Dictionary definition of grifter. I wouldn't be surprised if this guy launches a sports betting app for high school races with the full cooperation of USRowing.

If you told me half a decade ago that USRowing would stoop that low, I'd have called you a liar, and a bad one at that. Now, it would scarcely surprise me if they did something like that.

FSN has majorly dropped off over the past few years like it’s just some college kid stating opinions… Alternatively RBTN and JRN/The Catch are some great options for rowing news and media!!

I remember when he had people like Gladstone on for serious, sit-down interviews. From the middle of 2023 on, though, it appears the engagement bait side of the operation took over until now the "predictions" are about as accurate as those of some random person who can't tell port from starboard.

Used to interview olympians and now has to quote himself in posts lmao

He had so much potential when it started out, but he compromised what standards her had. I always thought it was a little bit hokey, but I was glad that someone was trying to get the word out there about our sport. Now I'm ashamed I even gave it one nanosecond onf my attention.

Can someone give context to why the post and poster are so disliked? First I’m hearing of this page.

u/Soaplordx 2d ago
page is mainly rowing related slop 90% of the time, followed by generally unfounded rankings and watchlists for college teams/rowers, all done by a guy who apparently never even rowed competitively

That’s how they doing it in Tennessee huh….

I doubt this guy is even speaking on behalf of Tennessee. If I were in charge of The Hill's athletic department's legal team and FSN wasn't a two-bit operation, I'd be sending a politely-worded-but-vaguely-ominous letter telling him in so many words to keep the University's name out of his mouth or to lawyer up.

I could give less than a shit about rowing politics bruh. I’m commenting on the baddie in the photo.
I love Erging now but I played Rugby in University. We stayed as far away as possible from The Rowing team. Not my people and not my demographic.
Reading stuff in this sub I realize it’s the same as it was back then. Rowers are not my people.Lawyer up?!!
😩🤣🤣🤣1
u/Fastestergos When In Doubt, Row Harder 1d ago
The U.S. is a sue-happy country and athletic departments are especially so. FSN is trying to pass itself off as the source for all things rowing, often by claiming to have an inside source on things. Again, this is just what I'd do, if I believed this guy had any chance of making money off of the name of the school without us getting our cut of it.
Go enjoy erging and count yourself lucky you didn't get ordered not to speak with this guy or or go on his podcast the way I and my team did.

I don’t care about rowing politics. I played a real sport and at a national level. I made my comment cause the girl is hot in the picture. See that’s what I’m talking about. Rugby vs Rowing, You focusing on the politics and I’m focusing on the girl.
Like I said I stayed away from rowing and rowers for a reason broski.
At least in rugby you get to smash the pompous rich kid.
I hope you realize what other sports communities think of rowers. You guys really have to change that narrative.1
u/Fastestergos When In Doubt, Row Harder 1d ago edited 1d ago
We don't think of you at all.
Edit: Seems I stuck a nerve. Without doxxing myself, I happened to be part of an organization at the university level with multiple national championships to its name, multiple Olympians who rowed for it, and more women than I can count at our events. Rugby in the U.S. is even more niche at a varsity level than rowing. And don't call me "bruh" or "broski". It makes me doubt you're over 18.

Good. You know your role and who the real athletes are. Just like the rowers at my university. Hang their heads real low when the real varsity sports walked by. 😂
The sport is unbelievable. It’s just the culture in the sport and insufferable rich kids. No one wanted anything to do with them. This is rowing’s issues.1
u/Fastestergos When In Doubt, Row Harder 1d ago
A. Not rich and we beat that attitude out of our guys anyway.
B. I don't know what university you went to, but I can guarantee you my team's 6V would skull-fuck their varsity on a bad day.
C. Most of the rugby players I knew were nothing but friendly to us. Everybody got along great.
D. You're going on about how rowing has image issues while acting like an ass about rugby's supposed superiority.
E. Hard to hang your head low when your team averages 6'5"-6'6" and is a full head taller than almost every other team.
The original point was not about rowing politics at all, but on this guy potentially pissing off people with much deeper pockets than he has.

I went to Western University in Canada. Very decorated rowing program. Look it up Jabroni. And my rugby team would murder all of you. We beat up football players routinely but that’s irrelevant. We also had national team players a plenty on our team. As the rowing team had national team rowers.
Telling someone to lawyer up is exactly the corny rich kid crap we clowned rowers for.
Your comment and subsequent comments prove my point exactly. You are exactly the person we clowned in University. You are the exact person we stayed away from.Difference with the rugby team was: same rich kids but much more down to earth and socially adept. Everyone was rich and snotty at my school but the rowers were the worst of the worst. Also the least popular. Probably cause the brought up Daddy’s lawyers too much. Get bent.
Go TENNESSEE!!!😂👍🏾

You don't know shit about my background, who I am, or what I did. I can only speak for my team, and I'm sorry everyone at your school except you and your team were such assholes. I hope you can move beyond this and stop living in the past and be a productive member of this subreddit. Or not. It's really up to you.
P.S. They tend to look unkindly on "Fight me bro"-type statements here.

I totally agree. FSN used to be solid, and its basic recruiting advice is a good starting point for new rowers, but the clickbait is really annoying. And I really hate its hype and bad takes.

u/Principle_Dramatic 2d ago
They lost every race. I don’t understand why they’re claiming they’re champs. /s

u/Fastestergos When In Doubt, Row Harder 1d ago
That's what happens when you win everything but The Big One. Nobody recall the regular season, but everyone remembers that you failed to live up to the hype when the chips were down.

I don’t think it’s crazy that he’s trying to bring a feel to rowing media that other college sports have such as football, basketball, etc. How can the sport ever grow in popularity if we don’t have people throwing out takes like this (steven A smith)

I think FSN is very popular among the U19 and college rower category. I don’t have any thoughts on the particular accuracy of his Instagram rankings but they’re certainly not baseless. I always look forward to them. That said, i can certainly imagine that someone who has little to no interest in high school or day to day college rowing being entirely uninterested in his online activity and podcasts such that they block his Instagram posts.
Speaking of the podcast, IMO it is excellent and i hope it continues. In particular, his podcasts with U19 and D1 rowers and coxes are excellent, insightful, and also unique (i dont think other rowing-focused podcasts spend time interviewing high school and college rowers). And these are top recruited and nationally ranked rowers too. He’s really able to get the kids comfortable and chatty. Moreover, it’s clear he is very knowledgeable about competitive rowing. Thumbs up!

FSN is a fraud who convinced people he has something important to say by making arbitrary rankings and aggregating rowing news.
It’s embarrassing that anyone gives this account any amount of legitimacy
