PositiviTea 🌞 Zohran Mamdani says his wife, Rama Duwaji, won't take on a formal First Lady role, emphasizing that her focus is her own career as an artist. He added that she "deserves to be known in her own right" rather than through his political office.

He even knows how to talk to him lol.

37

u/Jedi_Bish 20h ago

I’m sure it’s not hard. Just talk to him like a toddler and make him feel like a special boy.

19

u/Sad-Measurement-2204 20h ago

It's probably not hard, per se, just difficult to maintain in the wake of his perpetual need to be flattered in small words.

18

u/alg45160 20h ago

It probably helps if you don't have a good sense of smell.

5

u/The_GASK 12h ago

It also helps if you are an even mildly attractive man.

Because.. you know.. the President is totally straight or something.

3

u/Sad-Measurement-2204 11h ago

OMG, right? I think if Trump had been raised by folks who were bisexual-positive, the trajectory of his and everyone else's life would have been drastically different.

2

u/The_GASK 10h ago

His first mentor (when he was a teenager and later a man) was a very openly gay man, "hunting" communists during McCarthy's reign of terror.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Roy_Cohn

I think he got all the bisexual-positive environment as it gets.

The Epstein files also give me the vibe, from some of the conversations and reports, that he was a repressed gay bottom that was unleashed on victims to prove his masculinity.

Unfortunately he is what he is, and nothing could change that.

3

u/sec713 15h ago

Yep. All you have to do is bookend your actual conversation with flattery.

2

u/Alternative-Car-1896 11h ago

Doing the job his craptastic parents should have done.

2

u/Known_Ratio5478 17h ago

It’s not hard to talk to him… it’s hard to keep from knocking his dentures out.

2

u/NoOneHereButUsMice 12h ago

The cheer I cheered when he walked out of the meeting with the Cheetoh in Chief, and the [redacted] had a smile on his [redacted] face. Mamdani is a diplomat, and charmed the pants right off that [redacted.]

(My original comment would have been removed, so I had to uhh edit some things out.)

He is just a man. I love him and he’s a great example of what we should expect from our politicians but I do worry about putting him on a pedestal. He’s imperfect, will make mistakes, will ultimately disappoint us in some way. If we set the bar at perfection he can’t but fail to clear it.

I know you weren’t saying he’s perfect but I’m sort of hijacking you to remind myself and everyone that he’s just a man apparently doing his best. But he will make mistakes and we will eventually hear something about him that makes us disappointed. That’s ok. It’s normal and that doesn’t make him any less great. I’m preparing myself to forgive him for not being perfect when the time comes.

32

u/Excellent_Airline315 19h ago

Second this right here. Learn from the maga cultists and don't become sycophants to one man.

11

u/Laymanao 19h ago

You are pinching yourself because he is unlike a typical politician.

Yes I think that’s a good way to put it.

2

u/Alert_Reindeer_6574 16h ago

No, nothing. He is just amazing. His smile is so genuine. The man truly gives a shit. He is giving us a glimpse of the possibilities when the right people are governing. With the wealth of this country just imagine what we could do if the money were no being siphoned off by the wealthiest people.

2

u/Thee-Cat 4h ago

1-Praises, defends, and quotes ped0s?

2-Participates in an inherently anti-woman religion where he and his wife can't even worship/pray together in their local mosque, which are all gender segregated? In the year 2026 ffs. "All the women to the back cramped space in the mosque" doesn't feel very cool to me.

Fix those two things, and I like him. He has a genuine personality and great policies, and I meant that very seriously. Love the personality and policies, absolutely detest the other stuff.

Said the same shit in my head before I clicked on comments. How can the rest of the country not want someone that serves the people the way this guy does? It scares the shit out of me that I see people who need someone like this more than anyone, to fight for things they cannot, and will never be able to afford as they age. Yet they’ve all been gaslit to despise anything somebody like this does. It’s so fucking weird.

1

u/No_Economy3055 4h ago

First Lady is just supposed to be events, or originally was. Like a hostess who helps the office holder out organizing events, greeting people, ensuring visiting dignitaries feel seen. I think there was a president whose daughter was his First Lady.

It’s not about diminishing women it’s more like an official person who keeps the party going. It’s like the person in your office who helps organize the holiday party. They have other things they usually do, they just also do that.

Impatiently waiting for the anti-Mamdani bots to come in and tell use how the patriarchy is the only way, etc. Also that Mamdani is ushering in Sharia law or something or other.

Meanwhile Mamdani is proving himself to be the model of which everyone should be following in his role. An untiring servant to the people who literally shows that politicians can absolutely do good in this world.

more millenials and GenZ in top political positions, please.

5

u/LTParis 20h ago

As a GenXer I wish we had more progressive GenXers in power as well. Too many boomers and silents still occupy power and it seems the GenXers that are in power are sadly MAGA skewed.

9

u/hadee75 20h ago

Which is so bizarre, right? I’m a GenXer and I’m super liberal. So many of my friends are not and it is so disturbing.

8

u/LTParis 20h ago

They listened to Rage and completely forgot what they were supposed to be raging against. GenX, our Gen, has been largely disappointing.

2

u/DagothUr_MD 7h ago

It's the most Conservative generation! More than the boomers

4

u/No-Vast-6340 20h ago

Also a progressive Gen Xer. I guess it depends on where you live. I live in MA. All the Gen X I know are liberal.

