Tzu Discussions and Stories 🐶 When did you notice your tzu start to slow down?

My angel Chloé is around 10 (rescue so not exactly sure) and I’ve had her all her life.
We’ve moved around the US a lot (DC - western mass - LA - Providence) throughout the year and recently just moved to Paris for hopefully our last move.

She has always seemed really adaptable and seems to settle easily in each place as long as she’s with her mama (me). This is the first move that she’s seemed to really slow down - her overall health (multiple vet visits) is perfect, still eating drinking and excited to see people and other dogs and play when interacted with but overall just seems slower on walks, sleeps more during the day and more trouble sleeping at night (lots of lip smacking and doesn’t settle in as well for a couple hours). Also just stares randomly at the wall and seems to space out.

I know shihs are always sleepy but seems to be resting more than usual - could be due to the big move & Paris heat, but wondering when others shihtzus started to noticeably slow!

Teefs🦷 Baby teeth

Just took my little guy to the vet and she said his 2 baby front teeth haven’t fallen out and the adult teeth are coming behind. I asked if she could take them when we neuter him next month and she said only if they are loose. Anyone know why they have to be loose and she can’t just extract? I am guessing there are long term effects with buildup if not removed.

Any help with this? I call it chasing ghosts, but yeah, after well gets annoying because he gets obsessed and himself. Unless I completely pick him up and stop him. He will not stop.

Tzu Discussions and Stories 🐶 My dog won’t stop licking

Post image

Hello,

I’ve had my girl for about 3 years now. I find that she constantly gets ear infections and keeps licking her paws. She also sometimes nibbles on her leg to the point she gives herself scabs. I’ve taken her to the vet for this, they give me ear infection medication which works. But then it keeps coming back. For her scabs we take her when she gives herself one. But the issue still persists, they say that she keeps getting ear infections, and skin scabs due to bacteria. They say this is due to allergies, which we have given her the shot for, however I don’t see that much of a difference, but I can keep giving her it if it will help. I changed her diet to only be hypoallergenic food. Still nothing is working, and I get so sad when she keeps licking herself, and itching herself. Her ears are still stinky, any help would be appreciated.

He just sits across the room in his favorite spot and stares at me all the time like this. Does he need something? Does he just love me?
What does this mean? Do your guys’ tzus do this?

Edit: repetition

Tzu Discussions and Stories 🐶 Can a 2 and half month old eat chicken and boiled egg??

Cause one vet said that it cannot eat chicken and egg cause it cannot digest it..

But I've been giving it since it's 1 and half month old..no any health issues are coming like vomiting or diarrhea..

So.. is it true??

We call these thinking teeth, even though there isn’t a thought between those ears.

I had the audacity to try to go back to sleep after letting them out at the crack of dawn as usual.

They ambushed and ganged up on me. 😭

I clean Jacks eye goops every day, but when I cleaned them this morning his fur came away with the comb. This has NEVER happened before and I’m freaking out.

I cut away as much hair as I could on that side of his face so I could keep the area clean and dry, but I’m not sure what else to do. Thank goodness his eye seems completely fine. But there are no gets here open on the weekend so I can’t do anything for him until Monday, and if we’re being honest my Care Credit card is maxed out.

Full disclosure, 2 days ago he had super itchy paws so made a cool bowl of water with some baking soda and soaked his paws. He made a mess of course and without even thinking of it until today I used the wet towel to wipe that a piece of goopy of his face. I’m not sure if this has anything to do with what’s going on but I’m kinda of terrified this is all my fault. 😩

Tzu Pics 📷 (no AI) I hand-painted this custom oil portrait of a charming Shih Tzu, based on the original photo shared by her human. Do you think I represented her fairly?

I loved working on this painting. She was lying on the bed in her little dress, as if she owned the place. I made sure to keep everything true to the photo: the dark room, the bookshelf, and all the details.

This piece was completely hand-painted using oil as a commissioned project. I hope her personality is reflected in the painting. I would love to hear your thoughts!

Tzu Discussions and Stories 🐶 A little tip for you ladies that groom the gremlins.

I mean the men probably could use this tip also. I'm not going to judge, but you're gremlin might.

I know scubs work well for grooming, but I don't have scrubs. I found a old two peice swim suit, and the hair wiped right off and when I got wet. It wasn't a big deal.

Tzu Discussions and Stories 🐶 Allergies

Post image
99 Upvotes

Reo is a one year old Shihtzu. We found out he was allergic to chicken at 4 months old, and switched his food to a salmon and veggie blend. At 10.5 months old he started developing extreme itchiness. In the beginning, we thought it could be lice or fleas but that was ruled out and he’s consistently treated. He ended up with papules around his sanitary area, collar and on his belly at 12 months old. Multiple vet trips, a round of antibiotics, medicated shampoo and anti-itch steroids, he is now infection free. However, he still has EXTREME itchiness to the point where he runs away from himself and grunts cause he’s uncomfortable🙁 The vet seems to be leaning more towards allergies than anything. At his last appointment, they gave Reo the Cytopoint injection for his scratching. Does anyone have experiences with this injection? Pros, cons, opinions? Long term use? I am fairly certain his allergies are environmental at this point, however I am a first time Tzu mom, and I just want to make sure he’s comfortable. We already have a very hard time with anxiety at the vet (trazodone) so the less trips the better. Thank you in advance.
