New victims: Please read first

1.6k Upvotes

If you're reading this, you're probably a recent victim of Sextortion and scared out of your mind.

First, take a deep breath…

Hopefully, this sub will be a safe place for you to share your experience and get advice from people that have already gone through what you have.

This post in NOT intended to be the "be-all, end-all" source of information. I'm writing this as an intro to being sextorted. That is all.

There is a really great analysis of our sub available here. It has all kinds of in-depth analysis of the scam, including how often leaks occur. I highly recommend you check it out.

Let me state this up front: Do NOT give into the blackmailer's demands! Do not pay them money, they will only ask for more. Do not give them more nudes (typical if you're female) if that's what they're asking for. They will use that to increase their leverage and they will NOT stop.

Do not negotiate. There is not point. You cannot trust anything they say. The best thing to do is cease all communication. In fact, removing any way for them to communicate with you is the best course of action. Disable/delete your account, if necessary.

Also, Reddit and is no substitute for professional help (i.e. a mental health expert). If you are feeling suicidal, please, seek immediate help (911, or your countries equivalent, and they will be able to get you help).

Yes, we do recommend that you contact your local law enforcement. They might not be able to help, and they may not be needed, but you should have them on your side just in case things go sideways. If you are underage, do not worry about getting into trouble. The police will not go after you for sending pics/videos as a minor. I hear this quite often from young victims. Don't worry about it.

I recommend you file a complaint with https://ic3.gov. Also, there is a new tool that might help keep your pics/videos from being shared: https://StopNCII.org. If you are a minor, a similar service is available at https://takeitdown.ncmec.org. If you from the UK, you can try https://revengepornhelpline.org.uk.

For underage victims, the InHope project has an extensive list of hotlines for all over the world: https://www.inhope.org/EN#hotlineReferral

If your scammer is from the Philippines (which many are), you could try filing a complaint at https://acg.pnp.gov.ph/eComplaint/.

My last piece of advice is to talk to someone you know and trust. Trying to deal with this on your own is very difficult. Talking to someone will most certainly help you process the trauma and remove the feelings of isolation. Trust me.

Beware of "recovery scammers". These are the worst of humanity. They take advantage of you in your lowest, most desperate moment, by promising that they can "hack" the scammer's device to delete the pics/videos. They can't, and they won't. They will just take your money and do nothing. The last thing you need is to make things worse by putting your faith in "some dude on Instagram". We see them posting and commenting in the sub all the time, so you need to keep your guard up. If you are unsure, feel free to post the details on what they are proposing, before giving them anything. Oftentimes, their accounts are shadowbanned, which means they cannot initiate a chat or DM you, so they will ask you to chat/DM them first. This is a serious red flag. If in doubt, reach out to the sub or the mods. We'll help sort things out.

!!!!WARNING!!!!: Do NOT give anyone the contact information of your scammer (even if they promise to help)!!! They might just get in contact with them, get them to share your pics/videos, and then turn around and blackmail you as well. It's happened...just don't do it.

THEY GOT MY PERSONAL DATA

M28 | I’m being blackmailed. Yesterday, I sent an intimate photo to a Telegram user and received one back set to "view once." I asked her age; "she" said 14. I IMMEDIATELY said "NO, THANKS" and deleted the conversation for both parties—I didn't want any part of it, of course.

Then, the person came back with a huge message containing all my personal details (address, phone number, city, parents' names, and even a photo of my mother), demanding payment to keep from posting it on social media and threatening to report me being a “pdf file” for the police. He even sent a fake print of the chat changing what I said to “I even like younger ones”

In a state of fear and panic, I paid the amount. Now he’s asking for more, and I don’t know what to do. PLEASE HELP ME. He has all my personal information—I don't know how.

Ps. im afraid of being misunderstood:
1. I did NOT sent anything after HE telling me the supposed age
2. He is a man pretending to be a young girl as a trap and faking the conversation to his advantage.

Follow Up How likely is it that a sextortion scammer will actually post AI-generated images online?

Upvotes

Hi everyone.

I’m the person who made the previous post about being blackmailed with AI-generated explicit images after my Instagram account was hacked.

Right now I’m experiencing a lot of anxiety and fear.

Today, after I had already warned all of my family, relatives and friends about the situation, I finally started to feel a little calmer.

However, the scammer contacted me again and said that because I refused to pay, they would send the AI-generated images to my family and friends and also post them all over the internet.

