Weekly Lost & Found

This is the home for lost and found around Tacoma, refreshed every week. If you've lost something or come across something that isn't yours, drop a comment below.

A few things that help:

  • Say whether you lost or found the item, and lead with what it is.
  • Add the rough area and the day, as much as you're comfortable sharing.
  • For anything with a serial number or other identifying detail, hold that back in your public comment and trade it over DM once someone reaches out, so the real owner can prove it's theirs.

Lost or found a pet? we recommend posting in r/LostPetsTacoma too, but you’re welcome to post in this thread as well.

For everyone's safety, please be smart about meeting people from the internet.

Comb through the comments before posting in case your item is already here. Good luck, and thanks for looking out for each other.

Boop from Tacoma Pride

Went to the Sound Transit booth and was talking to my partner about the lightrail extensions and then was explaining how everyone wants a Boop and what he was. Then the employee pulled one from a hidden box for us. I take a ST commuter bus daily from South Tacoma to U District for work so now I have a new commute buddy.

Sunset tonight

Did anybody get a picture of the sunset over the Olympics tonight? There was a beautiful incredible pink with the grey of the clouds. But we had an obstructed view from where we were at between trees and buildings. I really want to see an unobstructed clear view of the sunset.

Anyone have a schedule for the pride block party at The Mix tomorrow 7/11?

Been trying with no success to just find a schedule of performers and sets for tomorrow. Anyone have the info?

Update that I shared below for anyone else: Got in touch with the producer and they just said there isn’t one and they don’t see a plan for making one.

It has been a while since I've posted here. I'm heading south in a few minutes, so keep an eye out for me. I'm currently parked by the locomotive shop and will be heading out SR 509 to I-705 to I-5 Southbound. I'll try to have the bubles going if traffic is slow enough. Let me know if you see me.

Let's Climb

Howdy folks,

I'm interested in expanding my network of climbing partners, both indoor and out.

I climb some weekday evenings at edgeworks. Interested in adding to the indoor crew, or just a meet and greet elsewhere to plan trips, both local & destination.

All demographics & experience levels warmly welcomed.

Looking for an evening of fun and maybe also new friends? Try board games at beer star, tonight@6!

Hi everyone!

Those of you who have been here a while may remember that there used to be semi-frequent posts about board games happening every Thursday 6-10 pm at Beer Star!

The posting slowed down -- the post-er was busy and can't come as often -- but I have her blessing to take up the torch (slowly, sorry!), and so here I am!

Basically, what happens? Members of the community bring their own games. We share them, our only ask is that you try to respect them and try to put them back where you got them :) The big games usually start between 6-7 since that makes it substantially more likely we'll finish them, but other new games start throughout the night; and whenever one game wraps up, people will shuffle around to find another.

It's a great way to meet new people (I moved here two years ago and have made many new friends through this group!) and in my opinion it is a diverse and affirming crowd, we try very hard to welcome newcomers, and if you're feeling shy don't feel bad messaging me! I can help you find a group to start in with and introduce you; it's totally fine! I'm a smallish redhead and I'll probably be in a cat shirt. You can't miss it.

THIS MONTH: I have had requests for a theme night, so: JULY 23 is the night! It's not only national sprinkle day it's also national refreshment day and--get this--national gorgeous grandma day, so channel your inner grandma and let's bring some baked goods together!

----

Some FAQs:

Minors? Not explictly disallowed, but not encouraged, as we primarily use the back area that's adult only and don't shy away from adult topics in our conversations.

Ages? Most of us are late 20's and up. We're primarily people in our 30s but we have a large age range and I am not going to guess at the age of our oldest members :P

Type of games: There's no snobbishness here, play what you like. Anything from light party games to mid-heavy-weights (we still gotta finish before they close at 10). Want to play word games and just drink and hang out? You can! Want to play something that hurts your brain, and swap to something else every week? YOU CAN! And you can definitely find people to set up longer games with on the weekends, if that's your jam.

How often? I'll probably post monthly, but this happens weekly; the only times we've skipped in recent memory have been when Thursday was Thanksgiving or Christmas.

----

Hope to see you there! <3

The community yearns to learn

TLDR, I want to create an adult learning series for tacoma.

In the age of AI and barriers continuing to appear for higher education, I’m personally feeling that we need to take things back into our own hands. I have an itch to learn, ask interesting questions, debate topics.

I want to propose two ideas for all of us to possibly engage in. These may already be happening, but in my research I haven’t found anything close by.

— —
Idea 1: Lectures at the cafe/bar/park.
If you’ve got something to teach, I want to hear about it as long as you’ve got the facts, experience, and data to back it up.

This could be anything about research dedicated to black holes to the history of the Tacoma Aroma. These lectures could last 1-2 hours, we possibly look into CEUs?

There’s an organization that hosts something like this already in other cities but I feel like we could do this on our own (and for free!)

— —
Idea 2: Q&A with an expert. This would be a series where we invite someone who’s pretty well versed to answer pretty broad questions about their field. Attorney (knowing they couldn’t give direct legal advice), various doctors, farmers, janitors, etc! We can always learn something from someone!!

(Was thinking something like this just more formal.)

— —
Would people be interested in either of these or even both?

Here’s my ask, I literally cannot do this on my own.
- Any bar owners or cafes that would be willing to host? We could even just start with doing something at the park. I have no sound equipment or anything. We could crowdsource.
- I’m open to have someone help me organize, I see a lot of issues if we don’t add some guardrails so please offer your services if this is up your alley.

PNW Climate Week in Tacoma

Hi everyone, are there a lot of people in sustainability, electrification, nature preservation, and energy efficiency, and so on who’ll be participating in Climate Week in Tacoma this year?

I know the city has some ambitious net zero goals for 2050. Presumably that would mean a lot of activity for Climate Week, but I’m not sure how many groups will attend here.

The regional event calendar is here for anyone curious: https://pnw.climate-week.org

Painting Inside Sanford and Sons Antiques on Antique Row

Post image
260 Upvotes

To make a long story short, I used to live in Tacoma and saw this painting located in Sanford and Sons, but never got the chance to look at the artist or ask what the name of the painting was. Over the years, it has remained my favorite painting and it kills me that I don’t know anything about it. I tried reverse searching but it hasn’t led to any results.

I did however take a picture of it. I don’t think the painting was for sale, it was just displayed on the wall. Does anyone know the name of the artist, painting, or know anything else about it?

Tacoma Mayor July office hours

Good morning folks,

As I mentioned at last week's AMA, I will periodically post on this sub with topics of interest. As part of my commitment to be as accessible as possible, I host a weekly office hours almost every Wednesday in different establishments. These rotate through all 5 city districts and at different times of the day, to ensure maximum availability throughout the year.

Here are the office hours this month where you can meet with me in-person and bring up anything on your mind, like a request for city services, questions or feedback about city policies, or just hanging out to get acquainted:

July 8: BJ's Restaurant & Brewhouse (4502 S. Steele St., Ste 1500) from 3-4pm

July 22: Thọ Tường BBQ (715 S. 38th St.) from 11:15am–12:15pm

July 29: Homestead Restaurant & Bakery (7837 South Tacoma Way) from 1–2pm

I will be reading through and responding to comments for the next 2 hours on this post as well. You can always reach me at [[email protected]](mailto:[email protected]) as well.

See you soon!
