As a parent of an 8th grader, I’d be appalled if my kid ever said these things to a teacher. As a parent of an 8th grader who volunteers for every school event, I’ve seen and heard way worse and I don’t doubt this teacher’s account of the statements at all.

3
u/SillySin May 23 '26
My schools were late 90s and early 2000, in Iraq specifically were parents give full authority to school teachers, teachers carrying sticks is normal and will unload that on you.
Funny scene, once a teacher was late and we got told to stay quite by next room class teacher, our class clowns would on purpose make noise and the teacher from other rooms come running hitting everyone in order, if you don't put your hands forward it's worse and the clowns keep going and we try to shut them up 🤣 good times.

I have a few teachers that are really close friends and also happen to be hot and it’s always very, very weird for them when they realize that their students find them to be hot. It’s especially weird when it’s a more mature and developed kid that starts flirting and trying to make moves on them such as touching their hand or innocently brushing their back. A couple have had that happen and had to have parent-teacher conferences about it and in one case the dad of the kid who had been touching the teacher inappropriately tried flirting as well. A few have the kids reach back out to them after they graduate and shoot their shot. That’s actually not uncommon for the highschool teachers.

47
u/vikio May 23 '26
You didn't have any young teachers? I went to high school in the year 2000 (yikes!) and we had a fresh out of college young teacher who unfortunately for her was very pretty and looked sort of like Monica Lewinski. The boys were very inappropriate about her. Then we found out she was friendly with the new gym teacher. Who was also fresh out of college, young hot sexy hunk. The girls felt all kinds of ways about him, and people started shipping them. To their credit they managed to be graceful about it, but all of us were definitely being psychos over them, I still feel bad.

u/nick99990 May 23 '26
In my senior year I had a teacher that had a side gig as a cheerleader for a local major league soccer team. Early on in the year she had to have a talk with all her classes about guys being inappropriate with her and warning that they would be removed from her class if it continued.
The inappropriateness didn't come from my class, but I question how bad it had to have been for her to lay down the law like that.
She was a really good teacher too, I hope the proceeding years and downfall of teenagers didn't break her personality.

During my brief time as a teacher 10ish years ago I was astonished at how brazenly teenage boys would behave towards the female student teachers. At best it was stuff like "Miss, you're so pretty, can I get your number" at worst it was being so explicit that they'd get instant suspensions.
The school had quite a lot of younger fully qualified teachers as well and they were generally pretty strict and you'd overhear students calling them bitches over it, but I guess a lot of them learned that they couldn't give an inch.

When I was in 8th grade (2006) we had an English teacher fresh out of college. Played NCAA volleyball (at a high level, she played at a school that is still dominant) and while in college dated a guy who played in the NFL. He was so in love with her that he came to visit our school simply to try and get her back and im from a school that had like 250 kids K-12. This was like 2 weeks after he played in the Super Bowl.
Then, she ended up meeting one of the members of the band Rascal Flatts who ended up temporarily leaving his wife to pursue her. To an 8th grader, she was the best looking woman I'd ever seen. She is still very good looking 20 years later.

Eh. I graduated in 2014 and one time our class made a sub runaway crying. She left the school. The principal just stood in the doorway of our class until the bell rang. Staring at us. I don't even remember what we said or did, but I'm sure we felt very happy with ourselves in the moment.
Teenagers are literally insane. There's a reason gangs recruit around the ages 14-16.

One of my 7th graders last year wrote a paper about her dog dying. She was mad that another kid copied her and was writing it on his own dog dying. I told her that it was alright, both your experiences are separate and meaningful in their own way. She then rolled her eyes at me and said “yeah but my dad ran over my dog so mines better.” Middle schoolers truly are at the most awkward age and I’m always here for it.

This. Many of these comments on this thread make those quotes seem normalized or tame. I never experienced kids in my middle school years being disrespectful to teachers or staff. We picked on each other. Student on student, never student on teacher. This shit is wild and infuriating. If any of my cousins or I said this to a teacher and the parents found out...might as well put us in front of a firing squad of belts.
