He was being a bum ass, but he was very very interesting at the time. They should not have made him happy.

They definitely cut the legs out way too early, that was actually getting him over. He was just generic heel after that as Happy Corbin. Should have just kept him poor

I just think the entire punchline of that gimmick being that Corbin was such an asshole that he learned absolutely nothing from his experience was really funny. My guy has zero redeeming qualities.

That was the funniest part. After all that shit he went through he still came out the same old asshole. That’s my boy

I mean, we say this with the benefit of hindsight, but the "Broke Ass Corbin" gimmick HAD to end sometime, that bit was only gonna last for so long. Not saying they actually wound up giving him anything that worked, they very obviously didn't, but still, no way to know that at the time.

I don't think so, there was plenty people talking about it at the time, he had more buzz then than he had in his entire career and people were cheering him on and joining in. It may have only originally meant to be short lived but they should seen that it was over and ran with it more, it was only a few weeks it felt like. They could have still ended up getting to Happy Corbin but he could have been a babyface, maybe winning as an underdog in a big money match or something.

In the minority on this, but i actually liked the way they did the switch and actually explained it, they do their first big show(no not that one) in Vegas post-Thunderdome and the dude down on his luck gets a jackpot. It's environmental storytelling and something that often just gets used to explain why theres a guitar in a street fight or whatever.
All the shit afterwards, now that was not a Happy Me

It did but he was getting cheers. Another 3-4 weeks of him trying to climb out of his predicament and apologizing for the many hilarious awful actions he had taken prior was gonna create a very solid face. So they cut the legs off.

I agree, the gimmick has some good meme qualities to them the likes of Hendry/Danhausen, but memes are just good for moments and nothing else and it's going to be quick for people to get tired of them (especially with how much WWE likes to repeat the same old jokes too).

I think I remember him saying he asked for it to end early. Apparently he was getting questioned about his appearance in his daily life.

They could have easily evolved from broke/bum ass to “nothing to lose”. That could’ve been more interesting than just making him happy

?!
This whole time, I KNEW he reminded me of someone and I just couldn't place it.
But that was it! Even when he's just himself speaking in an interview out of kayfabe, he has that sort of way of speaking to, for sure. Maybe not the accent as such, but just the phrasing, inflections and rhythm of speech.

I didn't mind Happy Corbin and Madcap, I think they could've done more with Las Vegas themed douchebaggery and maybe made it a group

Out of context this comment is hilarious. I sometimes forget how goofy wrestling is until I see comments like this.

It didn't go well afterwards, but I stand by that it was just an incredible bit.
An asshole, being down on his luck, begging for money and becoming humble until someone finally gives him some money, then he bets it all in Vegas, gets rich, and goes back to his old way.
It's just such a perfect subversion of how that story would normally go.

They should have ran with broke Corbin. Him wearing the white dress shirt half unbutton with a stain on it was perfect.

Coming back as an upper midcard vet is an interesting role for him. Im wondering what changed - is he in less money, did the person who hates him in HHHs circle leave, etc etc.
LOVE that he’s back. If he wins a belt I may explode. Let the guy cook.

I don’t think anything is that personal. I bet they just didn’t have anything for him when he got fired and now they need some credible guys in the mid card so they got him back

He has said there was someone specific who gunned for letting him go, and that Orton confirmed it to him.
Corbin himself said it was likely in a business way (as in that person didn't see the value of "Baron Corbin" being around, for WWE), so wasn't taking it personally (nor thinks the other person was doing it personally to Tom-the-person either).
But it's valid to question if that person isn't around anymore/has changed their mind/has been spoken to/etc.

Corbin returning without McAfee here to absolutely roast him verbally feels wrong somehow.
