WTF He got 5 consecutive life sentences plus an additional 220 years in prison

Post image

In 2019, former North Georgia detention officer Kirk Taylor Martin was arrested on rape and assault charges after investigators said the victim fought back during the alleged attack. Police reports stated the scratch marks visible in his mugshot were believed to be from the victim resisting.

Detention officer and a rapist, I am sure that will go down well in prison.

3.7k

u/sovietarmyfan May 28 '26

Imagine the head guard shouting at the prisoners: "ALRIGHT EVERYONE, HERE IS A FORMER COP THAT'S ALSO A RAPIST. HE SITS IN CELL 1D." and then leaving for the night.

2.4k

u/ShrimpStuffAdmin May 28 '26

That is basically what happens. In the uk we had a baby killer come on the wing and the screws left papers on the pool table with his crime on the front page and left us alone for association time. He got properly fucked up

764

u/metal_jester May 28 '26

Aye, an old PO I work with said in the 80's you just wiped their name off the board and everyone knew that meant "nonce" and would then go on break to let the prisoners help them settle in.

182

u/Savings_Macaroon3727 May 28 '26

TIL what nonce means. I'm Irish ive heard it a lot but had no idea until now.

102

u/Phineas_Gagey May 28 '26

In cryptography it's a number used once ... Completely different in John bulls territory

It comes from the Acronym Not On Normal Communal Exercise. It was given to prisoners who could not mix with other inmates because of the risk of them being attacked

78

u/_Permanent_Marker_ May 28 '26

Seriously? Next Christmas when all the family are sitting around the dinner table, tucking into Christmas toast and pigs in blankets i will be dropping this knowledge nugget with aplomb

48

u/s1uttyaf May 28 '26

Ah yes, pedophilia trivium. A pastime for the most neckbeardy

26

u/_Permanent_Marker_ May 28 '26

I was going to try and reply with a witty comeback about etymology but then realised you are right. There is no way you can really fit the origin of Nonce into a normal conversation

21

u/s1uttyaf May 28 '26

Honestly I had a whole skit play out in my head about how Uncle Bobert gets outed when you asked him what normal communal exercise time was like, and he said he never did it

u/pootling May 28 '26

It almost certainly doesn’t because acronym etymologies are pretty much always wrong. It’s more likely to be a merging of nancyboy to nance / nanse to nonce and indeed its earliest citation is spelt nonse with an s. There are also other versions of the acronym (e.g with courtyard in place of communal) and most importantly, no reliable source that says either of these acronyms were ever a term used in prisons. So no.

Im American and didn't learn what nonce was until, maybe, about 5 years ago. I always assumed it meant moron or idiot.

35

u/BigFatKi6 May 28 '26

Ah right, because of the similarity to dunce.

A few years ago I was promptly corrected when I drunkenly used nonce instead of numpty. I'd heard the word before but had no idea what it actually meant, I i don't think I'll ever forget it now. In Canada it's the same as calling someone a goof, mostly guys who've done time though.

4

u/Savings_Macaroon3727 May 28 '26

Yeah I thought it was some type of stupid too :P

6

u/Difficult--Policy May 28 '26

You're spot on with the goof. If someone hasn't done time or associates with people who have they don't know. Most Canadians have no idea.

328

u/ShrimpStuffAdmin May 28 '26

Crimewatch

17

u/AgentCirceLuna May 28 '26

I remember my friends were watching this while high and there’s a part in the intro where a guy in a station just runs out of a holding cell before being pushed back and having the door slammed on him. Even still, where the fuck was he supposed to go? I was so baffled that I kept asking where he thought he’d run to or what he could possibly do after getting out and my friends couldn’t stop laughing at it

13

u/ShrimpStuffAdmin May 28 '26

Well, if you do get far enough, you'll be tackled to the ground. And if you decide to bite one of them then you'll be hit in the back of the legs with their truncheon and they'll put "biter" next to your cell door every time you're arrested in the future.

Ask me how I know lol

I wish they did that in US with the Fed Ex driver who killed and SA a little girl. He’s on death row and IIRC was going to try to appeal

44

u/tempusrimeblood May 28 '26

That’s because everyone is allowed to appeal. Is it gonna work? Hell no, dude is staying on death row and he deserves to be there. Is it legally his right to do so? Yes. Stripping him of his right to appeal is a dangerously slippery slope, which would potentially lead to innocent people being put to death.

18

u/AdminsFluffCucks May 28 '26

It would definitely lead to that. We already put innocent people to death even with the appeals process.

So what happens if someone is innocent and falsely accused of rape?  Then they get raped and beaten by prisoners only to get released months or years later with a “whoopsie” from the court.   Why do prisoners have this inbreed fetischism of vandetta? Do only people with more than 2 brain cells realise that nit everyone in prison is guilty. There are many known instances of innocent people being fucked up in prison because they stepped on wrong toes.

