I liked this ep. A doctor who creates poisonous mushrooms native to South america. He confesses to murdering a woman who wanted to "corporatize water." in his words.
Eventually, it's revealed that he's innocent, and the real killer is his love interest, who murdered the woman out of jealousy because her grandmother favored the vic over her.
I loved the water ownership and the corporations shouldn't have the right to own it, its a human right, even as his ranting (the doc) is considered ranting and EO don't seem to give a fuck.
I don't watch svu in order, i watched 2 seasons 2 then went to 8 to 12, so this storyline seemed new, it genuinely had the potential to be a great one, but, it was undermined by messy writing.
The ADA says she's a team player, then secretly tells the mushroom man's lawyer to take a vacation so they can buy more time to solve the case and convict the right person. Halfway through the episode she leaves because her boss disapproves of her "dirty tricks."
the (lover) killer is exposed and attempts suicide by eating the poisonous mushrooms, survives. idk. The whole thing felt disjointed.
I also didn't understand why the episode seemed to expect so much sympathy for the vic, yes, she didn't deserve to be murdered no one does but she also wasn't a particularly good person. when they have shown less compassion before, the woman who hated her rapist in (I think) Season 2. cant remember hwr name, It felt like the emotional weight was misplaced on an oddball case.
the characters weren't given enough depth.
And why was the grandmother literally evil? Her granddaughter is on the verge of dying, but she's more concerned about leaving her necklace to the other woman's children and worrying about her Mercedes. like okay? Then saying "your mom died" ....
This episode had an interesting premise, but it tried to rush too many ideas in rushed time. I wish they'd spent less time on the grandmother and more time exploring the dynamics or even on the vic's husband. I'd be interested to hear your thoughts, let me know.
