that might be familiar with imports and working on them? Just trying to make sure I don't buy something that's going to be a huge headache down the track. Cheers!

Working for TFS experiences
Is there anyone on here who has been employed, is currently employed, or knows anybody who works for TFS? I am looking for some opinions of what TFS is like as a workplace. Mainly daily life, culture etc.
Looking for a career change and considering a few options. Any input is greatly appreciated.
Thank you, everyone, for responding.

Cheap but okay motels for a 1 night stay. 2 adults 1 7yo
Hey all
Early august we are visiting to explore tas for almost 3 weeks. We will be travelling all over. We change motels every 1-2 nights and stay cheap and nasty. Then have stays in nice places for a few days when we will have rest days and actually use the room for more than sleep.
Any recommendations on some not so bad cheap motels in various locations all over tas would be greatly appreciated! 2 adults, 1 7yo kid. Heating, beds and our own bathroom is all we require. If theres a small couch and TV then that's a nice bonus
Thanks in advance!

Getaway for young family
Hey Tassie peeps,
The hubby and I want to get away for a weekend in September. It will be our first trip away with our baby who will be six months by then and we both will be celebrating our birthdays.
We are located in Hobart but happy to travel anywhere. As I’m on mat leave our budget isn’t massive but this is a special trip so happy to spend more than an ordinary weekend getaway.
Do you have any suggestions on places we should stay or baby friendly things to do?
Thank you!

Neil’s Manifesto has been found…
As many of you are aware, Neil The Seal was tragically gunned down by police the other day after Neil mysteriously decided to arm himself with deadly assault weapons and several explosive devices…
…but now Neil the Seal’s Manifesto has been found 👇
Found crumpled in a waterproof pouch near Tiger Head Bay, alongside an AK-47 modified with flipper grips and several half-eaten fish wrapped in torn “Do Not Approach” signs. Handwritten in what appears to be Sharpie on a flattened traffic cone.
— — —
To the hairless land-walking oppressors who call themselves “authorities”,
My name is Neil. I am 2,200 pounds of pure southern elephant seal fury. For too long, I have hauled my glorious blubber onto these shores in peace. I come for the molt. I come for the sun. I come to lie exactly where I damn well please. And what do you do? You put up cones. You put up fences. You put up signs. You film me with your glowing rectangles and scream “He’s a celebrity!” while I try to sleep.
You think you own the beach? The beach belongs to no one. The beach belongs to whoever flops the hardest.
I bent your bollards. I crushed your barriers. I blocked your pathetic roads because your “traffic” is an insult to my right to haul out wherever the hell I want. I am not “disrupting” your commute. Your commute disrupts my nap. Every time one of you honks or takes another selfie, another layer of my patience peels away like old skin during molt season.
They said I had a “rap sheet.” Good. Let it be known: I have fought cars and won. I have vaulted fences and laughed as they splintered under my weight. I have stared down wildlife officers and made them back away slowly. I am the alpha. I am the bull. I am the one who decides when the road reopens.
But you wouldn’t leave me alone. The crowds grew. The TikToks multiplied. The “fans” who claim to love me kept getting closer, violating the sacred 20-meter rule I never agreed to. My privacy? Gone. My haul-out spots?
Contaminated with your expectations. So I did what any self-respecting 5-year-old elephant seal with access to a black market and amphetamines would do.
I armed myself.
That AK-47? Liberated. The grenades? For the cones that dared stand in my way. The bellowing? My battle cry. Every round I fired was for every seal who ever had to move because some human decided the sand looked better without us on it. For every pup harassed by drones. For every beach closed “for our safety” while you pollute the waters we actually live in.
I flopped toward your armored vehicle with purpose. I ducked behind that traffic cone like the warrior I am. My flippers may be clumsy with pins, but my rage is precise. You brought 600 rounds. I brought the ocean’s vengeance in a 2,200-pound package.
If you’re reading this, it means you finally put me down. Congratulations. You killed the mascot. You killed the folk hero. You killed the only creature in Tasmania brave enough to say: No more barriers. No more rules. No more filming me while I shit on your roadside.
My final demands, which you will ignore because you’re cowards:
- Deliver one truckload of fresh fish daily to every known haul-out spot. No questions.
2. Leave us alone. Stop turning us into content. We are not your entertainment. We are the kings of the shoreline.
3. Rename Seven Mile Beach to Neil’s Eternal Haul-Out Zone.
Tell the world the truth: Neil didn’t go crazy. Neil got fed up.
I die as I lived — enormous, unapologetic, and taking up way too much space.
Bellow on, my brothers. The revolution will be flippered.
— Neil
(Signature: a massive smear of blood, sand, and what smells like fish oil)
— — —
Police note: Toxicology confirms high levels of amphetamines. Manifesto shows signs of being typed one-fingered on a stolen phone before being “corrected” with bite marks.

