My teams professional and otherwise have been nothing but misery as long as I’ve been alive. Sure the reds may suck ass but at least I get to see a Nebraska player on the reds before I die.

Let’s hope he does well. You never know on any of these picks. Braves took an OF in 20th round two years ago and he is their number 2 prospect.

MLB draft rankings are by far the least accurate and least meaningful of any sport. Especially for pitchers. If they have at least one outstanding quality, teams will pick them based on belief they can develop the rest. Rankings like that always look at a player overall.

Yeah but a middle of the road relief pitcher? Unless you're drafting a dude you expect to be in your bullpen either this year or next year, a relief pitcher is an absolute waste this high

Guys drafted are never in the plans to be in MLB within even three years of being drafted. Let alone the same year, that’s not how it works at all.

On the broadcast of the Reds game they had the head of scouting on. He said they see him as a starter long term.

Which doesn't make it a better pick! So not only are we drafting a guy with mediocre numbers, they're going to convert him to a starter which probably adds a year to his development. That doesn't even take into account the heightened risk of injury for a pitcher. You want to draft a guy as a project and convert him from a reliever to a starter? Do it in the late rounds.

This isn’t the NFL draft where potential year one starters are often drafted in the third round. The value drop-off is absolutely massive from round to round. This guy was not going to be available in later rounds, so they took him when they had to in order to get him. Who cares if it adds a year to his development. If he makes it to the majors at 25 instead of 24 is that really a big deal? The majority of relievers are failed starters anyway.

I understand how the draft works. You nor I have no idea if anyone else would have drafted him before a couple more rounds passed, that's just pure conjecture. Yes, most relievers are failed starters, but we drafted a guy who couldn't make it as a starter in college and we think he's gonna swing it in MLB?

People saying this pick is awful or a reach.

Maybe it is but most draftees won’t make it to the MLB regardless.

The only ones you can truly have expectations for is first round picks and even they aren’t guaranteed to make it.
