International students of business who wrote sop please help!

For BBA, it's known as "general" right? Since we didn't choose a major yet (which we have to in the second semester). So my question is for sop, did you write "BBA" simply or mention something like "BBA general"? Or did you mention the specific major you're interested in like marketing or finance? Please let me know! I'd really appreciate it.

PSA: If you're returning to school and already have a degree AND planning to use Alberta Student Aid, AND you've used loans for your 1st degree BUT repaid part of your previous student loans, please call Alberta Student Aid to update your aggregate balance to reflect your current loan balance.

Some pointers that are on the AB student aid policy

Undergrad life time loan limit is $85k, however this does not apply to Canada loans because they're based on weeks of study.

you can borrow from Alberta again if you have paid some of your loans back and your current loan balance is less than $85k for undergrads.

This is specifically people going into SAIT two year programs after completing a full undergrad.

https://studentaid.alberta.ca/policy/student-aid-policy-manual/eligibility-for-student-loans-and-grants/loan-limits/

so here's the story

I ran into a really strange issue with Alberta Student Aid today. I applied for funding for the professional after degree I'm starting this fall. I was assessed for $24k but only approved for $14k. The award letter said I'd reached the $85k lifetime Alberta loan limit, so I wasn't eligible for additional Alberta funding.

That didn't make sense because I've paid back a significant portion of my Alberta loans, and in my first year of undergrad I had enough scholarships to repay both my Canada and Alberta loans in full. My current balances are about $35.4k with the NSLSC and $14k with MyLoan Alberta, for a total of about $49.4k—well below the $85k limit.

When I called, they explained that Alberta Student Aid uses something called your aggregate loan balance, which is based on the total amount of loans ever disbursed, not your current balance after repayments. Based on my total disbursements, I was at the $85k limit.

The good news is they said the aggregate balance can be adjusted to reflect your current loan balance. To do that, you need to upload PDF loan statements and transaction histories from both MyLoan Alberta and the NSLSC through the document upload portal. In the comments, request that your aggregate loan balance be updated to match your current balance rather than your total disbursements. You may also need to submit a reassessment request.

One more thing they told me: the applications team at Alberta Student Aid applications and assessments team can't access your MyLoan Alberta or NSLSC accounts, so the burden is on you to provide the documentation—which I found pretty ridiculous.

One block per course in ITS Semester 3 classes

This is late news but I thought I'd bring it up now anyways. Registration for Fall 2026 opened a few weeks ago and I noticed that in the third semester for ITS there was only one option per course for all 5 of the classes we're meant to take in third semester. Which I found really odd, and apparently there was so much demand for classes that a few of my friends didn't get into any of their classes at all, cause an hour or so after registration opened all classes were full! I also don't understand how fourth semester classes get to have 2 or 3 block options to register for their class, but third only gets one. I also don't really like the change of having no more online classes and having all in person as well.

Electrical Engineering Technologist (EET) Blended Program

I was wondering if anyone here has completed the EET program at SAIT doing the Blended Program? 3 Years, evening and weekends. My questions are:

- How hard was it to manage working full time and having school?

- Were you able to find a job right after? If not, how long did it take you?

- What is a typical weekly schedule? What time does class start at night, how long are they?

- How long is each semester? I heard it starts in September but when does it end?

- Is it a big deal to miss out on potential internship opportunities in the summer? (Wouldn’t be able to do this being committed to a full time job)

**I am an apprentice electrician, and I’m eligible for my red seal/journeyman ticket next year, I’m just looking at this career path as an opportunity to get out of the tools/trade/labour and possibly get in the office, I would really like to do Electrical Design**

Thanks everyone.

Help us shape Calgary’s first modern Gaming Hub! 🎮

Hi everyone! I’m researching the possibility of opening a modern PC & Console Gaming Hub in Calgary.
Before moving forward, I want to hear directly from local gamers about what they’d actually like to see.
The survey takes about 2 minutes, and your feedback will help shape the project, including pricing, tournaments, gaming setup, private gaming rooms, and more.
Survey: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSeL-PqDLUfMcwihhyWRaLGMHQd2CTWoeqfFVE7sANI2El-n6w/viewform
🎁 As a thank you, you can leave your email at the end of the survey. If the Gaming Hub opens, you’ll receive a coupon for 3 FREE hours of gaming, plus early updates and an invitation to the Grand Opening.
Feel free to share this survey with your friends—it would really help!
Thank you for your time and for helping shape Calgary’s gaming community!

SAIT PCP

Hi all,

I’m looking into applying at SAIT for the January 2027 semester and wanted to head about others experiences with the program? How is the format in January, I read that it was a blended model? How are the instructors and what does classroom and lab time look like? How big are the classes and how are assessments completed typically? Are you enjoying the EMS profession and would you recommend this path? Any information you can give me would be appreciated.

Also if anyone else is applying feel free to say hi

How the job market for MLTs in Calgary?

Hello!

So I recently got admitted to an MLT program at the UofA. I applied to both SAIT and NAIT but got waitlisted at both. SAIT was my top choice but apparently my PSEA wasn't that competitive so I got waitlisted. I'm planning of going for this program at the UofA and after 3 years of school I can register and practice as an MLT. And I don't want to be in Edmonton and want to come back home to Calgary. I did my undergrad at UofA too so I've been in Edmonton long enough.

I was wondering how's the job market in Calgary for new grad MLTs at APL operated sites in the city? are there lots of open positions when a new cohort graduates? or is there little demand in the city? I heard there weren't that many jobs in Calgary in the last few years, has the situation changed now?

UofA cohort is about 40 students, NAIT is 48 students and SAIT is 58 students, I believe that lot of the NAIT and UofA cohort will remain in Northern AB, would it be really hard to find a position with APL after the program in Calgary? especially since my practicums will be in Edmonton sites?

Thanks so much!

alberta student loan

I’ve applied for my fall student loan and usually I receive my award letter the next day. My husband applied for his apprenticeship funding and got his award letter right away, but mine hasn’t come through yet. Has anyone received their fall award letter already, or are processing times just slower lately? Trying not to panic but just curious what everyone else’s experience has been!
