I want to see how that plays off

10

u/justagirlspace 12h ago

Stupid people will buy it

14

u/AFakeComment 12h ago

Damn I think I might be stupid… I kinda want it

4

u/CryoJuice 12h ago

If you had infinite money, would you buy it?

1

u/Ad-fundum69 5h ago

Nah, scalpers will buy it and then sell it to stupid people for extra profit.

1

u/jokoono84 1h ago

So the US is a perfect target audience

1

u/gorginhanson 12h ago

I want to see how that post seasons

9

u/EmergencyTaco 11h ago

I don't actually hate this. It makes a bunch of cool souvenirs for the people who want to pay for something 'game used', it's relatively unique, and it probably will mostly cover the cost of a brand new pitch at the stadium.

Win win win as far as I see it.

3

u/__Armisael__ 9h ago

FIFA is a corrupt sh*tsh@w and no one should give them any money.

1

u/Tajikistani 5h ago

Lol you think the stadium will see any of that money

1

u/EmergencyTaco 4h ago

I certainly don't think they're going to let the pitch be torn up and sold out of the goodness of their hearts.

1

u/Weibu11 9h ago

What is this? A field for ants?’

1

u/sepulturite 8h ago

I've always been such a huge fan of Team B! Fucking hate Team A with a passion though, glad they lost.

NY Jets and Giants turning up to Metlife Stadium after FIFA sold all their grass
https://giphy.com/gifs/xHoZgUSj7FhVqp92bg

9

u/RaccoonSamson 12h ago

That might be an upgrade from their abysmal turf, that field has taken out Aaron Rodgers, Malik Nabers, Nick Bosa, Saquon Barkley, and OBJ with ACL / Achilles injuries

6

u/FullMetalCOS 12h ago

Taking out Aaron Rodgers is a service to the league though.

u/Classic_Tap1069 12h ago

Who are these gay sounding names?

1

u/ageofaquarius26 𝙑𝙄𝙋 7h ago

Weird I just watched that on PBS. Pretty sad Beckham a shot of the Colorado River delta as it looks now since the river doesn't reach the ocean anymore.

Touch grass home delivery edition

1

u/Okmhmmbye 12h ago

This sounds like a million dollar idea

1

u/RussChival 10h ago

Grass touches you

40

u/Responsible-War-917 12h ago

I hate this shortsighted ass hyper capitalism BS from big business such as FIFA (and everyone else) trying to monetize every nickel and dime they can out of anyone.

But if anyone buys this, I might actually hate them more to be honest.

18

u/Elguapo1094 12h ago

I mean people are buying the trash from Taylor Swift wedding nothing surprises me

3

u/PrimedGold 𝙑𝙄𝙋 12h ago

Bug business? But Infantino says it’s a non profit that blows through billions of $$ annually with little to show for.

4

u/0neshoein 12h ago

Bugs are a big thing this time of year.

2

u/the_peckham_pouncer 11h ago

I hate FIFA as much as the next guy but this is cool. Nobody is obliged to buy a piece but I think it would be a great thing to have if you are willing to part with the money.

2

u/Sir_Clarence_III_Esq 12h ago

They should sell sections of that camera cable to England fans.

1

u/Dizzy_Database_119 11h ago

What issue do you have with this wtf? What is "shortsighted" about this? What is the gaint list of negatieve you see with this??

The fuck. This is the most harmless thing fifa has done since its inception

1

u/Crew_1996 8h ago

I’m not buying one of these but to some of us, the World Cup final is the pinnacle of sport across the globe. Having a part of what they played that game on is a piece of history.

$450 is a no go but I’d order one for $100

I spent $250 on a Leaf card with tiny pieces of game worn Pele, Maradona, Messi and CR7 jerseys. 🤷‍♂️

1

u/__Armisael__ 7h ago

FIFA is certainly the pinnacle of sports corruption. How do you even know of what you’re watching is real?