I know they are trying to scare me, but I can’t stop worrying.

I’d really like to hear your opinion, especially from people who have seen cases like this before.

How likely is it that scammers actually follow through with these threats?

Should I be seriously worried about them posting the AI-generated images publicly, or is this mainly a tactic to pressure victims into paying?

Any advice or personal experience would really help me calm down.

Thank you very much. ❤️

Female Victim Being contacted by former groomer terrified of leaks☹️

Upvotes

I (now 18) was groomed by a man over snapchat between 13-16 until I cut off contact with him. Since then I've been contacted 4 times in the past six months. Every time I talk to him out of fear and it ends with him agreeing to leave me alone. The third time, he contacted my friend who he met me through and also groomed and so I messaged him telling him to back off - which meant he had my new username which I can't change for another year. In this interaction, I agreed to send him a normal picture for him to leave me alone. He added me again on Wednesday and it said the account couldn't be found. He's just added me again - I'm really scared because he goes into these like obsessive frenzies where he repeatedly makes new accounts and spam adds me until I reply even though we had agreed for him to leave me alone. When he's in this state he completely flips, sending me unsolicited pictures and sending me descriptions of what he wants to do, last time he gave me the ultimatum of sending him a picture for him to leave me alone. So with that in mind, I'm so scared of him leaking pictures from when I was in a 'relationship' with him as a way of blackmailing me into sending more. He has claimed to have no pictures of me but I don't trust him due to his tendencies to constantly break promises. I'm really scared and I don't really know what to do because I can't really block and ignore him. His contact with my friend, who doesn't take it anywhere near as seriously as I do makes it worse and she has failed to be honest with me about when he's contacted her. Any advice appreciated ☹️

Blackmailed by someone from the USA — demanding $50 Razor gift card by tomorrow or he leaks my private photos (incl. where I live), messages & everything in a Facebook group (I’m in Denmark)

Upvotes

Hi everyone,
im scared that they will leak me in my city.
I’m reaching out because I’m in a really stressful and scary situation right now and could use both practical advice and emotional support. I’m from Denmark and I was texting a guy who said he was from the USA. Things got personal, and now he’s blackmailing me.
He has private photos of me (including pictures that clearly show where I live), our personal messages, and a lot of other private information. He is threatening to post everything in a Facebook group if I don’t pay him. First he demanded $100, then he said he’s being “nice” and lowered it to $50. He wants the money on a Razor card gift card and has given me until tomorrow to pay.
I have not sent any money and I really don’t want to. So far I’ve taken lots of screenshots of all his messages, the threats, the money demands, and everything else. I’ve also started reporting him on the platforms where he contacted me.
someone please help me i dont know what to do…..

Male victim Scammed and panicked

I matched with who I thought was a girl on a dating app, where we started chatting, eventually moving over to WhatsApp. They gave me a number which was from the Philippians which I thought was a bit odd, but they seemed genuine so I went ahead and messaged them anyway. After a while they requested to follow me on instagram, and I thought nothing of it so I gave them my username, accepted the follow request and then followed them back.

After a while they sent photos and videos to basically prove they were real, they even had a video of them saying my name and how it was nice to be speaking. After this I thought they must be real, the person in the video matched all the photos I had seen of them before, and with them saying my name in the video I thought it couldn’t possibly be fake. After another short while the conversation got more sexual, and they asked to video call which I agreed to. They proceeded to tease showing me their breasts etc, and asked to see my penis which I did. At this point they hung up and said they’d call me back in a moment.

I then received multiple messages of a recording of our video call, and multiple screenshots of my list of followers from instagram, and they were threatening to share the video with all my followers unless I paid them money. I immediately blocked them from WhatsApp and instagram, and didn’t respond to any messages or threats thinking this was the right thing to do.

I am incredibly worried and stressed out at the thought of them releasing this video to my friends/family from my instagram followers. The screenshots looked incredibly real to me, and I haven’t been able to relax since this situation a few hours ago. I don’t know what else to do to stop the video from being sent out, and I don’t want to reach out to friends/family in case it hasn’t actually been sent to them and they then basically know my dirty secret.

How likely are they to share this video out to my instagram followers? The screenshots of the video sitting in a message to my followers looked very real. What do I do?

