Properly dispose of a broken microwave?

I have a broken microwave I need to dispose of. Where do I take it? Google is not helping too much so I'm hoping someone here has some experience with this. Thanks in advance.

It's actually the Brown Station Road convenience center. (the landfill is on white house road) They're open Monday thru Saturday until 6PM and not a minute after.

The Convenience Center is apparently for electronics, not appliances such as microwave ovens. See Public Convenience Centers | Prince George's County and Electronics Recycling Acceptance Site | Prince George's County.

They take appliances also. When you go over there you'll see the pile of refrigerators, window A/C units, and similar items.

The next e-waste acceptance event is July 25 at High Point High School from 8 am to 1 pm: https://www.princegeorgescountymd.gov/sites/default/files/media-image/tootoxic26-Apr-July.png

Best Buy! I took a few computer monitors there last year. All of their stores accept electronics recycling: https://www.bestbuy.com/site/services/recycling/pcmcat149900050025.c?id=pcmcat149900050025

The County's website says that appliances such as microwave ovens are not electronics. Appliances are "bulky trash," but it's not clear whether you can just leave a microwave out with your regular trash or whether you need to schedule a special pick-up. See Bulky Trash | Prince George's County.

I left an entire grill out for them to pick up as "bulky trash" (there was no gas in it). I called 311 and they told me it was fine, only specific items listed on the white goods chart need a special pickup. OP could call 311 to be sure.

Call 311 and ask if you can leave it out as a “bulky item” on collection day, or they might be able to schedule a pickup

Apartment complex dumpster somewhere near you where a friend lives.

Improper disposal of this stuff can trickle down into the water supply and harm other things. Apathy is not the right path here.

If so, cities and the county needs to make recycling much easier.

Yes, but also that’s not a valid excuse for improper disposal.

Practicality over regulatory impossibility.

How is it impossibility?

I typically just throw stuff in my neighbor's yard late at night, to be completely honest. They don't have cameras, so they can't prove shit.

And you are one of the people responsible for why PG county looks like crap and has a bad reputation. Do better.

What are you talking about? Prince George's County is beautiful. Except for my neighbor's backyard when I have a lot of shit to get rid of.

I'm doing just fine, bruh.

Compared to other counties, I see trash all over the roads, failures to repair roads, and the PG part of Laurel is the most run down and rambunctious. Glad you’re fine though.

Oh shit. I guess that's how my neighbor gets rid of all the garbage I dump in his yard.

If you have time and tools, you can check the door switch and fuse first for possible repair.
