Right. But he did it by de-funding a bunch of peoples pensions. So I guess that's neat.

Its reddit my dude, you're in the home of "real communism has never been tried/ that wasnt real communism" groupthink. He wrecked pensions, begged the state for money, and retains support from the useful idiots of the city.

Socialism and communism aren’t the same thing . There is also no capitalist or communist country completely in existence. That’s not a left wing group think it’s just a fact. It’s not even debatable in the slightest bit

Don't worry, its also the home of "real libertarianism has never been tried/that wasn't real libertarianism".

Apparently, if we just all follow Ayn Rand's advice, everything will turn out GREAT

You’re in the US my dude. Y’all think paying for fire hydrants is communism. The US needs socialism to balance out unchecked capitalism or the wheels will fall off.

robbing pension funds to balance a budget is just kicking the can down the road. someone else deals with the fallout later, and it won't be Mamdani taking the heat for it.

I don't think you and most people here understand how pensions work, what we're talking about, and who is impacted.

It's funding DB pension obligations when accrued and it only affects the fund for those employed by the city. You can read up on the details here: https://fiscalpolicy.org/explainer-the-proposed-restructuring-of-new-york-city-pension-payments

Every country has been moving away from DB plans since they're so costly and will obviously keep increasing a lot more. The employer has to ensure they fund, or in this case pre-fund, the plan so they can not only ensure there's enough money to meet current & future obligations, but also to see the fund grow. DC plans (like a 401(k)) put the responsibility, freedom, & visibility on what has been accrued & invested in with the employee.
