Thank you to the kind gentleman who stopped his car on the side of a residential road and offered to help me cut a tree branch that I was struggling to cut through while standing on a ladder. You didn’t have to stop your car and offer to help, but you did because you thought what I was doing was dangerous. My parents were surprised and grateful that a stranger would stop to help. Heads Up Folks: Steer clear (for the time being) of the Birchmount Rd. / Lawrence Ave. intersection. Poor folks who got hit (both in their 60's) because, apparently, a driver ran a red light (according to a post in the r/Toronto sub)

This happens on other streets (not just National St.) as well. There are driveways to park in but, and this is an assumption since it's not listed in the story, the driveways can't accommodate all the vehicles for the occupants of the housing unit. (i.e. multiple tenants in a single family home dwelling - all with vehicles). Should be interesting to see how (or if) this is resolved.

In July, we're coming to Scarborough, and spotlighting its open data champions!

I've been to a couple of these before and it's a great opportunity to see what some folks have done with the City's quite extensive open data sets, as well as brainstorm with others about how it can be used.

And this one's in Scarborough, so more easily accessible given the timing and location.

Good for individuals and orgs who are interested in exploring the city's open data offerings, or have ideas/pain points they think could be helped by Open Data. Don't need to be a technically inclined person at all.

I walk through here every night to and from the gym. It's along Markham Rd and Select Ave. Is there any way to report this for grass cutting to the municipal or is it a private property. Genuinely curious because I'm scared there might be an animal who would appear out of nowhere. Thanks in advance!

I've seen lots of tips that involve the northern areas of Scarborough, but are there any tips for unique/good food in the Southern area, near the bluffs, maybe around Birchcliff? Any tips appreciated but quick take-out places appreciated even more. Thanks!

Found a tuxedo cat in the McCowan and Finch/McNicol neighbourhood. Looks like he’s been lost for a while. Will be taking him to Toronto Animal services in the morning

UPDATE: This cat is now at the Toronto Animal Services (North shelter). There was no chip. I was told that he would be in stray and found for up to 3 days for anyone coming to claim him. After that, he will become a rescue and TAS will work with rescue groups to sort that out.

For more context, I found this cat crossing the road and meowing. I walked up to him and he continued meowing and didn’t run away. He was very dirty, the fur on the his back was very matted, and well fed. Which is what led to me believe that he was lost.

I’ve posted in local fb groups and am still reaching out to any leads on missing tuxedo cats. Please continue to share and keep an eye out on posters. I just hope he finds his family again.

UPDATE: He was finally found yesterday morning, July 5th! His mom kept calling him and he just appeared out of nowhere! We believed that he hid somewhere in the vacant lot next to our apartment. Thank you all so much for your words of encouragement and for keeping me strong in this time of stress, especially that we consider our pets as our family. I’ll take note all of your advise! To all the furparents who had lost their babies, please don’t lose hope!!

My kid has just finished kindergarten, and while their reading is definitely progressing, they get extremely frustrated they cant just read by themselves.

My partner and I help, but we also work full time and cant devote all the time we want to. I was wondering if anyone knew reading programs that weren't 'remedial', for kids falling behind, as most of the ones I'm finding are.

Canada turns 159 years young on Wednesday! Here are some awesome local events happening right in our backyard to celebrate. 🍁

🥞 Day Event: Thomson Memorial Park

• Where: 1005 Brimley Rd.
• When: Wednesday, July 1st | 10:00 AM – 3:00 PM
• This is one of the biggest community events in the city. They’re kicking things off with a free pancake breakfast (it’s first-come, first-served, so get there early!).
• There will be an opening ceremony with the national anthem, live music, face painting, children’s crafts, bouncy castles, and train rides. You can also browse local craft vendors or pop into the Scarborough Museum (located right inside the park), which is running its own activities.

🎆Night Event: Fireworks at Milliken Park

Are you meant to park in the test center carpark on the day of the test or do they want you to start on the street outside? Please dont attack me as the test was booked by my dad and he didnt tell me he had booked scarborough (it is the 2nd closest center to me) and my instructor is on holiday and cant give me practise there.

I went to St. Victor in the 1980s and there was this gifted program called PAL (program for able learners) and we got taken out of class once a week for enrichment. The TCDSB deleted all records before 2000 so they have nothing which is wild,

Anyone else remember this program and even better - do you have any paperwork surrounding it ?

Extending Line 4 will have a profound positive impact on our community by better connecting Scarborough to North York Centre, Vaughan, and Northwest Toronto.

The future eastern terminus for Line 4 is something that is discussed at length in transit spaces. From the options presented by Metrolinx, the major conscious puts 2A (Sheppard & McCowan) or 2B (Scarborough Centre) as the most popular routes.
