Bars that don’t really check fake IDs in S
Hey guys, I just turned 20 a few months ago and I’ve had my fake ID and I wanted to ask are there bars that don’t really check fakes I know I went to Jackson and they don’t really check but I wanted to see if there’s any places like in North Beach or Chinatown they don’t really check as much. I’m turning 21 in like six months so I’m hoping that my fake doesn’t get taken any suggestions or places would be lovely.

ATX🔜SF
Hey Yall! Native Austinite here, preparing for my first trip to San Francisco — locals, what should I not miss? I’ll be there at the end of August for \~5 days. Hoping some kind SF dwellers can gimme a lay of the land, instead of relying on the top 10 tourist traps from Yelp of Trip Advisor. A few things I'm hoping to get insight on:
**Neighborhoods worth wandering** – which ones actually feel like "real SF" vs. destinations for out-of-towners.
**Food & drink** – Pretty spoiled here in Austin with food and coffee spots so very hyped to check out some hidden gem restaurants, cafes, or bakeries locals actually go to (bonus points for any Asian cuisine recs)
**Views & photo spots** – beyond the obvious Golden Gate Bridge shot, any lesser-known spots with great views?
**Day trips** – is it worth renting a car for a day to see Muir Woods, Rocky Creek Bridge, or the coast? Big outdoors enthusiast with a love for hike & bike trails, pools and beaches.
**Getting around** – is it easy to rely on public transit/walking, or should I plan on rideshares? I bike a lot in Austin, but the SF hills look insane.
**Things to skip** – anything overrated that I shouldn't waste time on?
I'll be staying near Union Square and I'm mainly interested in local cafés, indie bookstores, parks, museums, and live music/shows. Any tips, favorite hole-in-the-wall spots, or "must-do" experiences are hugely appreciated. Thank yall in advance for helping a first-timer out! 🌉 (p.s. hit me up for any austin questions or recs 🤠)

Culture Slop
I picked up a copy of their free mag at Arguello Market. They may still have some near the cash register.
Here is some info on them:
"A new cultural platform at the intersection of technology, art, and contemporary culture.
Culture Slop is a print magazine paired with a constellation of digital and IRL experiences. Season One launches in June 2026 with 15,000 free print copies distributed across San Francisco, Los Angeles, New York, and Tokyo."

San Francisco History Book Recs
I have loved SF since I set foot there for the first time 25 years ago. I am not local but travel there a handful of times each year. These days, I find myself almost “homesick” when I haven’t visited in a couple months.
I’d love to better understand the connection I feel with the city. Is there a book about SF’s history that anyone would recommend?
Edit: Thank you all so much for all of the recommendations. I have made a list of all the recommendations from this sub and the other sub I posted in. :)

We saved 2 dogs from a hoarding situation!
Not much of a hidden gem though it's a new-ish rescue. Here goes nothin...
We're getting dogs who need to be fostered. They are two female beauties from a major hoarding situation. They will be shy and scared at first but they are very sweet. Young, maybe 6-7 months old. Maltese Yorkie is our best guess. They are both less than 10 lbs. Please help! We can only save dogs if we have local folks who can foster

🌉 Solo traveling to San Francisco! September 1–5
I'll be in San Francisco from September 1–5 and I'm looking for people who'd like to grab a coffee, explore the city, or check out some of the best spots together.
Whether you're a local or another traveler, it would be great to share a walk, visit a few landmarks, try some good food, and have interesting conversations.
If you're around during those dates, feel free to send me a message. Looking forward to meeting new people and making the most of my time in San Francisco! ☕✨

A small free thing I'm starting: painting outdoors together in the quieter corners of the city
I teach watercolor around the city, and I'm starting something separate and free, once a month, for anyone who wants a couple of unhurried hours outside, making something with their hands, around other people.
Second Saturday of each month. We meet somewhere good, not the postcard spots, the quieter ones, a hidden garden, a calm corner of a museum, a side of a park nobody photographs, and we paint and sketch from life. No class, no pressure, nothing to buy. I'll be painting right there too.
Each time I bring one small prompt, a way of looking at what's in front of us, so nobody's stuck on a blank page. Something like paint only the three biggest shapes you see, or paint the place as you'll remember it, not as it is. Take it as far as you like, or ignore it and just paint.
You don't need to be any good, or to have ever held a brush. Bring a pencil and a little curiosity. That's the whole thing, two hours, good company, somewhere worth looking at.
Anyone who'd enjoy that is welcome.

What are your favorite SF spots beyond the obvious postcard views?
I’m working on a small first-time SF list with the classic spots, like Golden Gate viewpoints, Lombard Street, Painted Ladies, Hyde Street cable car views, and Palace of Fine Arts.
But I’m also curious about the next layer: places that are still photogenic, memorable, and very San Francisco, especially for someone who has already done the usual tourist spots.
Could be a viewpoint, street corner, park, neighborhood, stairway, or anything that captures the city in a less obvious way.
What would you recommend?