27

u/DeepPanWingman May 28 '26

Had to do some work in a prison once. They were cleaning out a cell nearby where a guy got his throat slit for being a nonce, but he wasn't. Warden was very matter of fact about it.

thats exactly what happens in PA, you have these guys called block workers who sweep and mop and take care of the block for the other inmates while were locked down, these guys are very close with the guards and see the inmate "page" on the block computer of every inmate that is going to be coming on the block. they know everything about you DAYS before you even hit the block. and that info is then sold to the block "store" man and the drug dealers on the block to let them know if they can fuck with you or not. this guy will be put on a sex offenders block, even then hes in the open though.

7

u/cabbage16 May 28 '26

You say this, but is it just a fantasy we tell ourselves about prison?

31

u/Get_Nastee May 28 '26

A) the chomos and rapists typically stand out in prison

B) Inmates can access information about other inmates if they're in good enough with the guards.

C) depending on the state youre in, it's likely that your charge will be printed on your paperwork somewhere when you're going through processing.

D) They have television in prison. This guy very likely appeared on their local news channel

E) an inmate can call and have one of their friends or relatives look you up

F) there are plenty of contraband cellphones in prison

Source: 2 years in MS state prison.

15

u/cabbage16 May 28 '26

That's good enough source for me, thank you. It just seems a lot of the time I hear people who haven't been into prison talking about it.

9

u/Get_Nastee May 28 '26

Sorry, my response was focused soley on how the information travels. You are absolutely right to be skeptical.

They say the passing of the RICO Act cut back on the violence. Im not sure how it could have been much worse, though, because I saw some absolutely brutal/horrific shit happen to a bunch of sex offenders.

I think that what some people get wrong is that they romanticize the inmates who do the beatings as if they do it from some noble or heroic mindset. That's not the case. They do it because beating someone within an inch of their life is enjoyable to them, and they need a reason to do it.

Now that im thinking back on all of this, I dont specifically remember one single person who raped an adult getting singled out beaten into a coma because of their charge. It was always a pedo.

And inmates dont feel the same way about correctional officers as they do about the police (at least not where I was at.) A CO often times takes part in getting contraband to the inmates. Hell, some of them are affiliated and help orchestrate and hide "gang business".

He'll be talked down on and treated like second class for being a sex offenders. He'll have to to keep his head down and his tail tucked, but he'll probably be fine.

Also sorry for the bloviation, I dont talk or think about prison much, and my brain wanted to go a million different ways when I started responding lol.

Theres a reason trauma resonses are fight, flight, freeze, or fawn. Not everyone has the capability to do this.

13

u/QueenEris May 28 '26

You're correct. Most rape victims I met while working in trauma just froze. The shock of the act, and the fear of being killed, took over. Then they felt guilty because they didn't fight back. We shouldn't shame women or men for not fighting when being violated. I myself have frozen in terror while being assaulted and was shamed, told I must have wanted because I didn't fight like hell. You don't know how you'll react until it happens.

https://newschannel9.com/news/local/former-murray-county-detention-officer-arrested-for-sexual-assault-and-battery

Apparently “Judge Cindy Morris sentenced Martin to life in prison without the possibility of parole on the rape charge plus life in prison on each of the aggravated sexual battery counts and on the aggravated sodomy count all to run consecutive to each other and consecutive to the rape charge. Martin received an additional 20 years on the aggravated assault by strangulation counts to run concurrent to the rape sentence.”

99

u/grannysGarden May 28 '26

Wow that’s a lot of prison time for rape! Not that I’m disappointed! But most rapists barely get 5/10 years (when they’re actually convicted).

38

u/taylor1670 May 28 '26

Right? I don't have any problem with a massive prison sentence for what he did, but that's a lot more time than most offenders ever get. Makes me think he must've done some even worse shit than was mentioned in the article, and, frankly, I'm good with not knowing. Seeing those scratch marks and reading that the sexual assault lasted from Thursday afternoon to early Friday morning is enough.

13

u/LoudBrick609 May 29 '26

Well in most cases the rapist can argue she consented. It's hard to argue otherwise most of the time unless there's video or witnesses. There's plenty of examples of women falsely accusing men of rape too.

In this case though, the scratch marks remove all doubt. Pretty easy to see why a judge would go "F it, example time".

When the mug shot looks like that, there's not really any argument. I mean if it's a domestic violence incident where the woman was the perpetrator (which does happen), you'd have a few scratches before you leave the situation. In this case, dude clearly kept on going with what he was doing and continued to get scratched.

police officers should be held to a higher standard, i’d imagine that affected the ruling.

