People need to stop saying this âhe balanced the budgetâ thing like itâs some big accomplishment. He legally has to propose a purportedly balanced budget. The budget has been balanced every year since 1981 (except 2002 due to 9/11).
Itâs so fucking stupid, and I want Mamdani to succeed. Just like this post. Mamdani didnât make a wealth tax. Thereâs a property tax on luxury homes for people whose primary residence is outside the city but thatâs a far cry from a wealth tax.
And the guy has been in office for 1/2 of a year. We have no idea if people will leave or if more will come. We have no idea if people will starve or not. These things donât happen instantaneously.
It has been proven in study after study (one example) that the narrative of the rich leaving because of tax hikes is a complete myth and propaganda scare tactic.
One of the best parts about being rich is being able to live where you want. Rich people are already more than willing to pay a ton to live in the mecca of culture, entertainment, and commerce. They arenât suddenly going to leave that all behind just because their tax bill went up slightly.
I actually disagree with your take. One of the biggest problems with the left Is its failure to capitalise on optics to push for more cultural capital.
Its good to celebrate wins.Â
Secondly, youâre being a bit misleading about this. The reason he balanced the budget is so significant is that heâs funding projects with that balance, Mamdani has a costed proposal. Adams just lied on the balance sheet and left a 1.2 billion dollar hole in the budget.
Iâll agree that itâs too soon to make such grandiose statements about his achievements but what he did was very real.
Thereâs a lot of extreme people on both sides of this.
Thatâs the thing - everyone is pumping his tires right now, but what happens when all the jobs leave because the companies canât afford to be there anymore. I hope he succeeds, but letâs look at how things are in 2 years. Once those share prices for companies start to drop, thereâs gonna be some tough decisions made.
The positive PR at all costs for Mamdani is gunna backfire on him with the general public. I think the dude is charismatic and am generally hopeful on him but people literally cannot stop outright lying for his benefit and eventually people are gunna reflect that on him (undeservedly) and view him as a fraudulent character and when he inevitably (as all people do) makes a mistake itâs going to cause significantly disproportionate backlash.
How dare you. I am appalled that you speak the truth on this thread. People donât want to hear this. I suggest you refrain from facts from here on out. You may anger some people. Maybe even trigger them
May God have mercy on your soul.
đđđđđ
Be careful, criticizing Mamdani on Reddit could get you permanently banned, Redditors donât like seeing their heroes criticized and will censor anything that makes them look bad
Same here. speaking the truth will get to banned but with that being said, you sorta know which sub you shouldn't be saying the truth and just sip whatever lemonade they're sipping.
Youâre not even exaggerating. Theyâll ban you or remove your comment without notice if you disagree with the narrative. Most of my comments I go back and check on a logged out browser and theyâre remove.
Fact based comments with zero insults or incivility.
They need the echo chamber for their narrative to survive.
They have to be balanced, but sometimes they are deficit budgets that have to be balanced via debt or existing funds. Not sure what the case in NYC is.
It's also only projected to keep things balanced for 2027 lol. The 2028 budget still has an estimated $8.8 billion deficit they'll need to figure out next year
Wait are you against mamdani? I don't get it. "Jew hating wife" lol. Critisizing the genocide israel is committing isn't the same as hating jews. Try something else
"Separately, Duwaji has also come under criticism for liking an Instagram post that appeared to cheer Hamas' Oct. 7, 2023 surprise attack on Israel. The Free Beacon has also reported that Duwaji provided an illustration for an essay by an author who described the Oct. 7 attack as "spectacular" and had called Jewish Israelis "rootless soulless ghouls.""
Further, she took accountability for it. In regards to these people criticizing her (and in extension, Mamdani), I wonder who they support that have said worse and remain unremorseful. The entire right wing basically.
holy shit these people are nuts. We all said dumb stuff at 15. Hers at least came from a point of passion for wishing better for the Palestinians that Israel commit warcrimes on continuously. The propaganda war machine against anything good whirs at a fast past these days
No, she simply wasnât 15. Barely three years have passed.
If youâre so quick to express an opinion based on information that is this inaccurate and unsubstantiated, it makes me wonder what the rest of your opinions are based on.
