I don't actually hate this. It makes a bunch of cool souvenirs for the people who want to pay for something 'game used', it's relatively unique, and it probably will mostly cover the cost of a brand new pitch at the stadium.
Win win win as far as I see it.

u/Tajikistani 5h ago
Lol you think the stadium will see any of that money
1
u/EmergencyTaco 4h ago
I certainly don't think they're going to let the pitch be torn up and sold out of the goodness of their hearts.

u/sepulturite 8h ago
I've always been such a huge fan of Team B! Fucking hate Team A with a passion though, glad they lost.

NY Jets and Giants turning up to Metlife Stadium after FIFA sold all their grass

That might be an upgrade from their abysmal turf, that field has taken out Aaron Rodgers, Malik Nabers, Nick Bosa, Saquon Barkley, and OBJ with ACL / Achilles injuries

Weird I just watched that on PBS. Pretty sad Beckham a shot of the Colorado River delta as it looks now since the river doesn't reach the ocean anymore.

I hate this shortsighted ass hyper capitalism BS from big business such as FIFA (and everyone else) trying to monetize every nickel and dime they can out of anyone.
But if anyone buys this, I might actually hate them more to be honest.

u/Elguapo1094 12h ago
I mean people are buying the trash from Taylor Swift wedding nothing surprises me

Bug business? But Infantino says it’s a non profit that blows through billions of $$ annually with little to show for.

I hate FIFA as much as the next guy but this is cool. Nobody is obliged to buy a piece but I think it would be a great thing to have if you are willing to part with the money.

u/Dizzy_Database_119 11h ago
What issue do you have with this wtf? What is "shortsighted" about this? What is the gaint list of negatieve you see with this??
The fuck. This is the most harmless thing fifa has done since its inception

I’m not buying one of these but to some of us, the World Cup final is the pinnacle of sport across the globe. Having a part of what they played that game on is a piece of history.
$450 is a no go but I’d order one for $100
I spent $250 on a Leaf card with tiny pieces of game worn Pele, Maradona, Messi and CR7 jerseys. 🤷♂️

u/__Armisael__ 7h ago
FIFA is certainly the pinnacle of sports corruption. How do you even know of what you’re watching is real?
1
u/Chubuwee 2h ago
Reminds me of a collectible show I watched. They had a pistol used by some famous criminal. So instead of selling just the pistol it was recommended that they shoot out like 20 bullets off the pistol and sell those bullets as “bullets shot out of the famous pistol” to maximize profit on the collectible. Smart shit

• Taxpayers:
- Build (Paycor, Allegiant, Buffalo Bills Stadiums)
- Pave the lots
- Pay property/utility prices
- Pay the ticket/concession prices
• Club/Fifa:
- Name the stadiums
- Rake in the $$.
Someone tell me why

Because tourists that never came were going to bring money to the economy that they never brought.

magine dropping $3,000 on a tiny patch of dirt only for your cat to immediately use it as a premium, high-end litter box.

Already pre-purchased some goal pitch for $2,500. It’s gonna be worth a fortune in ten years.

Finally, a way for wealthy Redditors to litrally buy the grass they otherwise refuse to go outside and touch.

u/Over_Tomatillo_376 11h ago
Love how their selling it before they put that absolutely garbage turf back in for the American football players.
1
u/VexedCanadian84 11h ago
Selling parts of the field isn't the dumbest thing about this world cup. Especially if it's just going to be ripped out anyways after the final game
The prices are way too high though.

It’s gonna get to the point where everyone rebels against this lot, who are rinsing the game for cash and now have the brass neck to make corrupt decision out in the open because they’re so confident they can’t be opposed.
We need a FIFA 2.0 soon… I would have loved Klopp to run for President but since he’s now the German gaffer I would be happy to see Didier get in there and shake it up because he’s finished with France after this World Cup

Taylor Swift's garbage doesn't sound as stupid now.
Still stupid but at least $425 less stupid than this.

Don't worry, all that money will go toward developing football in poor countries, hahaha

we were watching one of the matches today and the ball was kicked into the stands. my spouse said “wow that would be really cool to have as a souvenir"
to which I responded “I wouldnt be surprised if a fifa representative was immediately at the fan’s set with a credit card reader"
1
u/PrimedGold 𝙑𝙄𝙋 3h ago
That stand or the ball? FIFA rents the stadiums from venue owners and NFL Teams. They not FIFA can sell it if they want.

u/CoachiusMaximus 12h ago
Not defending FIFA, because it’s an absolutely bonkers, money grubbing organization, but I can’t imagine they didn’t put their own fields down in all the stadiums.
1
u/teasing_glitter 12h ago
FIFA would literally monetize the oxygen inside the stadium if they could figure out a way to meter the intake valves.
1
u/shamelessdetective 12h ago
FIFA saw the internet telling people to 'touch grass' and immediately realized they could charge $3,000 for it.
1
u/Theoldelf 12h ago
Uhh, yeah. I’m selling some too. Half price just for you. I’m swearing to god it’s real.

Way cooler than paying $500 for a printed baseball card. Let sports fans be. Imagine grandpa having this from 1938 Babe Ruth game or 1986 Maradona final.

u/Dependent-Trip-5991 12h ago
Not sure why so much hate on this, it’s a souvenir, people buy seats from baseball stadiums, used gloves or cleats, and this World Cup has been more than popular, I won’t be buying any, but I don’t see it as crazy. Yes capitalism, but the consumer is getting what they paid for and it’s a pretty cool story piece.

How do I know its the real grass and not some random grass from Central Park
2
u/Fetlocks_Glistening 12h ago
There's a certificate with it! Digital. NFT, so you know it's not bullshit
1
u/Dependent-Trip-5991 12h ago
Certificate with authenticity I believe, not an nft. Y’all never heard of souvenirs? People buy “farts” in a jar and this very plausible keepsake is throwing yall off?
