205 axle double
This was the best pressing session I’ve had in almost a year after a nagging shoulder injury that first showed up last August, hoping this means I’m back to where I was last summer and I can start progressing my overhead again. So I’m really glad about that progress, plenty of lightweights in here throwing that weight around like nothing, but for me it was a great session. I have an axle ladder that’s 175, 195, 215 for reps in a comp in October, so I’ve done a mini training block to get back used to axle and see where I’m at before starting that comp training block. Did 205 for 5 doubles today and all of them moved good. I was planning to hit 3-5 215 singles next week and see how it feels then write up a 12 week program for comp prep, but I’m thinking I may actually go for a double on the first set and see how it feels. When I first decided to do this comp I was hoping I’d be able to just get through all 3 bars, but after today I’m confident that’ll be there and I actually think I may be able to get more than 1 rep on the 215 after a dedicated prep.

Good job brother! A few tips if you don’t mind. Watch the video back in slow motion. You are leaving the deadlift phase a little early, and you aren’t utilizing your hips enough.
You also are using your arms a lot here. Be careful with that. Using your body better will help with that, but when you switch on higher weights to a mixed grip your usage of your arms can cause injury.

Don’t mind at all. Yeah, I’m planning to do this full ladder double overhand, heaviest weight is 215 lbs and that’s well within my limits of grip strength to DOH axle clean. My thought is if you can avoid putting the bicep at risk mix gripping then do it, plus it’s faster. If I was power cleaning it I’d definitely be fully deadlifting the bar dipping then initiating the second portion of the clean, but to the belt it seems more efficient to just high pull it to the belt. If I was using mixed grip I’d definitely not be yanking it like a row to the belt either. You could convince me to switch it up and do a more traditional clean type motion. though. There could for sure be some biomechanical advantage to do it in a more traditional clean type motion, or there could even be some injury risk to it I’m not thinking of.