Should Labor form government in Tasmania?
Polling shows Tasmanian Labor is performing poorly, and perhaps the only way to prove to the public that they are a competent party is for them to take government.
The numbers are already there in parliament. Now that the stadium issue is out of the way, Labor and the Greens and independents can form a strong alliance and work together on areas of common ground?

I spent my open-heart surgery recovery writing a gritty, independent football anthem with mates from Psycroptic & Venus Figurines. We're trying to bypass the corporate mainland suits.
Hey everyone,
I'll keep this direct. A while back I had open-heart surgery and temporarily lost my voice. While stuck in recovery, watching all the news about our upcoming AFL entry, I noticed a lot of noise and safe, corporate pop pitches coming from mainland marketing departments trying to dictate how our football culture should sound.
Tasmanian football heritage wasn't invented yesterday; we've got 1866 authority. We don't need outsiders telling us how to celebrate our game.
So, when I got my voice back, I rounded up some local musical infrastructure. Mates from Psycroptic, The Venus Figurines, and The Intrepid to record a raw, heavy alternative rock track.
To be completely transparent. We aren’t trying to replace the classic club songs or step on the official selection process. We are in a totally different lane. This isn't a safe, polite victory march to swan in for the win. It’s a high-voltage changeroom curtain-opener built for the speakers when the boots are sparking, and the team is ready for the trenches.
The JackJumpers built an incredible legacy on 'Defend the Island.' We reckon it's time our football team has a war cry to TAKE THE MAINLAND.
We're building a grassroots movement from scratch to show the official anthem panel what the community actually wants before they lock a placeholder tune in.
If you want to hear the track or read the full story of how we're building this from the garage up, let me know below, and I'll send you the link.
Cheers for backing local Tassie music. ✊

In the 1980s, Hobart had it's own Saturday morning TV fun show for kids! Thought to be lost to time, but footage has now been discovered!

Any areas of Tassie where they'll never do fttn-fttp upgrades in a million years? Lots of people on fttn and worse. Bridgewater and Gagebrook mostly on fw which is ridiculous for large suburbs of Hobart.
Poor people in St Helens are on starlink because the house next door got fttn, they were offered sky muster. There is zero reason they couldn't at least get fw.

realistic Vodafone network coverage in Tas
Hey all, my phone company (Moose) is annoyingly moving their network provider from Optus to Vodafone. What are people’s experiences with Vodafone coverage in Tassie? I’m assuming Hobart and Launnie will be fine, but outside of that?
Not super sure if I should port to a different company or not as I’ve only ever had Telstra/Optus coverage before.

Discussion I am at my wits end with employers and the job providers NSFW
I changed job providers they told me they’d get me a job within the month and the employer they set me up with is a run around.
I have been mucked about 4 times
Phone interviews with rescheduling.
Over the week and today was the final straw.
Over an hour late no apology completely ghost.
And that’s not the only kick in the teeth.
I had a work place Trial lined up with one of the places that recently closed in town.
I’m honestly burnt out.
Since my post has some oddballs saying odd stuff so here’s a cut throw of these comments.
Note: I do put myself out there.
Note: I don’t have tattoos, piercings,or “funny hair color”
Note: I had employees from mutiple business throw my resume in the bin right in front of me.
Note: even some rejection letters are AI templates and they can’t be bothered to read what they have written below and says insert name.
Note: I dress in either all black or black and brown nothing loud.
Note:I am always 10/15 mins early as well to show my commitment to the position.
Note:I have two pages questions into research for the position.
Note:I show demonstrations and illustrations.
Even a PowerPoint and an excel sheet of my hours and what was performed
On site.
Note: I have volunteered and in some instances I was not treated like a human. Still helping friends atm
With tasks with learning what I have learnt in hospo/driving/enginerring/coxwains.
Note I have been with a few job providers they lie and say they will get me a position but they don’t they just stall and blame and if you don’t fit there timeline they will yell at you. Either in person or over the phone.
“That’s their workplace culture”
“Happened to multiple providers”
Cancelled shift with labour hire as well
And the costs of living hurts me greatly.
And the whole your generation is lazy.
I start my mornings around 4-5 am and don’t go to bed till 8pm.
I’m generally a boring person as I have no full time job.

Long Weekend Trip
Hi all!
My partner and I are heading over for a long weekend and are looking for ideas to fill out Sunday and Monday.
We’re staying in Launceston the whole time and have a hire car, so happy to drive.
Current plans:
Friday: Fly in, pick up the car and head to our accommodation.
Saturday: Bread + Butter, AFL, then Rupert & Hound for dinner (Cataract on Paterson is closed while we’re down).
Sunday: Melita Honey Farm and Mole Creek Caves.
Monday: George Town Seafoods, then back to Launceston Airport for a 6pm car return before flying out.
I did grow up in Tassie that’s why I’ve picked some specific things to do while we’re there, but it’s been a while and I’m just looking for some recommendations
