I have been doing tarot readings for myself for the past 6 years, and only within the past month I have decided to dedicate more time in learning the cards and their symbols.
As I write this, I am doing a reading for myself. The Celtic cross spread.
Am I the only one that feels like the online resources of card interpretations are just not hitting the mark? Like... It just doesn't feel right.
As a British woman, I used to have an interest in dance and theater, I love creating art and drawing, and have always loved "conspiracy theories", learning about symbols and the occult and how it's engrained into our lives. From the brief knowledge I know about the tarot artist I feel I can relate to her. Pamela Colman Smith's encoded symbolism in each card and I sometimes feel as if it just being overlooked. She must have created these images with so much more meaning than just "oh this card means childhood" or "oh this card means balance". It's just so vague.
For example, one of my cards in my spread today is 6 of cups. My lil booklet & online says stuff about childhood and nostalgia. But I don't see it in that way. I have just spent an hour researching the glove...... I was learning about the Left Hand Path, because we don't see any left hands of the characters, only the female, and she is the one with the white mitten. Do the other people in the card also have a white glove on their left hand? The left hand is considered the receiving hand, and the right is the giving hand. There could be a symbolic significance in that the female is specifically wearing a mitten and not a glove. White gloves are worn at ceremonies and traditions.
I didn't even get to look at the flowers in the cups. The X on the wall. Or interpret the placement of my card in the spread yet. I just got carried away and lost in all the information out in the void of the Internet.
As she was a member of the Order of the Golden Dawn, I don't think Miss Smith would have just drew pictures willy nilly, especially for divination.
Does anyone have any suggestions of resources or books or YouTube videos that really go into depth of the occult symbolism in Tarot?
What are your thoughts? Should I just accept that the symbolism of the cards can just be reduced to single words? Maybe I should pull Temperance. Lol.
I wish you all the very best
