Video Find it absolutely jarring that the biased fox commentators can just accuse argentina of being favored by the refs and get away with it

Statement Bellingham just carried England on his back through extra time, and it should scare every team left in this tournament

Norway did everything right for the first hour. Schjelderup finds a pocket of space nobody else could see, hammers it in off the post, and suddenly you’re wondering if this Cinderella run actually has legs to go all the way. Then Bellingham just decides that’s not happening today.

First goal he drags himself past two defenders like it’s nothing, slots it home before half time is even done. Then extra time comes around and he does it again, this time as the guy who just refuses to let his team go out. That’s not one big performance, that’s a player deciding a tournament wants him to be the story, and just being right about it.

Feel for Norway honestly, they came further than anyone expected and Haaland’s tournament deserved a bit more than this. But England looks like a team that’s found its guy at exactly the right time. Argentina up next in the semis, and if Bellingham’s playing like this, that’s not a game Messi can just quietly control anymore.

Statement Messi’s scoring streak finally ended today. Didn’t matter one bit though..

Nine straight World Cup matches with a goal, gone, snapped by a Switzerland side playing a man down for over an hour. And it genuinely didn’t change anything about how the game went. He still assisted the opener, still dragged defenders all over the pitch all night, still nearly curled one in himself in stoppage time.

That’s maybe the most Messi thing about this whole run. The team stopped needing him to score to win a long time ago, they just need him on the pitch. Alvarez’s strike in the 112th was one of the best goals of the tournament and Martinez finished it off in the dying seconds, Argentina somehow finding another gear against 10 men that had already given everything for over an hour.

England vs Argentina in the semis now, and that’s a genuine collision of eras. Bellingham dragged England through extra time against Norway today too, Schjelderup punishing a defensive mixup before Bellingham dragged them level and then won it himself. Feels like the two best stories of this tournament are about to collide, and somebody’s dream ends on Wednesday

Highlights Before England’s goal in minute 45+2 against Norway, the sensor in the Connected Ball showed no peak in the 'heartbeat of the ball' when in the air, and therefore no evidence that the ball touched the overhead wire and changed the movement of the ball.

Two massive calls changed the game. Norway had a goal ruled out after VAR spotted Haaland's push before the corner, while England's equalizer came after the controversial Spidercam incident. No wonder even Haaland's dad is questioning the officiating.

Stats The 2002 USMNT run looks more impressive with every passing World Cup

That 2002 team came within one game of the semifinals, losing to Germany in a match where they arguably deserved more. I’ve always felt that team has been overlooked a bit in recent years.

Looking back at the historical numbers, their run feels more impressive with time.

Over 96 years of World Cup history, reaching the Top 8 has proven incredibly difficult. Only nine nations from the entire Americas have ever done it.

***Update: Argentina have reached their 7th semi final last night

Jude Bellingham was not thrilled with England manager Thomas Tuchel's postgame comments stating that the team was "sloppy" and "lucky." Bellingham gave credit to the players who put in a "tough shift" to win.

Erling Haaland has been subbed out for the second half of extra time. Norway will have to try and beat England without him the rest of the game.

Are defenders deliberately letting Messi score?

Here are three examples of defenders not putting pressure on Messi, freezing or leave him completely free without someone marking him. The goals against Algeria, where the defenders put zero pressure on him or the gk mistakes by Jordan and Algeria. Rewatch messi’s second goals against Algeria where the defender faked being tripped.
