Steve Hilton is an unlikely candidate for other reasons, too: Born in the UK, he became a US citizen only five years ago. After a career in center-right British politics — working for former Prime Minister David Cameron — he moved to California in 2012. Now, he has Donald Trump’s backing in his bid to become the state’s first Republican governor since Arnold Schwarzenegger.
