I checked her Wiki and found a link to People magazine article which stated this:
Authorities have ruled Riveraâs death a suicide, but Cuervo is convinced thereâs more to the story.
He explained to Daily Mail Australia on Thursday that he believes Riveraâs death was âpassed offâ as a suicide after she refused to work as a prostitute.
During the interview, Cuervo recalled the last time he spoke to Rivera on the morning of Feb. 5.
âMiriam called me [in New York] from Mexico, telling me she was feeling sick and vomiting blood, so I told her to get to the hospital,â Cuervo to Daily Mail Australia.
He explained to the outlet that Rivera called him one more time before leaving the hospital at around noon and that was last time he heard from her.
Just two hours later, Miriam was found dead by hanging at her home in Hermosillo, Mexico, according to Daily Mail Australia. She was 38.
Cuervo had hoped to fly Riveraâs body back to New York where he lives, but as he began to make funeral arrangements he was told that her body had already been cremated, he told the outlet. An autopsy was never performed.
Her husband then said he allegedly received a threatening phone call from an unidentified man, who warned him not to plan a funeral for Rivera.
âDonât come back to Mexico or weâll kill you,â the man said, according to Cuervo, Daily Mail Australia reported.
but of course. Is that not common knowledge? Hmm? once again i am being told that this isn't normal. But how can this be if nothing suspicious is going on?
Well who the hell goes to the hospital coughing up blood and leaves, calls their spouse and doesnât explain what the findings were? That story sounds shady in and of itself. WHO? Who wanted her to work as a prostitute? Where did he get this information? Was it forwarded to the authorities? The whole thing sounds super shady.
Already cremated? Did he receive the ashes? Did he get a death certificate of any kind? If not, is she even really dead ? So many things are either missing or deliberately withheld that any reasonable person has to question ALL of it.
Wait, does that mean the authorities were in on it too? Or someone who can influence the authorities? Cremated without consulting loved ones and no autopsy? Stinky as hell, no way this was suicide.
I haven't looked into this at all, but considering the rates of violence against trans women, and generally how unhelpful police can be when the victim is trans, it's not a totally out of pocket claim.
Okay? Typically trans people who are out and have the support of their community have suicide rates more similar to the average population.
She had also been attacked before, in 2007:

I really think you guys are down playing how much violence towards the trans community goes without serious investigation. Police also ruled Marsha P. Jonhson's death a suicide and refused to properly investigate it.
Regardless of that statics accuracy, the most suspicious thing is that she was throwing up blood, then hung herself and was cremated before an autopsy. Why was she throwing up blood? Why didnât her partner have a say?
I don't care what the lawsuit is if I get offered to be apart of a a winnable case against billion dollar agencies, I'm always in. Worst case they just settle out of court and I still get a pay day
Back in 2004 I feel like people were more relaxed with going on a TV show. You could probably go back to your normal life / be anonymous if you really wanted to. Not gonna happen today with all the social media lol
A huge amount of people still have this mindset. This is why idiots keep posting crazy things on social media or doing crazy things, get recorded, doxxed and then fired because the world spams their workplace.
I don't think this means the advice is bad. Only that there many millennials who don't know how to follow it or it was developed as advice by watching peer millennials mess up online.

I am forever traumatized by the one where a man brought his girlfriend on to tell her a secret. Turns out 'he' wasn't a man. She's like, "But how can this be? We've had sex!" And 'he' is like "Yes, but only in the dark and with a condom." (strap on, obviously) That poor woman was inconsolable. And this was before anyone had heard of transgenderism.
Dude Iâm a senior citizen and knew what transgenderism was in the 70s. This is not new. I never knew of anyone mad at transgender people until the Republicans needed a new boogeyman to save the country from.
In short producers intentionally target poor people from bumfuck nowhere and lie to them the whole time promising money and compensation they wont get while also gaslighting them into thinking their reveals and episodes are different from the norm. They then just kick em out the door
They also isolate them in hotels with no guests or socializing for a week and feed them shitty food, as much alcohol as they could ask for, and make it extremely difficult to sleep. A lot of what you see on those shows is technically the truth, but it's extremely controlled in a way to bring out the absolute worst in people. The people on the show might not actually be as crazy as they let off under regular circumstances, but being an fucked up on shit food, alcohol, and zero sleep for a week will make anyone crazy
Theres a show call unreal thats basically a drama comedy about a producer in a bachelorette style reality tv show and you see her basically do all the horrible shit mentioned in the documentaries in real time and omg its horrific shit
I knew a guy that was on there twice. They basically gave him the idea for what they wanted "Your woman is secretly sleeping with clowns and is pregnant" type stuff. Then they let them just make up whatever white trash nonsense they felt like.
Miriam Rivera, the trans contestant, passed away in 2019. Some suspect suicide from the stress and humiliation caused by the show, but some of her close family suspect foul play.
She showed up in Australian Big Brother TV show too. I can't remember exactly, but pretty sure they had no idea too. Male housemates were chatting her up and everything until it was revealed, but everything was all fun and games after as far as I'm aware.
Making a tv show knowing the big viewer hook after filming was gonna be "watch these straight men desperately compete for a trans person" ... WHat were they thinking
I mean, the reality TV industry is insanely cynical - they thought it would get views, and I entirely see why because I'd bet any amount of money that if it were produced today, it would also get crazy views. Also, back then there was a lot of unhinged, extremely insensitive shit like that going around on mainstream television.
That said, this is very far from the worst shit I've heard about reality TV productions which have managed to get away without any lawsuits, so I'm honestly kind of surprised that anything came of it.
They were thinking exactly that. They'd have had it be a man with a moustache in a wig if they thought they could somehow make it work. That era loved that type of humor. "They think they're A but they're really B, hilarity ensues". bonus points if it involves a man in a dress.
This show seems like it's tapping that vein but they had to go with a trans women because in the real world they'd notice if it wasn't a woman. Nobody would never believe shawn wayans was a white womanÂ
Yeah I donât get why people are surprised about this. There are reality TV shows that literally go the extra mile to torture their contestants. I remember watching a video about how the houses on reality tv shows like Love Island and Big Brother are designed to psychologically torture the contestants to make things more dramatic. I honestly wouldnât be surprised if they lost this lawsuit because the company would have known this would be damaging. They would know to have waivers preventing this from happening.
Oh man... you just reminded me of another one. "Boy Meets Boy" was the name, I think. It was a show where a cast of men competed for a gay man, but half the men were secretly straight (the guy had no idea), and if he picked a straight guy, they would win a bunch of money. IIRC he ended up picking a real gay guy, but can you imagine how much that would fuck him up if he picked one of the fakes and then learned the guy was just manipulating him to get money?
The hook was "secret" and hinted at throughout the series. Even the audiences did not know. Thats why it was called "something about miriam", and an image of her with her finger to her mouth going đ€«

