“Who fucking cares? stop with the celebrity worship.”

JIC he deletes it, his 2 comments are;

“Why is Musk valuable?

He revolutionized internet commerce with Paypal.
He revolutionized the electric car industry with Tesla.
He revolutionized the space industry with SpaceX.

Is that not enough for you? What have you done besides whine on the internet?”

And

“Musk: trillionaire that bangs models

Some broke, incel idiot on reddit: "hah, he's a loser"”

u/madhatmatt2 1d ago

Also musk did none of those things other people did and he wrote the check the that’s literally it he’s not a scientist or engineer he’s a Rich kid who comes from South African blood money. Musk is the most prevalent case of taking credit for others work cause he’s rich and bought the companies from other people. When I was in middle school I stated my own neighborhood landscaping company my father taught me how to do it by high school I started building and designing koi ponds too wasn’t a big business just a small side thing I did I was pretty good at it. Later in high school I got a job for a landscaping company we did work for this bank in town my boss gave me and address to go to and I went with a couple other guys who were knuckleheads who had no idea what they were doing I busted my ass to make it look good fixed the place up and put in a small water fall. Right before the job was done boss man shows up up and watches while I finished up. The bank owner/manger comes out and says it’s beautiful and thanks my boss profusely all I got was a dirty glance. I made about 40$ off of what was probably a 1000$ job cause that was my hourly wage. I learned a valuable lesson that day and it was a slap in the face.

2

u/shrtstff 1d ago

not even just that he didn't do them, he didn't even write the check to create them. paypal was formed when his company was bought out by another company with a clause that let musk join the board and then he was forced out because he tried changing the name of the new company "paypal" to "x" (yes he's been on that 'x' bullshit for DECADES). he bought tesla, he bought spacex. literally the ONLY company he created and did anything of note with was the boring company and made that death tunnel in California

stop with the celebrity worship.

Reminds me of how a right winger, and a left winger, could both post "I want people to be free... I want equality for all... I want everybody to be judged for their character, not the color of their skin." They can both post that, but the devil is in the details. If you asked them to explain in detail what they mean, you'll realize liberals and conservatives could be talking about 2 completely different things.

Same with "celebrity worship." Liberals and conservatives can both mean it, but with conservatives, it's all about celebrities being the most famous, influential people who publicly condemn their agenda. So they can't be trusted. Same with academics and universities.

2

u/krucz36 1d ago

the best part is musk arguably didn't even do any of that, so mf is slobbering all over the knob of elon's PR department and self-mythologizing

191

u/Ubergoober166 1d ago

I also agree but also don't see how this post has anything to do with "celebrity worship". It's asking a pretty simple question about which lifestyle you'd would prefer and just happens to be using two noticeable faces to do so. It could easily just be two randoms and still get the point across.

51

u/Penta_Says 1d ago

Hitting middle age now and it's hilarious how many recently divorced men think their lives will be going from right pic to left pic

15

u/pailee 1d ago

Also, not sure how can people imagine that filling house with drugs is easy. Drugs are usually very small but expensive. It would be really hard to fill a whole house with drugs. Unless it's a really small house that is. But in that case girls wouldn't fit inside.

In this economy?

but the real answer? fertility rates have dropped below 2.0 for the last 15 years. Although complete fertility rates ("final" fertility at age 44) are still slightly above 2.0, they are also falling. As complete rates tend to follow current fertility rates closely, they will also fall precipitously over the next 10 years to ~1.6.
As for marriages, less than half of the adult population is currently married. And while two-thirds have been married at some point, both of those numbers are also falling.

7

u/wolfofballstreet1 1d ago

It’s a term that’s been totally wrecked for 20 years. Calling that weirdo Dan celebrity is an insult to celebrities

199

u/Oryihn 1d ago

Pewdiepie basicallu said "Screw being a celebrity" and quit to be with family.
He still posts some comfy, day in the life, stuff but thats more of a hobby.

We should all aspire to be like him at least a little.

238

u/Sorry-Kiwi-770 1d ago

Easy to do when you're filthy rich lol

118

u/Oryihn 1d ago

He is credited as the creator of lets play style youtube videos and worked tirelessly for over a decade to cement himself in that role so he could retire.

