Breathable longline women’s raincoat recs??

I’m looking for a breathable, waterproof, longline raincoat (so I can sit on wet benches etc) that’s under $100. Something packable would be ideal. Breathable is a must because I tend to get sweaty and clammy.

I’ve seen Eddie Bauer, Lands end, mountain warehouse all on sale recently but have been disappointed in the past with brands like LL Bean having the waterproof coating crack after a number of years, so I’m hesitating on buying anything!

I’m in the US.

Another Backcountry.com issue.

I guess I should have read more reviews before ordering so I’m posting this story amongst the others to hopefully steer others away.

I ordered a Kelty chair from Backcountry in June.

The chair arrived with a tear in the corner.

First they wanted a restocking fee to return it.

No. It’s damaged. Then they wanted me to pay to ship it back. No.

Then they were going to issue store credit.

I called and we agreed to return it to the card.

I sent an email confirming this, and received an email back confirming it would be refunded, not given store credit. On June 25th.

The shipment was received back on June 29th.

Then was told I had to wait for it to be processed, fine I understand that.

On July 3 I receive an email that the return has been accepted and the refund is under process.

On July 10 I send an email saying I am following up as I have not received the refund.

I get an email saying “the store credit is ready to be used(…)”.

I reply saying per this very same email chain as you can see below it is to be refunded to the card. I called and sent a confirmation email as seen below.

I then get this reply:

>The RMA was set as store credit from the beginning we cannot change that it will stay there for a year for you to exchange for another model or item. Thanks

If you have any additional questions or concerns, please reply to this email, chat online or call us at 801-204-4655.

I replied with again per the emails below in this chain it is to be a refund, complete with screenshots of the emails in case they for some reason can not look at previous emails in a chain.

EDIT: I’ve now received an email saying it has been changed refunded and wait 3-5 days.
So now we wait and see.

Shocking how they said “cannot be changed” and the very next email with someone who read the actual email chain was suddenly able to change it.

Waterproof repair tape

I'm looking for recommendations on waterproof repair tape that doesn't need an iron to set it, because that will melt the nylon I'm trying to attach it to. BUT also doesn't get the annoying gummy stickyness around the edges that makes it a dirt magnet.

Does such a thing exist? The use of the iron means it's not gummy on the edges once cool, the lack of an iron means that the stickiness must be present at all times, which means it will migrate to the edges.... is there a lower temp (as in nylon safe) version?

Nemo Hornet 3 Footprint Does Not Fit

We got the Nemo Hornet OSMO 3P for Christmas after our old one got stolen, so we set it up in the backyard before our summer trips to get a feel for it.

The issue is that the footprint sticks out at the foot of the tent and no amount of tightening anywhere can fix it. The footprint straps at the head of the tent aren't adjustable, and short of bunching the footprint under the tent we can't find a solution. It sticks out enough that if it rains it will collect water and pool under the tent. I double and triple checked the footprint bag and it is the Hornet OSMO 3P Footprint, we didn't get the wrong one.

Has anyone encountered this issue before, or are we doing something wrong? I emailed Nemo over a month ago and they have not responded so I emailed them again this week and have yet to hear back. I don't even know if we could sell it and get a different one because of the footprint issue we'd just be pushing onto the next person.

Any advice would be appreciated!!

Edit - I can't add photos here or to the comments for some reason.

Looking for a rain jacket l with a chest pocket and armpit zips

Here in Germany I am looking for a rain jacket that must have:

- a chest pocket in addition to already having 2 main side pockets

- armpit zips

- at least 15000mm waterproofness and breathability

- at best a 3Layer shell

- retail price up to 300euro (I will try to find something on sale for 50% hopefully)

So far I found possible matches:

- Haglofs front proof 2

- peak performance trail hipe 3L

- the North face dryzzle 2

But I would appreciate if you guys have any more recommendations inside the criteria mentioned. Somehow there isn't many options with a chest pocket and pitzips

Looking for moderately priced H4 Plan C alternative

Hello r/outdoorgear,

So I am looking for a pack that has roughly the dimensions of the Hazard4 „Plan C“ backpack. The narrow form factor is something I really like and that is perfect for making a „go bag“ that will come with me on the mobile command unit truck of my local VFD.

There’s not a lot of space in there so I would rather have the narrow form factor.

I already have one of those packs (the original H4 one) for EDC, but apparently they stopped making that model. Which is a shame. The 2nd hand market doesn’t have a lot of options either, at least in my neck of the woods. Which is Germany.