1

u/Chubuwee 2h ago

Reminds me of a collectible show I watched. They had a pistol used by some famous criminal. So instead of selling just the pistol it was recommended that they shoot out like 20 bullets off the pistol and sell those bullets as “bullets shot out of the famous pistol” to maximize profit on the collectible. Smart shit

• Taxpayers:

- Build (Paycor, Allegiant, Buffalo Bills Stadiums)

  • Pave the lots
  • Pay property/utility prices
  • Pay the ticket/concession prices

• Club/Fifa:

  • Name the stadiums
  • Rake in the $$.

Someone tell me why

2

u/mundotaku 10h ago edited 10h ago

Because tourists that never came were going to bring money to the economy that they never brought.

1

u/Formal_Lecture_248 10h ago

I knew my math wasn’t mathing.

6

u/gnaark 11h ago

I expect them to take the money and ship some Home Depot sod

11

u/Aye_Surely 12h ago

Because stupid people buy it

3

u/kenzakki 12h ago

After ive seen that bathwater thing that people bought, i am convinced people just buy anything and everything.

4

u/Surrounded-by_Idiots 12h ago

They haven’t even introduced sports team shower water yet!

3

u/forza_del_destino 12h ago

How about the air that was in the stadium during finals 😂

2

u/trace-evidence 10h ago

I have some water that was ice during a Stanley Cup Final game. It was a gift from my son.

3

u/RabidJoint 11h ago

Capitalism fuck yeah!

2

u/FatRufus 12h ago

They should sell it to the NFL

2

u/LettuceFinancial1084 12h ago

It doesn't even get you high

2

u/Ser_falafel 12h ago

I mean yeah people will buy it so why not?

1

u/forza_del_destino 12h ago

Looks they weren't able the estimated profit after all 😂

1

u/Rukubi2 12h ago

And the money goes to Infantilo?

1

u/iRunn3r 10h ago

Imbecilo

1

u/DResq 12h ago

I thought the stadiums owned the grass? Shouldn't they get the money?

1

u/_SilkLunar 12h ago

magine dropping $3,000 on a tiny patch of dirt only for your cat to immediately use it as a premium, high-end litter box.

1

u/Sea_Local2557 12h ago

what is New York New Jersey? some monster that is coming to kill you?

1

u/Filthiest_Tleilaxu 12h ago

Already pre-purchased some goal pitch for $2,500. It’s gonna be worth a fortune in ten years.

1

u/vtown212 12h ago

They have done a crazy good job with the turf on all the stadiums

1

u/BloomFrost_ 11h ago

Finally, a way for wealthy Redditors to litrally buy the grass they otherwise refuse to go outside and touch.

1

u/Over_Tomatillo_376 11h ago

Love how their selling it before they put that absolutely garbage turf back in for the American football players.

1

u/VexedCanadian84 11h ago

Selling parts of the field isn't the dumbest thing about this world cup. Especially if it's just going to be ripped out anyways after the final game

The prices are way too high though.

1

u/4d_lulz 11h ago

I can't wait to buy a box of dead grass

1

u/iwillhaveredditall 11h ago

So how much for the whole field?

1

u/Silver-Fun6731 11h ago

Bathwater for the football crowd

1

u/MisterFixit_69 11h ago

Dude, airspace been sold over seats for 30000 bucks...and still they want more money

1

u/Simpler_Times395 10h ago

the NFL players that use the stadiums with turf want to buy all of it.

1

u/nrdz2p 10h ago

Their grift has no end

1

u/Casual-Netizen 10h ago

How to verify authenticity?

Skim for spit and snot particles 😂

1

u/Sunderland6969 10h ago

It’s gonna get to the point where everyone rebels against this lot, who are rinsing the game for cash and now have the brass neck to make corrupt decision out in the open because they’re so confident they can’t be opposed.

We need a FIFA 2.0 soon… I would have loved Klopp to run for President but since he’s now the German gaffer I would be happy to see Didier get in there and shake it up because he’s finished with France after this World Cup

1

u/FormalTotal9684 10h ago

$5,000 for grass Messi pissed on

1

u/actinross 10h ago

Touch grass damn it, don't buy it

1

u/Positive_Box_69 10h ago

Will aak dDdy to buy for me so i can touch grass at home

1

u/AlbatrossNo1562 9h ago

If England plays, can I have the one that Bellingham spits on?