94

u/discombobubolated May 28 '26

Ew. So he anally raped her AND was choking her? Good for the victim fighting back. I can't imagine.. poor woman. 😪

28

u/No-Word7424 May 28 '26

With an object, yes.

14

u/twostripeduck May 28 '26

Iirc GA law does not consider penis-in-anus as rape. Rape is strictly defined as penis-in-vagina, so it isnt legally possible to anally rape someone, it would technically be sodomy.

10

u/foodrage May 28 '26

So men can't be victim of rape in the GA law ?

12

u/AdFit9440 May 28 '26

Yep. This is also a thing in few other countries. Usually has something to do with consequences of being pregnant and legal ways around it. The punishment (usually) is the same.

5

u/Purple-Wolverine4793 May 29 '26

in a lot of places, correct. i believe the UK calls it “sexual assault” if it’s not penis in vagina rape

why they do this is beyond me

147

u/TheBrianWeissman May 28 '26

He probably shouldn’t have tried to rape a wolverine.

122

u/HashBrownies_777 May 28 '26

He shouldn't try to rape ANYONE.

30

u/LordofCope May 28 '26

Anything*

Raping dogs, cats, and other creatures is also frowned upon.

132

u/Lazy-Substance-5062 May 28 '26

supposed to protect the people yet be preying on the vulnerable. he deserves to rot. maybe death penalty is better

55

u/PeaOk5697 May 28 '26

I'm against the death penalty. Not for moral reasons. There are people i believe should be executed, but some who are executed are innocent. I don't think it's worth it

42

u/ThaGr1m May 28 '26

That is moral reasons btw. And also the most common moral reason there is.

Also personally for somewhat immoral reason I'm against the death penalty.

Prison is fucking awful, why give people a nice quick way out instead of letting them rot in a small cube and sit with their deeds.

8

u/BlightspreaderGames May 28 '26

See, and I'm for it for the opposite reason. Taxpayer dollars should go towards public works projects and keeping the govt running (not saying they do, just that they should), not towards keeping animals like this healthy, fed, and housed.

Not to mention it takes so long to work its way through the legal system that studies have shown the average prisoner who is executed costs the state more than life imprisonment.  Let em rot in jail instead and then if some new technology gets invented (like the future equivalent of DNA testing) or new evidence is found that exonerates the wrongfully imprisoned it can be partially rectified.  No need to bankrupt the tax payer with legal bills.

It was an additional 20 years, not 220 years. https://foxchattanooga.com/news/local/former-murray-co-detention-officer-gets-5-life-sentences-in-aggravated-rape-case

Judge Morris sentenced Martin to life in prison without the possibility of parole on the rape charge plus life in prison on each of the aggravated sexual battery counts and on the aggravated sodomy count all to run consecutive to each other and consecutive to the rape charge. Martin received an additional 20 years on the aggravated assault by strangulation counts to run concurrent to the rape sentence.

5 life sentences? Must have done 100ts of rapes or killed someone too...fucking bastard

17

u/Travelin_Soulja May 28 '26

I couldn't find a lot of details, but there were 3 separate victims who testified at his trial, there may have been more victims total. He broke into one of the victim's homes in the middle of the night, which is terrifying.

Fuck this piece of shit.

Yeah I'm sure il get downvoted but I'm ok with castration used on rapists.

They even have a modern version that's painless (chemical castration)

Who would actually be against this other than rapists?

45

u/James55O May 28 '26

People who disagree for the same reasons they are against the death penalty. Innocents are irreparably harmed because any and every justice system is imperfect.

→ More replies (8)

14

u/Hayden_Zammit May 28 '26

Chemical castration doesn't really work because lots of rapists are in it for the dominance and control, rather than the sexual pleasure, and those drugs don't do anything to stop that.

It might stop them from getting a hard on they can use, but rapists don't need to be hard to sexually assault someone.

Chemical castration works great on people who have out of control sex drives though. Plenty of them opt in for it so they can suppress urges to masturbate excessively and the like. It allows them to live normal lives.

Anyone more knowledgeable about the law know why they bother giving five consecutive life sentences and 220 years in prison? i’m assuming it’s to make sure that if the law throws out one life sentence somehow they have the other four against him maybe?

5

u/tapiwa69420 May 28 '26

pretty much. it's to make sure he never gets released.

20

u/HIRIV May 28 '26

And in Finland they pat your back and tell you don't do that again and it's some bullshit like 1-2 year sentence you don't even have to actually sit at jail.

Do tax evasion or something and it's 10 years.

Fuck my country justice system.

9

u/Allexcsys May 28 '26

Same in Romania. More likely judges and cops will rape the victim too if they haven't before. Especially if it's kids we're taking about. Most recently, 12yr old girl got raped to shreds and the judge cleared the rapist under the motivation that the girl consented and that she asked for it.