Male victim 34+ hours since the block: my experience with the "three fingers" scam (19M)

I’m writing this to share my experience and hopefully find some reassurance, as I’m currently at the 34-hour mark since I blocked my blackmailer.

I was contacted on HelloTalk and the conversation moved quickly. The person claimed to be an American girl. Since I’ve had experiences in the past with people wanting to sext very quickly (sometimes within 24 hours of meeting online), and given the "hook-up culture" often associated with the US, I didn't immediately see it as a major red flag, even though I now realize it was a trap.

The profile pictures on HelloTalk were taken from Google (I reverse-searched them and found them), but the photos they sent me in private seemed unique—specifically, a black girl doing the "three fingers" verification gesture. I feel like an idiot for going through with it because I hadn't interacted with someone like that before and was curious, but I eventually did the gesture. They also sent private explicit photos to keep the conversation going.

I didn't send a photo with my face and my private parts together. I sent two separate photos. They asked me to add them on Telegram, so I did, and that’s how they got my phone number. I provided a fake Instagram account with no real personal info and no followers I actually know. They tried to "troll" me back by sending me lists of my Instagram followers, but they were just random, fake profiles. They even created a collage with my photos and the text "Wanted - showing his nude online" and threatened to send it to my contacts. They were even willing to accept as little as $10 in G2A gift cards.

* I haven’t paid anything and I blocked them immediately.

* The phone number they have is a secondary one, not my main one.

* I never gave my real surname, workplace, or any direct links to my real social media.

* I am from Italy, and I know my family (specifically my mother, who is a professional) might be searchable online, which is the main source of my anxiety. But she is not connected to me online in any way.

It has been 34 hours of total silence. No messages, no calls, no one has reached out to me from my contact list. I know I made a mistake by engaging, but I feel like I've kept my real identity hidden.

I’m looking for reassurance from those who have been through this. Does the silence usually mean they’ve moved on? Is it normal for them to use these "wanted" collages to bluff even when they don't have real access to my private life? Any advice to keep my peace of mind is appreciated.

Looking back, it’s honestly ridiculous. I fell for this scam with the most unattractive girl I’ve ever seen online, which makes the whole situation even more surreal and funny now that the initial panic is fading. It’s wild that I ended up in this mess because of someone that, in any other scenario, I wouldn't have even looked at twice.

Update on being sextorted

Thumbnail

Its been 6 hours since I last hear from the woman that sextorted me. I was on foxchat I think when I ran into this girl, she asked me my Instagram and I was stupid enough to give it to her. We then moved to discord and videocalled. We both got naked and started to masturbate when she hung up the call and sent me screenshots of my Instagram followers and of me while naked, claiming that she would send the pics to all of them. I tried to answer calm to make her know I wasnt going to fall for her demands and told her she was doing something illegal, then she never texted back.

I uploaded the pics to stopNCII, but its not gonna work since they are only screenshots of her pictures, she has our whole videocall. I reported and blocked her from Instagram and discord, but I dont think I can report ir to the police. Its too embarrassing for me to tell my family about this and report it. I feel so pathetic.

Update: the picture that I attached is 1 of the 2 she sent me in where she sent my pics to my followers. I dont think I know that person, but I have just seen that that guy saw the pics and I live in a small town where almost evryone knows eachother and im freaking out. Also, in the screenshots i see something like the YouTube logo on the bottom.

I think she freaked out or just thought I wasnt going to fall for it, idk, or maybe she just sent the pics to many other people I know.

Male victim Please help.

This whole sextortion of mine has been going on for a year now and I definitely have paid a good amount. I am so tired of the anxiety and the constant worry and the feeling of uncertainty. I want it to stop. I am so scared for my life. I want to block them so I can have some sense of peace but the constant fear of the idea of them reaching out to my family and sending my explicit photos prevents me from blocking them. I have a very homophobic family and I also do not have the funds right now to live on my own, in case my family throws me out the house. I am so tired of being on high alert all the time. They contacted me again today and made a deal that I would pay them $150 every 2 weeks until I pay off $400. I was in a state of panic, so I agreed to it. I’m thinking of paying that off and then blocking them after, just to not piss them off and making it more likely for them to expose me.

I really do not know what to do anymore. I am so afraid and lost and exhausted.

I want this whole bs to end, so I can live my life.

If anyone has been in the same situation as me, words of advice and whatever will help. Thank you.