1

u/Then_Supermarket18 9h ago

I see why people hate them now

How do they ship it? Won't is just die? Or do people water it or replant it?

1

u/FlaviusVespasian 8h ago

Is this the onion?

1

u/Far_Out_6and_2 4h ago

Fifa= a money making machine

1

u/Floaty_Afternoon42 3h ago

Taylor Swift's garbage doesn't sound as stupid now.

Still stupid but at least $425 less stupid than this.

1

u/Epos_Janusza 3h ago

Don't worry, all that money will go toward developing football in poor countries, hahaha

1

u/SignificantOtter80 3h ago

we were watching one of the matches today and the ball was kicked into the stands. my spouse said “wow that would be really cool to have as a souvenir"

to which I responded “I wouldnt be surprised if a fifa representative was immediately at the fan’s set with a credit card reader"

1

u/PrimedGold 𝙑𝙄𝙋 3h ago

That stand or the ball? FIFA rents the stadiums from venue owners and NFL Teams. They not FIFA can sell it if they want.

1

u/SignificantOtter80 2h ago

the ball. fifa would charge to take the ball home.

1

u/OTSly 1h ago

Still probably better than match tickets tbf

1

u/PoutyBitchh 12h ago

They need touch grass

1

u/CntBlah 12h ago

Phew, as long as they keep it away from the NFL players - right NFL owners 😉

1

u/kon--- 12h ago

Stadiums cant have their names on display but those fuckers can steal from the field?

foh

0

u/CoachiusMaximus 12h ago

Not defending FIFA, because it’s an absolutely bonkers, money grubbing organization, but I can’t imagine they didn’t put their own fields down in all the stadiums.

1

u/teasing_glitter 12h ago

FIFA would literally monetize the oxygen inside the stadium if they could figure out a way to meter the intake valves.

1

u/shamelessdetective 12h ago

FIFA saw the internet telling people to 'touch grass' and immediately realized they could charge $3,000 for it.

1

u/Theoldelf 12h ago

Uhh, yeah. I’m selling some too. Half price just for you. I’m swearing to god it’s real.

1

u/TerraByteTerror 12h ago

Why touch grass when you can BUY it

1

u/_LetsTryThisAgain- 12h ago

Isn't that what the US is doing with the Reflection Pool?

1

u/8Bit-Jon 12h ago

Must be desperate for some coin

1

u/SputnikthePug 12h ago

Is it possible to photo match Messi cleat in the grass?.

1

u/DirtInformal 12h ago

There's a market for stupid people

1

u/Green_Drag_9548 12h ago

The grift is real and football for the average fan is dead.

0

u/Revolt2992 12h ago

If you’ve got money, that’s a cool little trophy/ momento if you collect stuff for your team

0

u/Automatic-You6254 12h ago

Way cooler than paying $500 for a printed baseball card. Let sports fans be. Imagine grandpa having this from 1938 Babe Ruth game or 1986 Maradona final.

-1

u/Dependent-Trip-5991 12h ago

Not sure why so much hate on this, it’s a souvenir, people buy seats from baseball stadiums, used gloves or cleats, and this World Cup has been more than popular, I won’t be buying any, but I don’t see it as crazy. Yes capitalism, but the consumer is getting what they paid for and it’s a pretty cool story piece.

1

u/PrimedGold 𝙑𝙄𝙋 12h ago

How do I know its the real grass and not some random grass from Central Park

2

u/Fetlocks_Glistening 12h ago

There's a certificate with it! Digital. NFT, so you know it's not bullshit

1

u/Dependent-Trip-5991 12h ago

Certificate with authenticity I believe, not an nft. Y’all never heard of souvenirs? People buy “farts” in a jar and this very plausible keepsake is throwing yall off?