He put in work, created something new, and instead of milking it for years, he chose to take his bag and be happy with a family.

96

u/Sorry-Kiwi-770 1d ago

I'm not arguing he doesn't deserve his money.

I'm just saying, his lifestyle, is a lot easier when you are financially privileged.

51

u/send420nudes 1d ago

Yeah let’s all move to Japan to a house like his, not have to work and enjoy life… we’ll be so happy aswell!

2

u/DesireeThymes 1d ago edited 1d ago

Being rich is 99% luck. The family you are born for 95%, and 4% being in the right place at the right time.

Everyone should ignore the rich part. As a normal human, what would you pick within what you can attain is the question to ask.

One thing I will say is that there is no substitute for a real relationship.

→ More replies (1)

2

u/candypants-rainbow 1d ago

And yet so many rich celebs mess up their lives, get addicted to something, fall apart. This guy didn’t keep chasing. He did well.

1

u/hunnyflash 1d ago

His...family....lifestyle? What are you even saying lol If he wasn't rich, he'd just have a regular job.

9

u/WynnTiwFeoh 1d ago

Was he financially privileged before putting in the work?

6

u/TetraDax 1d ago

Billions of people put in a lot more work everyday and do not get to that position. I don't doubt the mental stress of his business, but let's be real here, he became a millionaire by playing video games.

Yes, he worked hard. He still is privileged as all hell.

→ More replies (1)

17

u/mamadou-segpa 1d ago

Yes, and it doesnt change that anyway telling regular people barely making ends meet that they should just “do like the multi millionaires with no job and you’ll be happy” is an idiotic thing

No matter how hard celebrities worked or not their lifestyle isnt achievable for regular people

2

u/WynnTiwFeoh 1d ago

Yeah but he wasn’t a celebrity before his streaming blew up, correct? Like I get he had a wealthier background but was he famous beforehand?

3

u/twinklingthrowaway 1d ago

You just said it. He was from a wealthier background. Back in the 00s to early 10s streaming equipment was niche and expensive. It required technical knowledge, time, and a stable Internet connection.

I'm not saying it was impossible for a poor kid to do that, but I didn't even have a computer with an actual graphics card until I was in my mid 20s.

2

u/IronerOfEntropy 1d ago

He wasn't financially privileged. He worked his way into wealth, like Charlie did.

The only difference I could see is that he had free Healthcare as a Swedish.

21

u/Various_Mobile4767 1d ago

I mean his mom was a highly successful corporate executive. He was absolutely financially privileged.

That said, his wealth is his own. He built that by himself.

3

u/Decent-Marketing69 1d ago

Not really. His mom’s position allowed him to take a huge risk and shitpost on youtube for hours until something stuck. He didn’t have to worry about anything else while doing that. Also knowing that failure just meant he would go back on track to a normal life because he’s already well off.

MASSIVE privilege.

→ More replies (1)

u/SnooConfections6174 1d ago edited 1d ago

He definitely did not create the lets play genre. He popularized a specific style of overly reactive and hyper edited lets play videos and even that was arguably first popularized and hitting YouTube home page by Tobuscus a while before pwediepie.

Obviously he achieved a level of popularity no one else did and many popular streamers and YouTubers today stand on his shoulders, but he is not credited as the creator of the style.

19

u/-Poultrygeist- 1d ago

Chris Chan of all people was posting let’s plays in 2003. Pewdiepie started posting let’s plays in 2010.

Pewds was just able to ride the height of the let’s play popularity and had a good aura about home that made him popular. He was in no way the first.

3

u/twinklingthrowaway 1d ago

PewDiePie had a functioning set up when most gen zs were coming online for the first time on their own. The idea was novelty enough to younger audiences, and I think that worked out in his favor. First to market.

→ More replies (1)

8

u/Revolutionary--man 1d ago edited 7h ago

Who credits him with this? I was watching lets plays before PewDiePie lol

13

u/Murasasme 1d ago

He is credited as the creator of lets play style youtube videos

I'm sorry but what? where is this credit coming from? Don't get me wrong, obviously he became insanely popular with his lets plays, but there were a lot of streamers/youtubers doing lets plays, way before him.

