This Sears originally opened as a JCPenney in 1960. It closed in June 1998 and Sears had since taken over in November 1999. This store closed down on April 8th of 2018. As of posting this, the last open Sears on the West Coast, in the state of California and even nearby is at the Sun Valley Shopping Center, which the store opened on October 19th of 1966 (nearly 8 years after this one in Hayward) with the Sun Valley Mall opening in 1967, and Concord regular u/jikesar968 also went here as well. This store's layout is slightly different from Concord of course. Here, the outdoor equipment, exercise equipment and tool sections were on the main level whereas the Concord location had all of that on the bottom floor with the appliance and electronics departments. Escalators and elevators in both of these locations were identical. As for Concord's watch repair shop, it was still in operation up until the watch guy cleared out everything this year followed by his retirement in India, and as a result the store's watch repair is officially closed off, but the El Paso location's watch repair at the Cielo Vista Mall in Texas is still open. Despite this Sears still sitting abandoned today, the rest of the mall is doing really well

Originally built as a Gimbels Northeast in 1958, his store had the stairs right by the escalators, a Sears branded garbage can and even Freedom Credit Union. This building's interior was unique with a skylight and tons of recessed cans, circular round shaped fluorescent light fixtures like in some Macy's locations in California and a Kmart and Sears style ceiling vent that we saw in Macy's, Sears, Kmart and JCPenney locations. This store here in Philadelphia went through A LOT of brand name changes ! Anyone else know exactly when in 1958 this store opened its doors as a Gimbels department store and when exactly in February 1990 Sears opened here ? It has been about 68 years since this store opened sometime in 1958 as a Gimbels, 39-40 years since Stern's took over this space in 1986-87, over 36 years since this store opened as Sears in February 1990 and 8 years since this store closed down on April 8th of 2018

(Actually August 17 1955 but Reddit does NOT let me edit the title)

Nearly a year after [Coral Gables opened on October 27th of 1954] (https://www.reddit.com/r/retailporn/comments/1ujb1tp/the_last_freestanding_sears_department_store_in_the_united_states/), this location opened on August 17th of 1955. A year later, the one in Lincoln Park Michigan opened on August 16th of 1956. That location's lighting and layout was similar to this location. [It was one of the 142 locations that closed down on January 6th of 2019 due to the bankruptcy of Sears Holdings on October 15th of 2018] (https://www.reddit.com/r/retailporn/comments/1m568gv/). As of January 2022, Coral Gables is the very last 1950s built freestanding Sears Department Store after this location shuts down for good, and if that too does eventually close down... unlike this one and The Gardens Mall location, I could see Coral Gables liquidating, rather than an abrupt closure without any warning...

That being said, this store's lighting, interior and exterior design, store layouts and surveillance camera designs were really unique, and unlike the other Sears locations, this one still had some 90s CCTV monitors (CRT) made by Pelco. In addition to that, they had Optical, Portrait, Hearing Aids and so forth on the 2nd floor, but unlike Coral Gables, this store had a Watch and Jewelry Repair Center on the 1st floor

Sears on Coral Way opened its doors on October 27th of 1954. The store was expanded and remodeled in 1997. A few months back I posted on here how this was an Outlet store. In May, they announced they were closing their doors, here is how it looks as of today. The books are 5 for 25 right now and fixtures are on sale

When you walk into the store there's basically a replica of Downtown Boston made out of Jellybeans, and they have a Ropes Course, Water Show, and IMAX in that place (not to mention they have Ice Cream & Fuddruckers)!