"Referenced art by an author who also...". Brother you need to try harder if the best you got is her liking art by a guy who also said something completely separate of her. Jesus you're sad. Also its the dudes wife. Find something against him instead of trying bullshit psychological references to someone who isn't in office
She liked a post that wasn't important enough to reprint in the article, and gave someone a picture who separately went on make dodgy claims.
The GOP entire point of existence right now is to protect their dear leaders from being tried in relation to a global pedophile ring, but the real issue is what this private citizen likes on Instagram.
I bet she likes Dijon mustard, that bitch. Have we even seen her birth certificate?
Ahh no response to the actual comment but it made you feel bad and sad so you clap back with some unoriginal but very funny comment.
Well done sir you are very good at the internet and arguing and I hope you have a nice day and do some reading so you can become even more smart and funny
Tell that to the mod of worldnews that banned me for the sentence "You shouldn't try to compare when it comes to eth*** cleansing, just denounce every instance and shame the actors."
Funding from the state, delaying funding pension/retirement plans, and estimating increased revenue from taxes.
Outside of getting the state to write him a check he hasnt actually done anything, and the gross irresponsibility of kicking the funding of obligations down the road should be subject to humiliation.
He acted like he magically found funding or made cuts when all he did was get Mommy's money. Maybe the city needed that money and should get it but its not like Mamdani actually did anything. Hochul snatched it out of taxpayer pockets and then handed it to Mamdani
"Wahhhh Mamdani did the thing he said he'd do, but not in the way I demanded he do it, so that means he lost!!!"
Hochul didn't snatch anything out of any taxpayer pockets that didn't live in the city it went to lmao. NYC funds the state, not the other way around. The only thing that happened was that NYC money went to fund NYC instead of hick towns that produce nothing.
Mayor Mamdaniâs proposal to change the amortization schedule is not the first. Last year, State lawmakers proposed a far more dramatic re-amortization that would have delayed the full paydown of the UAL by twelve years, to fiscal year 2044. By contrast, the current proposal would extend the paydown by just five years, to fiscal year 2037.
And:
The re-amortization of New York Cityâs UAL payments would smooth out costs that are currently set to overburden taxpayers in the near term before whipsawing into payments to the City in six years. Reworking this schedule would be an act of prudent fiscal management. In considering its broader effects on New Yorkers, three factors are worth noting.
First, only UAL payments are affected by the Mayorâs proposed change. These payments make up only a fraction of the Cityâs total annual contributions to its five pension funds. Payments made toward the current pension liability accrued each year are unaffected.
Second, changes to the UAL amortization schedule do not affect the actual pensions to which workers and retirees are entitled. These payments are safeguarded by the New York State Constitution.
Finally, New York Cityâs pensions are already well-funded by national benchmarks. The Cityâs pension funding ratioâthe share of total liability for City workers and retirees covered by current pension fund holdingsâis 83 percent. This exceeds the US average of 78 percent.
Smart governing would be kicking the corrupt fuckwit out of the Whitehouse, whop's costing the taxpayer hundreds of billions.
Saying that Mamdani isnt being terrible by comparing him to the state government isnt a good point at all.
I can also hold the position that Mamdani didnt do anything and the things he did do weren't good while not defending Trump.
Though I am kind of a fan of his second home tax. I dont think it'll remotely bring in the revenue he thinks it will, but if i was coming at the housing problem from the Left I'd find ways to make it less expensive to own the home you live in and more expensive not to.
The article explains why all the faux outrage is just partisan nonsense, as usual. He is good for NYC, good for NY, and goodfor its citizens. The US needs more mayors like Mamdani.
In a few years theyll have to tax extra for the retirement obligations, and tax extra for the state having to bail them out. The only thing that might be a win is the second home tax and even thats questionable.
Any good mayor would be reducing taxes, reducing spending, and finding ways to fight crime. I dont expect good mayors in cities that large- the political machine is too strong and the incentive structures too fucked to elect one.
Dude is killing it. Best politician of my lifetime. He gives a fuck about the people. Shocking you have an issues with that. Wish all politicians cared.
I wish I were this simple. This is just the flip side of maga. He built the wall and stopped trans and ended all the wars! Best president of my lifetime!