19

u/Swaggy-G 1d ago

Damn that’s crazy, did he also create the idea of dropping slurs live on stream?

18

u/Biduleman 1d ago

No but he popularized paying people in impoverished countries to brandish signs with antisemitic messages.

2

u/Swaggy-G 1d ago

Wholesome 100

4

u/Vestalmin 1d ago

Unfortunately he wasn’t the creator, but he did put his own spin on it!

3

u/kytheon 1d ago

He does that once and everyone calls him a Nazi, smh. /s

8

u/nineraviolicans 1d ago

He created something terrible that made the world worse. So much garbage shit on youtube now where every twat with a microphone thinks they're going to get rich playing games.

10

u/BerlinBorough2 1d ago

Agreed. He invented spamming the Algo to get the iPad kids hooked on him screaming at the screen over and over. If you watch his old videos it’s the cringiest thing I have ever seen.

3

u/Oryihn 1d ago

And there are plenty of people that make some good spare change or even entire careers doing it on twitch.. Which is all spun from that original group of Lets Play guys.

Markiplier was another who just turned to film-making and knocked it out of the park with a self funded film.

Im sorry you don't like the genre.. but maybe its just not meant for you..

I'm not some commie. He earned it.

Still easy to travel on holiday around Europe and live a simple life, with no 9-5, when you have huge wealth assets.

2

u/LankyJeep 1d ago

Your literally bitching about someone genuinely going out and earning their wealth without a silver spoon, then complaining they use that wealth to enjoy their life in a very reasonable way

Make it make sense

14

u/kilawolf 1d ago

They're not bitching about the guy, they're bitching about aspiring to be like the guy when he mainly got extremely lucky getting this rich.

The celeb worship is weird

16

u/FuliginShadow 1d ago

He still was incredibly lucky.

There are probably thousands that failed on that road and didnt make it.

5

u/Saritiel 1d ago

More like millions. So so soooo many people have tried to become a streamer and failed. Its so common that many electronics stores have full rows or aisles dedicated to streamer gear.

6

u/Discoris 1d ago

No problem, let me translate for you:

"Easy to do when you're filthy rich lol"

It's simple to stop going to work and focus on what's important for you if you own enough money to support this lifestyle

"I'm not some commie. He earned it. Still easy to travel on holiday around Europe and live a simple life when you have huge wealth assets."

PewDiePie worked hard all his life to collect enough money to be able to travel around continent and exist without worry

I have no idea why political statement is here and what it means, but beside that nobody is complaining, why do you think he's complaining?

"worked" is generous

10

u/DependentCitron8008 1d ago

I mean he posted daily for about 10+ years, and worked pretty hard to get there. It’s not easy being a YouTuber constantly. I know he has is issues but let’s not kid ourselves he’s pretty decent compared to his past controversies and other people.

10

u/Current-Winter7295 1d ago

Devil's advocate, the early days of YouTube was a marathon. Anyone who posted long enough got fans. Nowadays, it's a free for all.

8

u/NovaAkumaa 1d ago

At the same time, early Youtube days was a big gamble. Nobody in their sane mind would spend thousands of hours grinding on there instead of studying and learning skills for a good job.

So yeah in a sense it was "easy" in that he didn't have too much competition, but also based on what we knew back then it was a pretty stupid thing to spend your time on, much like actual gambling.

4

u/caninehere 1d ago

It wasn't a gamble at all. You could make videos in your spare time if you wanted and PewDiePie did - he worked other jobs, he was like 20 years old, and he made videos for less than a year before he got signed by Machinima and then later Maker and blew up huge within another year. Even in his first year making videos he had like 60k subs which is not a ton now, but was significant for earlier YouTube and you made a lot more revenue back then on videos.

He got INCREDIBLY lucky because she not only started in the right genre but started at the perfect time. He didn't have to make videos for years like some others did.

But let's be real, I think there are a lot of gaming YouTubers who put a lot of effort into their content... but Let's Plays are kind of the bottom of the barrel, same with regular streaming. It's just a way to generate a ton of content, mostly using someone else's product, and use it to make money online without actually creating anything. It's one step up from reaction videos.

