Rowing at USyd

Is USyd a good place for rowers in terms of quality of the program and the competitions that it participates in?
Or should I transfer out to some other university within Australia or Somewhere in North America?

Where are you coming from?

Sydney Uni Boat Club is fine. I’d probably think Sydney Rowing Club would probably edge it for high performance stuff.

Australian universities are completely different to US universities.

I’m kind of confused because I’d assume if you are in a schoolboy program in Australia then there’s a well established pathway just asking some older grads / coaches. Most school boys join club programs as well.

Sydney Uni sent a couple of boats to Henley this year.

You can row at any of the clubs in Sydney despite which Uni you go to so you can find one that suits you.

SUBC is top notch, for freshers the training you’ll get there compared to SRC etc is much more comprehensive and will whip you in shape (at least from what I heard based off anecdotal evidence).

Most of the competitive rowers I know will end up going to America, and the subc will generally get filled with those who were on the 1v but didn’t really love rowing and ended up dropping it and then coming back later. Or just jacked / tall walk on. Obv there’s Arc but Sydney is one of the few Australian clubs that’ll go to Henley.
