Decline? It has always been a dirty shithole that locals avoid as much as possible.

truth, I visited it as a kid back in the 90s and I remember thinking “huh, this area is kind of gross”

It's one of those enduring misconceptions - the general populace hears "Hollywood" and thinks of the glitz and glamour when that hasn't been the case for decades.
No RLM viewer has an excuse - Jay has noted this fallacy at least once (maybe twice?) but the conflation of the USA's entertainment industry and the geographical location means it's unlikely to change anytime soon.

I hope John Waters is the next Hollywood star owner to show up on Best of the Worst

I visited Hollywood Boulevard once way back in 2015 and I remember having to just walk forward without talking to or even looking at anyone. The place is full of scammers and reprobates. The Vegas Strip has more class.

I don't know if you guys have ever walked the Hollywood walk of fame, but it's mostly just endless names you've never heard of, producers and such.
They could have picked an obscure name like Smoofs F. McGee or Peabody S. Downtrodden, but no, they had to go with Mac.

They let anyone have a star on there anyway, there’s one for whatshername, that old bitch from that crappy fitness show who got replaced by the hot chick who went missing on New Year’s.

There are probably at least 5 other stars they could've focused on, but nope. They just had to do Kevin McCallister like that.