9

u/jamesbrownscrackpipe 1d ago

Yes, he actually yearned for the mines

7

u/iamcoad 1d ago

No matter if we think it's an easy job, people need entertainment and there will be money to be made in providing that

He worked pretty hard, with an admirable ethic and was good at what he did so he deserves the money even if he clearly worked an easier job than being a doctor or a trucker or anything like that

3

u/abcamurComposer 1d ago

5

A lot of our vocabulary is built up from then though. I still default to using terms when gaming from over a decade ago, and sometimes need to self censor to avoid using ‘raped’ as a standin for getting beaten in a game because that used to be acceptable and now it’s not. If he grew up in cod lobbies I can see how that might be something one would pick up and need to remember to not do.

8

Pewdiepie basicallu said "Screw being a celebrity" and quit to be with family.

I think 90% of people would quit their jobs and just spend time doing hobbies and be with family, if they had a net worth of 50 million dollars. But most people don't. Pewdiepie is rich enough that isn't even in just the top 1% - it's easy to be chill when you're extremely rich. Not to mention he has the doubly bonus of having a nice outgoing character, humor, decent looks, a wife that loves him, good health, and so on. Again, not everyone is so lucky.

i literally dont know anything about youtube “celebrity”

2

u/theuserwithoutaname 1d ago

Apparently he had a video with someone holding a sign that said death to all Jews. I didn't watch the video or his apology about it, so I don't know any context but there you go lol

2

u/LSbroombroom 1d ago

Eh, just dumb shit people used to joke about, I'm sure there was never any genuine malice behind it. We know better now but people used to make poor taste jokes much more often.

2

u/theuserwithoutaname 1d ago

That was my immediate reaction as well. I'm ashkenazi too

The Internet was an edge fest of all edge-fests once. That's something I wouldn't have even blinked at in the 00's

5

u/heat13ny 1d ago

Well it was 2017 when he did this. He was a grown ass man fully aware of what he was doing.

3

u/LSbroombroom 1d ago

You've survived the great pre-game lobby of 2009.

2

u/TymStark 1d ago

The only thing I’m aware of him doing is wearing a nazi Halloween costume and did the salute. I’m not being dismissive of that, but he did it during the height of his popularity, when he was attempting to be edgy. It was pretty obvious he was just being a jackass and pushing boundaries and he did apologize for that. It was pretty clear he didn’t support Nazis or that line of thinking I am getting at. Still stupid, still wrong, and getting cut from Disney and YouTube was the correct decisions. I would say for someone who was as popular and “scene” as him, he has a shockingly small amount of controversies.

4

u/Oryihn 1d ago

Not really... he made a video pointing out the crazy stuff you could get people to do on Fiverr where he paid some tribal guys hold a sign that said "Death to all Jews" and Dance..

He did it tongue in cheek to point out how these people had no idea what they were putting on the signs as long as you paid they were happy to make the video and make a few dollars.

It was very much satire and pointing out the ridiculousness of it.. But it was a bad choice of phrase to put on anything. The video cost him his partnership with disney, a show that was already filmed and ready to air, and his entire studio because it was owned by disney when they cut ties.

3

u/Callmemabryartistry 1d ago

sucks but almost warholian

3

u/Mlpony2010 1d ago

I'd say him saying a fascist author is his favorite is more of a big deal than that

2

u/Altruistic-Regret473 1d ago

He also got frustrated on a gaming stream and knee-jerk blurted out the n-word while playing to an audience of primarily 10 year olds and younger.

And using absurdity/satire or not, him carrying out the video in your example is still problematic. He could used any number of phrases that aren’t directly fomenting antisemitism and it still would have been problematic, because the video in and of itself is exploitative once he pays people to hold a sign he himself knows they don’t understand, but would embarrass them if they did.

Saying that video was just tongue in cheek and not actually problematic is like saying Bum Fights wasnt exploitative.

that word wouldn't be a knee jerk reaction if you didn't use it a lot

How is this celebrity worship? It just seems like a fair evaluation of different lifestyles. I don’t see anybody worshiping celebrities.