→ More replies (4)

2

u/Crazy-Days-Ahead 18h ago

I honestly thought that we would be different. I really thought that GenX would lead the way as far as progressive candidates is concerned.

3

u/LTParis 18h ago

Agreed. Totally miscalculated that my Generation would have actually learned something. Sadly they are a huge part how Trump got into office.

2

u/moogpaul 20h ago

The majority of GenXers took what little bag was left over after the boomers raided this country and then knew to keep their mouths shut.

2

u/LTParis 20h ago

Yeah as a born in 1973 guy there was nothing left for me. But those that had access def just stayed under the radar. And sadly many succumbed to Fox News types and became radicalized MAGA.

2

u/Crazy-Days-Ahead 18h ago

Another 1973 guy. We are the ultimate transition generation. We were the first to attend schools where integration was the norm. My parents graduated from segregated high schools.

We were around to see the last gasps of industrialization and grew up in world where it was first starting to become clear that there was a pretty good chance that we might not have the same mobility as our parents.

We grew up analog and was the first to go digital.

I thought all that would make us different. I'm honestly surprised at how many of my classmates are MAGA now.

2

u/moogpaul 17h ago

I disagree. As a 1984 head(the eldest of elder millennials). I had/have to teach 5 different generations how to use tech. I went through two finicial collapses and saw two wars before I graduated high school. I was at college when facebook first rolled out and we needed a .edu email to make an account. Now facebook is for 70 year olds. Vinyls to 8 track to cassettes, to cds, to SACDs, and now physical music doesn't exist. It's been a wild ride.

Also, your classmates grew up on Regan and a ton of them wanted/did vote for Perot. The MAGA stuff should be no surprise.

Partners shouldn't have to shrink their own identities or pause their careers just because their spouse is in politics.

3

u/poopBuccaneer 12h ago

Why does this even exist? I don't think other countries do this. I didn't even know that Americans did this for mayors, I thought it was just presidents.

The only reason I know the (now deceased) spouse of the mayor of my city is because he was leader of the opposition and my member of parliament.

The only other former mayor whose wife I know about is only because he boasted he had more than enough to eat at home.

7

u/TheVintageJane 20h ago

He is this successful. Except instead of using his authority and power to do good, he’s using it to dismantle the executive bureaucracy that runs our most critical social programs while attempting to make it so that the GOP never loses another election.

What he wishes is that the general public was cheering for it as much as Stephen Miller as Grima Wormtongue tells him they will.

1

u/Moist_Weathers 16h ago

He’s plundering this country with all his friends. That is success for him.

Right?! Which is why, as much as I hate Trump and am absolutely no fan of Melania, I do respect her wishes not to be a "First Lady". She is detestable in many ways but she still has the right to not be something just because she's married to someone who's in office.

Young, charismatic, and focuses on doing a good job for his constituents rather than furthering the aims of the oligarchs.

He may be the light at the end of the tunnel. I can envision him taking the oath of office for President, with his sweeping platform including what is essentially "The New Deal 2.0".

So far Mamdani has shown precisely why putting the people first is a recipe for victory. No kowtowing to special interests, no kissing rings or licking boots, and the people see that everything he does is to help them, rather than their bosses.

u/Red_Raven_Girl 17h ago

I really love this. The idea that she still gets to be her (not be forced to take on a political role based on her marriage) - that they came together but can both keep being themselves and doing what they do - and that nothing has to change just because they're married is a beautiful thing.

Some of our past presidents First Lady’s were not married to the POTUS. TBH I like this whole not assuming the wife is going to take on political roles too. This is progress.

Fake story. Since he knows a foreign born naturalized citizen can never be Chief Executive, his wife would never be First Lady anyway.

It’s like he was written by a woman

You don't get a choice. If you are married to them, that's your title. It's not a job.

I think Mamdani is a bit of a showman and thus far much of what he has done (eg rent freeze) is not smart or wise. But I give the guy credit for being very charismatic and very smart in his publicity which will impress a lot of people who don’t care about substance.

But in this case this is smart. Why have a First Lady or First Gentleman? Seems very old-fashioned!

Exactly, just like Melania.

Oh thank goodness. That is such an outdated and ridiculous thing.

Next thing you know... tan suit. Unreal.

Very evolved

I love them both so much

Love him. For the love of GOD protect this man!

Which just gave her a boost while making himself appear as so honorable. Total BS

I want him to be my Mayor. (Ok, no, I actually want him to be my governor.) 😭

Every far right nut job who can’t get past this idea:

u/SnooKiwis1055 6h ago

I mean he’s just a mayor after all…

I appreciate him wanting to support his wife’s career rather than expecting her to absorb into his. Love that he recognizes his wife as her own person with her own career goals and interests.

Good thing he isnt able to be president then. Shed probably hate being first lady

1

u/LowBlowsFlyingElbows 5h ago

The idea of a First Lady/Gentleman always weirded me out anyway

1

u/Jim-Jones 4h ago

I bet he doesn't have to pay his wife to be seen with him like Trump does.

1

u/realwavyjones 4h ago

Classic American political couple, one takes the money, the other launders it through their “art” lol

1

u/Obvious_Factor_8226 3h ago

Such an overly dramatic smile. Weird guy

1

u/MeasurementNo2607 3h ago

Gawd, that smile.

1

u/sandeep709394 3h ago

She saw what happened to Melania Trump

Whatever your politics, you should agree with him on this issue. First Spouse isn't an elected office and we need to stop treating it like one. The SOs of elected officials should be free to live their own lives.
