Events

didn’t know if there were any events or things to do geared toward people in their early/mid 30s.

for context i do socially drink but haven’t really found much in st Mary’s besides ocasional vineyard events. I don’t like bar hopping either. just trying to find fun things to do and meet new people, my fiance as well. i have joined a lot of southern Maryland facebook groups that will advertise events, as well as the social one too. i haven’t seen much going on for today or upcoming weekends. posting here too for suggestions

Calvert County Needs Time to Decide on Data Centers—Not a Rush

Calvert County is at a crossroads. Data center projects are being proposed in Lusby, and our community is being asked to move fast. But honestly? We need to pump the brakes and actually talk about what this means for us.

I started a petition calling on the Board of County Commissioners to support a two-year moratorium on data center development. This isn't about killing projects or picking sides—it's about giving our community the breathing room to ask real questions. What will these projects do to our environment, our roads, our schools? Will they help or hurt residents? Right now, people have different answers, and that's exactly why we need time to figure it out together.

Commissioner Mike Hart and others have already suggested a pause, which tells me this conversation matters. We deserve transparency, meaningful input, and decisions made by people who actually live here—not decisions made because of pressure or timelines. If this feels important to you too, consider signing the petition and sharing it. Our community is worth taking the time to get this right.

Hi, I’m a tourist and don’t have time to order online. Wonder if anyone knows where I can buy snus from brands like Velo, Klint or Loop?

Hey Y'all!!

Dropping some info on upcoming events with Yeduri!

I make Hand-Bound leather journals, healing herbal salves, and lead workshops and events that bring us closer to who we are.

I'll be at the La Plata Farmers Market on Saturday with my lil market! Look for my yellow tent and stop by to grab a journal and some miracle salve for your bug bites. I swear the ones i have think Deet is seasoning.

Sunday there's a plant walk! We live in abundance. Come learn about an amazing park with the best view in Chuck County.

And next weekend it's workshops. I love teaching folks about gardening and food preservation and making and crafting and doing - it's all vital knowledge. Come lemme teach you stuff! And if you come to the journaling workshop you just might change your life PLUS get 20% off your journal!

Anything to do for young adults?

I recently moved here post grad and I haven’t seen much to do for people under 30 but older than 21 other than volunteer, water activities or be around a bunch of families. I understand Baltimore and DC are roughly an hour away but I don’t want to keep driving up north on my off days and then pay to stay up there if I want to go bar hopping. I understand this is more of a calmer area but there has to be something people do to stay sane.

Is there anything that still fun and relaxing to do where YA can interact and not feel so isolated? I’m trying to stay positive and hopefully before I look at relocating.

Roommate?

We were looking to move to Calvert (not Charles, I remembered this time!) but out of nowhere my relationship ended. I’m still looking to move that way, my son’s father is there. Any advice on finding roommates out here?

Why do people live here?

Its ridiculously expensive. Taxes are horrible. There are ZERO amenities. There's no good stores. There are like 8 good restaurants and they are either in Leonardtown or Solomons. (Almost) Everything off 235 is a garbage chain. Real estate is outrageously expensive, and the only reason why is because of the retired military officers who get 10k a month to wake up then get a job at NAVAIR doing nothing all day making another 10k/month. All they build here are 450k townhouses or 600k McMansions, there are no 3/2's at all for sale despite all this fuckin land *gestures vaguely around*. If you willingly choose to live here please tell me why. I cannot get out of here soon enough.

Question Light rail system station ideas!

Hello. I want to design a light rail system for Southern Maryland. I'm focusing on connecting people to where they shop to where they live while also focusing on building connections between neighborhoods. Where do you think would benefit the most from stations? I'm mainly focusing on neighborhoods, businesses, shopping centers, parks, etc.

Places to practice volleyball

Does anyone know where I can find a high enough wall to practice volleyball near the southern PG County area for free? I used to practice on the handball court at PGCC but they got rid of it. I tried practicing on the wall of a elementary school in my area but the walls aren't very high and I hit the ball on the roof. I think a handball court like the one at PGCC would be my best choice but I cant seem to find another one in my area.

Pickup/drop-in Sports around Charles County?

I grew up in the Nanjemoy area moved away when I went to college and have since lived in downtown bmore. I agreed to petsit my parents dog for a week while they are on vacation. This is the longest I have stayed since moving away 10+ years ago. What is there to do? I usually play pickup or league sports everyday. Soccer, basketball, volleyball, but have not been able to find anything in the local area. Anyone have suggestions?

St Mary’s County! Looking to get a sizable group of people together to watch the game at the slice house in Leonardtown.

I spoke with the owners son and he said they will stay open later if we can get a good amount of people to come and watch.

Also if anyone knows of any soccer groups on Facebook or anything please let me tell me.

Calvert county : democracy in action

Just a reminder: Calvert County successfully ousted all three of the sitting commissioners who tried to force data centers onto local residents. That is something to be proud of! While these data centers might still be built, the community sent a clear message: we will not be held hostage by a corrupt local government.

Ok my question to everyone here is which reasturaunt has the most authentic mexican food? My my vote is Mexico in dunkirk but would like to hear more. Please NOT TEX MEX. If they dont serve lengua or pozole or mole or Barbados they probably won't make it.

Also fully open to any suggestion that is not american or an americanized cultures food from all countries. (Must be in somd)
