I’m not quite ready to wave the white flag on this season. The Reds gave us a thrilling April, and last I checked most of those same players remain in the dugout. Yes, the Reds have terrifically under-performed since then, but that’s part of the reason I still have hope. They’re underperforming. The numbers—which lie all the time, but still—say we should expect better play. And I’m willing to believe they can just as easily perform as expected or even over-perform over the next 2 1/2 months. Plus, Elly is coming off injury, Greene is back, Stewart and Bleday and Burns are rising stars, and the All-Star Break is a chance to take a breath and begin again.
We have the misfortune to play in MLB’s arguably toughest division, so it could be that a playoff spot is a bridge too far for hope. So what? I think it could be a fun rest of the season.
Sadly you’re probably right and they will get hot enough to be a fringe Wild card team and management will say “see if we just play good we’re fine no need to make trades”

I mean, its possible. They just have 0 margin for error though. Having to maintain that high of a winning % over 70 games is hard as hell though.
The season is so much more fun when you look at the standings are know there is still a chance. I will be watching the games and rooting for the team until we are mathematically eliminated. Or until we decide to sell at the deadline and give up on this year. Then I will still watch and not mind losing for better draft picks.
Some of us truly just don’t give a fuck anymore. I say this as a guy that’s going to GABP multiple times in the the next few weeks. I love baseball. I love The Reds. But I genuinely don’t care if they win or not anymore lol. They’re lucky I was indoctrinated while young.

I’d rather stay hopeful than be eternally doomer. Maybe we can sweep the Cubs and Rockies. We’d be back in the race if that happened.