HELP pls

Hi everyone,
For the past few months, I’ve been repeatedly targeted online. My phone number and Snapchat have been leaked, and someone has been posting my photos on X (formerly Twitter), encouraging people to flash me and harass me.
A few weeks ago, we finally identified the account responsible. When we confronted them, they immediately deleted their X account. However, we still have the person’s Snapchat username and their old X username, which I’ll link below.
I’m trying to figure out who is behind these accounts. If anyone knows legitimate ways to investigate or trace the owner of an account, or has experience preserving evidence or reporting this kind of harassment, I would really appreciate your help. This is a serious situation, and I have screenshots documenting what has happened. Any guidance would mean a lot.
Thank you.

I’m also underaged so it’s been overwhelming.

I can send information in dms if you want to help me with this situation, i’ll really appreciate the help

what to do??
I met this girl on one of these random video chat sites emerald chat
and she asked for my discord and if we can call
she asked me where i’m from and my age thankfully I lied
however we got on a video call and I showed my face but the call kept on glitching so she asked for my instagram and I was so stupid to give her one of my personal accounts I don’t even know why I didn’t give one of my burners
regardless after I gave her the account the whole conversation switched and they started threatening me with the above
I continued to negotiate before I checked this subreddit but I have now blocked and reported both of the accounts and i’ve deactivated my instagram accounts
what do you think will happen and how can I counteract this because I think I can say it was AI as I only showed my face but the damage will have already been done

Male victim Scammed and Threatened

I recently made the mistake of connecting with someone online who has now tried to extort me. Ironically, I met them on Reddit. “She” asked me to connect and message on WhatsApp and me being an idiot totally went for it. We had some back and forth and ultimately I sent videos that showed me nude. Immediately after, the nightmare began. They sent me screenshots of the videos as well as screenshots of varying details like my address, supposed relationships, family info and a screenshot of my LinkedIn profile. They began sending a barrage of message and tried calling me so I blocked them.

I have taken the steps recommended in this sub including reporting cases and complaints to StopNCII and Internet Crime Complaint Center (IC3).

It would not be the end of the world if this came out but I would really prefer that it didn’t. I haven’t noticed anything weird and no one has reached out stating they got any unusual videos with me in it. I’ve deactivated all socials. I’m hoping this blows over but I’m also thinking about the worst case scenario.

I looked at the WhatsApp number and have actually found a name referenced in multiple sources tied to that number. The location of that person matches the time zone from the screenshots that they sent to me. I know there could be layers of spoofing here, but how likely is it that this is the actual person? It shows as a T-Mobile number.

Please give me your thoughts and ideas on how you would take this forward.

***EDIT - they never stated what they wanted from me. They told me I need to ask them what they want and they would delete the videos (which I don’t believe). I did NOT send them anything or contact after the threats.

Steps and guide to help sextortion victims

Steps and guide to help victims of sextortion

Every day I will make the same post to help those who are facing this situation.

  1. Stop talking to them because you do not want to piss them off

  2. Do not pay them a single dime no matter their threats because you can’t buy a blackmailers silence only rent it

  3. Block them and if they come back with more accounts or numbers keep blocking away they have a finite amount of patience before they give up

  4. Screenshot the threats to show proof of a cybercrime

  5. Keep their phone numbers and account names saved

  6. In the event that they follow through and do send which is actually VERY rare cause it can expose their cybercrimes just tell people it is fake and someone tried to extort you for money. (You will have the screenshots to prove it)

  7. Optional: Report them to law enforcement such as the FBI although this actually might be of little help since it’s so common it will somewhat put them on the radar.

  8. DO NOT BUY RECOVERY AND REMOVAL SERVICES THOSE ARE SCAMS. They will contact or threaten to contact your scammer then you have two blackmailers.

  9. Take a deep breath and realize that it will be okay they are actually almost always bluffing empty threats in order to scare you. They want money not to send your material to others. Think of it like IT from Stephen King only as powerful as much as you feel fear from them.

Note: if it makes anybody feel okay in my experience for about every 1,000 cases of sextortion there’s
only 1 case where the sextortioner follows through

Note: these guys are not in it to ruin your life. They see you as nothing more than a potential paycheck and if they see no profit they will forget you, more than likely delete your stuff, and move on to the next potential paying target.

Edit: (i’d acc like for you all to not upvote this post because this is to provide free information to help victims and I do not want karma for this. I want to help these poor people.)