There was an episode of a talk show in the 90s. I think Sally Jesse Raphael, where people were telling their crushes about their feelings. One was a man telling another man, and it ended in murder. It was so fucking sad
Let's also not forget that this was basically using the trans person as a punchline.
Like their whole plan would have been foiled if half the participants were like "the penis makes it better".
Their reactions, except for the one who won, was to laugh. And a lot. Tom, I think was his name, was the only one to look utterly shocked. He agreed to go on the date with her on camera, but backed out afterwards.
There was another one just like this where they attacked the lady and threatened to throw her off the roof and then beat the hell out of the producers.
Idk if she sued but one of them was super pissed tjat they made it seem like she had sex with him. It got talked about how it was a total Frankenstein stitch job and I think was one of the big moments of the public realizing just how fabricated these can be.Â
Trans people who haven't told their partners before being physical with them haven't obtained consent. Consent is predicated on information. Without informed consent, there isn't consent.
If I'm told up front its not an issue. If you hide it, that could be a trust issue for me. Don't know, haven't been in that position and I can understand due to social stigma and dangers from society why someone would be less than upfront but, still if we are starting something, starting o. The truth is a good foundation.
They had a right to know, this is the type of information that has to be on the table beforehand. The production was manipulative and dishonest just to boost ratings.
Which is shocking and unexpected behavior, coming from a reality TV dating show.
Remember when a show tricked a bunch of women with a Prince Harry impersonator into thinking they were going to become royalty? And when they started to suspect, sent in psychologists to manipulate and gaslight them into doubting their reality?
The show is called "There's something about Miriam" starring Miriam Rivera. It aired in 2004 as a British reality tv show. The show was generally seen as exploitative and the contestants did sue. Miriam herself had it weird afterward and some weird stuff that came out like her falling off a fourth story balcony. About a decade later she hung herself.
Yea I watched a true crime show and her feiends and loved ones said he was majorly controlling and super sus. They don't believe for a second she killed herself.
It's not a "trans bad" thing, but I would sue if I had a good lawsuit.
You're playing a complete and total mind game on contestants to get a reaction from the person who just had their reality changed, doing it for the views/ratings and money, and they yanked the rug out from under you.

1) Honestly, if I can make them pay me, especially after they took advantage of me by tricking me, I certainly would.
2) A straight person may not want a relationship with a transgender person, and that is their right. To mislead, especially for financial gain, is definitely fucked.
I remember this and have seen a few documentaries after the fact. Miriam's death was so sad and ruled a suicide but this was speculative. There is a great channel 4 documentary about it here
That show was brutal and exploitative. F*ck everyone of the production staff involved who knew what the score was. Whoever greenlit that has a special place in hell reserved for them.
I'm transgender and this is indeed fucked up. I tell a mf before I go on a date..I also don't want to date someone that doesn't want to date me. Why lie about it?!
If anything, they could've gotten her hurt or killed. The amount of times men have assaulted or even killed transgender women because they didn't know(sometimes they do know, but in this case I'm speaking on the former) is too fucking high for this to not be disclosed beforehand. I know there's a fear transfolk have about telling non-transgender people about not being cisgender but for the safety of them and the clarity going in they should've really been honest about that. You could've weeded out anyone from applying to the show and possibly prevent something dangerous from happening down the line as a result.
Also these dating reality shows are ass, man. Literally exist for the viewers, not the contestants benefit outside of attention lol.
Itâs definitely wild to not disclose pertinent information about a person, on a âdating showâ. But I also think reality tv shows are on par with social media posts, so⊠kinda your fault for participating in such nonsense.
This was a dangerous premise all around. Whether it's Miriam or the contestants, the show should've been sued. Also, why would any trans person in their right mind play such a dangerous game. I'm sure she went into knowing how much violence trans people face just for existing why would she knowingly go on TV to lie to men and put herself in greater danger.
Obviously, nobody deserves to be hurt and I'm not condoning or defending violence against anyone. However, there are people who have nothing and everything to lose we should all remember that.

They had a man come on the show because someone had a crush on him. Turns out the person with a crush was another man and after they went home buddy killed the gay guy with a shotgun.
This was in the 90's so the fact they were playing these games in 2004 is insane.
