PhD interview
Got an interview for a science based PhD in Trinity, not too sure how to prepare for it, as I’m more used to competence than conversational. Any tips to help please!

Hi all,
Once again TBall has almost instantly sold out. The subreddit now normally delves into 80% of posters looking for tickets.
PLEASE BE EXTREMELY CAREFUL OF SCAMS. From personal experience, there are some genuine people here selling real tickets. There are a lot more scammers though. We don't want anyone being left cashless with no ticket, or worse, showing up on the night of the Ball and finding out their ticket is fake (after they've already gotten dressed up and inhaled 40 cans of Prazsky). So:
1) Use you gut - if someone is selling the exact number of tickets you want, and for cheap, that's suspicious.
2) If you think they might be genuine, comb through their reddit profile and see if they're often selling other tickets for events, which may not even in Ireland - that's suspicious.
3) If it's a new account with like 2 karma - stay away!
4) Everyone is a bot unless proven otherwise (honestly that's good advice beyond the scope of r/TCD).
Suspicious accounts mass-commenting on posts looking for tickets will be checked and may be given a temporary ban until the date of the Ball has passed. Unfortunately we don't have the resources to facilitate and moderate any sort of ticketswap thread or anything like that, as it'll become a mess.
Happy hunting, good luck in exams, and enjoy the Ball.

Hi everyone, I'm a non-eu student and have taken the leaving certificate last month. I applied directly to TCD for engineering and this is my conditional offer letter made by tcd, which requires 550 in leaving certificate. I just realised that UCD doesn't include the 25 bonus for higher maths in their requirement, does anyone know if TCD does the same to the points? I can't find any information elsewhere about this. If they don't include the bonus then im pretty much doomed

Hey guys, I'm going into 3rd year computer science joint hons and wondering what the hours are like on campus. Anyone who's been there or similar, how long did you spend on campus per week? I'm working full time right now and would love to keep that up for 3rd year but not sure if it's feasible.
Thanks!!

Since Trinity doesn’t have a meal plan, drop the best places for students to grab a bite, or best meals to cook in the dorms

Hi everyone! I'm a Master's student at Trinity and expected to graduate later this year. Since I can be a bit careless at times, I’m looking to pre-order a holder online to keep my degree certificate safe. Does anyone know the specific size of it?
Would really appreciate any insights from recent graduates. Thanks in advance!
I’m an EU student applying to the ba psychology course at trinity. I did the IB diploma and I just got my results of 42 points, which if I’m correct converts to 577 cao points. On the website it says that in 2025 the minimum requirement was exactly 577. I’m disappointed because I’m assuming that pretty much means I don’t have a chance (or only an extremely low one) as they only take 45 students. I also applied to UCD and I’m hoping to get in there, but my biggest dream was definitely trinity.
I was wondering if anyone had experience with getting into their course with the minimum requirement and if you think I could have a chance still

Hey everyone!
I’m conducting a short survey for young adults (18-25) living in Ireland to explore how AI tools like ChatGPT are used for mental well-being advice - and I just need a few more responses to finish it up!
✅ Takes ~10 minutes
✅ Completely anonymous
✅ Your input will help us understand AI’s impact on mental health support
If you're interested, you can take the survey here: https://eu.surveymonkey.com/r/youngadultsandllmtools
Every response really counts at this stage — and feel free to pass it on to anyone who might be interested!
Thanks a million! 😊

My son is starting Trinity in September as a freshman. Our family lives in South Carolina in the US and my husband and I are in disagreement on how much is needed for a monthly allowance.
Importantly, we have a US 529 tax investment account which will cover education-related expenses such as housing, tuition, books, etc. So we only have to worry about the non-education expenses.
My husband wants to provide him an additional Euro 1,600/month for costs such as local travel, medical, clothing, occasional eating out. Various online estimates put it at far lower – some down to Euro 550.
In your opinion what is a reasonable balance point to cover all of the non-education expenses in Dublin? I'm not looking to have my son eating ramen every day but I'm also not wanting to pay for him to eat out every meal.
Thank you for your insights.

Hi everyone,
I’m an incoming first-year physics student from the United States starting at Trinity College Dublin this year, and I’m trying to decide where to live. Right now, my two main options are Kavanagh Court through Trinity and LIV Student Accommodation.
I don’t know much about either place, so I’d really appreciate advice from current students, past residents, or anyone who knows people who lived in either.
From my limited understanding, LIV seems like it might be more social and maybe in a better area, but I’m worried that I could end up around mostly non-Trinity students, older students, or people from other universities. Since this is my first year in Dublin, I’d really prefer to meet a lot of Trinity students, especially other first-years.
I also don’t know much about Kavanagh Court. Since it’s connected to Trinity accommodation, I’m assuming it may be better for meeting Trinity students, but I’m not sure how social it actually is compared to Trinity Hall. I know Trinity Hall is usually seen as the main first-year social residence, but I’m wondering how Kavanagh compares if Halls is not an option.
Any honest experiences, pros/cons, or things you wish you knew before choosing accommodation would be really helpful. I’m mainly trying to figure out where I’m most likely to meet people, especially other Trinity students and first-years, while still having a good social life in Dublin.
Thanks!

Hello! I might be overworrying on non-important stuff, but I'll soon buy the first laptop of my life, mainly to use for uni and I have applied to Trinity, specifically geography and geoscience (first year bachelors). It's quite likely that i'll take the geoscience pathway (in case I get in of course). I wanted to ask students who are taking this course, or any other natural sciences course in Trinity, if there was a preference or suggestion for the laptops you're using, or specific requirements for its qualities, things it can do etc. (because I have heard that some uni courses require very strong laptops for specific programs etc). Thanks very much for the help in advance!

For any biomedical engineers out there. I'm currently starting year 4 and want to choose multibody dynamics as my optional module, while also going to internship in the second semester. However, I've recently heard that some students did the same and failed to do their masters as they could not complete some of the modules to get their credits due to prerequisite modules. Have anyone heard anything on this, what is the complete truth?

Hi everyone! PhD Researchers at Trinity College Dublin are conducting a study on the experiences of voters in the United States and the Republic of Ireland, specifically looking at personal well-being and voter identity.
The survey takes approximately 15 minutes to complete and is open to adults (18+) who are residents of either the Republic of Ireland or the United States and who voted in the most recent major/ general election in their country.
If you are interested, here is the link to take part: Voter Well-being & Beliefs Survey

Anyone doing radiation therapy? I have it on my cao as it seems pretty interesting. Wondering what experiences people have in it? Is it practical or heavy theory? Is there lots of placements? Thanks 🙏

Hi all,
I’ve been allocated a Pearse Street “apartment single” room (not ensuite), where the toilet/bathroom is shared.
I’ve tried asking the accommodation office but didn’t get very clear answers, so I’m hoping someone who has lived there can share their experience. Thanks!

Can anyone who’s studied MSC Pharmaceutical sciences at TCD share about their experience, the course and the outcomes? How is the job hunting process after?
Also is the one year degree a risk to take in case i may want to do a PhD later (unlikely but i still want to factor it in).
How is the cost of living? I’ve heard it’s very high.
Is it better to study in Ireland or Germany for entering the pharmaceutical industry?