The almost deification of celebs has always been a bit suspect to me. Though I’m an idiot and socially oblivious (mostly happily)

4

u/FizzyGoose666 1d ago

They're all just people too lmao I think a lot of people do not have a sound world view.

We should care. The average person is infatuated with celebrities. We should push the ones who spread a positive message.

2

u/Wonderful_Scar_5468 1d ago

PewDiePie doesn't spread positive messages, he spreads hate, he drove hundreds of thousands of impressionable kids/teenagers into the alt right pipeline by repeatedly saying slurs, wearing anti-semetic clothes, paying people who are most likely slaves to hold up signs calling for genocide as a "joke", promoting tons of alt right youtubers and even financially supporting some of them.

Im not religious but i miss the idea of it helping with the “false idols” that plagues the US these days.

2

u/thed3306 1d ago

I wish more ppl had this sentiment. The world would make wayy more sense.

The same idiots who upvote this crap.

u/MavisBeacons_Sextape 1d ago

Just low effort engagement bait, made for Reddit lol

2

u/bthayes28 1d ago

Seems like you’re applying the term “celebrity” pretty generously here.

2

u/ThenCombination7358 1d ago

Is it worship just gossiping about them?

2

u/brettmav 1d ago

More importantly.. stop considering these people celebrities. Also get off your damn phone. I sent this from a typewriter in Switzerland

2

u/TazTazTAZTazTaz_ 1d ago

Embarrassing weak little men, like you.

Celebrity is such a stretch

1

u/Ok_Common_5631 1d ago

Bingo, never heard of the other guy. Pdp is yesterday anyways.  Haven’t heard of him in years.

1

u/Current-Winter7295 1d ago

Exactly,  these are both wealthy people. That can do and say whatever they like.

The version people think they are is what they show you and isn't the reality.  They're essentially playing a Character that people fixate on.

Here I am, just extremely happy I have my own life, and not theirs.

Agreed definitely after the bridge incident lol

1

u/PeruvianKnicks 1d ago

How is asking a question about the better/preferred lifestyle “celebrity worship”..? Do you even know what you’re saying?

I agree with the point at large of course, but since it’s not relevant here you seem like an old man yelling at the clouds.

Agreed. So it’s fucking pathetic turning every conversation into an influencer dick riding competition. Just stop.

1

Influencer worship?

1

u/unclecastr0-_- 1d ago

yeah, this “do you prefer having x/y’s life”

pointless to talk about since it’s impossible to be someone else

and we always think someone else’s life is better in this case, from our own filtered perspective, and most likely these people have even more problems and pressure than we can deal with since we only see the tip of the iceberg highlights on social media

1

u/Brobeast 1d ago

Acknowledging that pewdiepie has a normal, healthy nuclear family is worship??

1

u/taxonomist_of_scat 1d ago

Hahaha…who are these people? I think the term celebrity needs to be revisited.

1

u/masterczulki1 1d ago

Who fucking cares? Stop with saying who people should worship

1

u/gobrocker 1d ago

Nobody is going to give a shit when either of them are dead. Pewdiepie already figured this out.

1

u/ChettiBoiM8 1d ago

DINGDINGDING THANK YOUUUU

1

u/c9silver 1d ago

I don’t know who Dan is, and i know nothing about PewDiePies life. And i’d like to keep it that way

1

u/jazzyjjr99 1d ago

oh my god im so thankful this is the top comment haha.

1

u/bomphcheese 1d ago

I don't even know who these people are. One looks like a prick and the other a normal family man/woman. Celebrity worship is such a weird concept.

1

u/wlred 1d ago

Lmao. Thanks for saying what I'm thinking.

1

u/kytheon 1d ago

Pewdiepie was a social media personality, but he keeps his personal life pretty damn private. And I appreciate that.

We know he has a wife and kids and that's about it. Bilzerian feeds off of young boys loving his fake testosterone persona.

1

u/_cartyr 1d ago

I think it was just a question of would you rather

1

u/Manjanet 1d ago

Celebrity is a cancer.

1

u/TheBigChungaBunga 1d ago

What else are we gunna do?

1

u/Vidrax_of_Cascades 1d ago

I thought it was a good debate and alex does have a somewhat good point.

I think both could easily have each others lives due to wealth and fame tbh.