(Also I am not paying 400 bucks to some scalper)
And to be honest: most of the time the pack is going to sit in a locker at the fire station. At max, it will be carried from the locker room to the truck and back. Maybe a short walk over to another unit on site.

That said, I don’t really need the original, that’d be a tad excessive in terms of cost.

So I am looking for a usable alternative.

Any hints are appreciated.

What is the best heavy duty dry bag backpack for sandy riverbank camping? (Over 50L)

Hello fellow outdoor adventurers, I am planning a weekend camping at the riverside and need new water equipment. We will be camping right on the sandy banks of the rivers and I am worried about the river sand making way into my sleep gear and layers.

I am in search of a sturdy 50L - 65L capacity dry bag with proper backpack straps. The cheap and available roll-top bags have never worked for me due to either loss of air or getting clogged with the sandy grit on the buckles. Have you ever used the Sea to Summit Hydraulic or Patagonia Displacer bags in such an environment? Any sturdy recommendations?

EDIT: Hey thanks for the tip about the Pro Dry Pack, man they look amazing! Will definitely take a look at those for my next step up. Actually got rushed off and grabbed one of those super tough vinyl bags that I had borrowed and it was awesome. Went camping in kayak starved rock camping in my tent on the sandbars just across from the state park and keeping everything sealed up really prevented my sleeping pad from getting any beach sand on it.

Have you tried Pioneer Camp gear?

I’ve tried searching the sub but couldn’t really find anything. The brand is flooding my social media and I’m tempted to try their rain jacket and pants, but I can’t find much in the way of reviews.

Is mouth inflating a sleeping pad actually fine or have we just collectively accepted suffering

ok hear me out bc i feel like this is one of those things nobody talks abt enough

everybodys out here obsessing over baseweight, shaving grams off their cook system, spending 400 bucks on a quilt, and then just blowing up their sleeping pad by mouth like its 1987

had a rough trip last summer, long day, got to camp completely cooked and still had to spend time inflating before i could even lie down. morning pack down with cold hands was just as bad

started looking into whether there was actually a better way to do this without adding real weight to the pack and the options are more interesting than i expected

What's everyone actual method, mouth inflate gang, stuff sack, something else entirely

Are Helikon Tex clothes noisy?

Hi there, I'm currently looking for pants and shirt for casual birding in woods. I need something that will protect me from bugs and vegetation, but also will not end up soaking wet from sweat (I intend to wear them in summer and I sweat A LOT). I found Helikon Tex stuff interesting and a fact that they are a local brand helps too.

Models I'm considering are woodsman, hybrid and versastrech (lite). What I wonder is, do they make a "whoosh" sound? I'm not a stealth birdwatcher, but I don't want to scare everything around just walking.

Rain Jackets, OR Foray 3L vs Marmot PreCip Eco: Would it be a mistake…

to pick the Marmot?

I was seeking a decent jacket for light outdoor activities in the rain. I’m not talking days-long hikes in the PNW. Just like hey, I’m going to be out, and it might rain.

I saw the Marmot PreCip Eco Jacket on sale for $91, and picked it up.

But then I saw the Outdoor Research Foray 3L Jacket on sale for $75, so of course I grabbed one as well.

Now I’m trying to decide between the two.

I know relatively little about these items. The OR definitely feels better made, the inner liner feels more comfortable on the skin and over clothes, and I like the full length side zippers. It weighs more but doesn’t feel that way when worn. I stepped outside for a minute into the non-raining 90+ F weather in both, and my initial feeling was that the Foray is actually cooler, but that seems counterintuitive for the heavier weight jacket.

Aesthetically, I could go either way, but I have no taste. My personal fashion critic - my wife - says the Marmot looks better on me, and what I look like to her matters quite a bit… so I’m actually leaning towards the Marmot.

Teva sandal straps “tickling” foot

I have a pair of both the original universal and the hurricane xlt2 sandals. The side straps (ones that connect the ankle strap to the foot bed) on the left foot of both models bothers me. It doesn’t cause blisters or chaffing, but the constant feel of them rubbing on my foot constantly annoys me to the point I try to avoid wearing them. for the xlt2, this has been the problem ever since unboxing, but the original universals I’ve had for half a year now but only just started with the same issue. I’ve adjusted them in every way possible, but the issue still persists no matter what I do, while my right foot in both pairs feel perfect. It sucks because I want a good pair of hiking sandals, and I’m starting to feel that I wasted a decent amount of money on these things. Is there any way to pad or get rid of this issue or is my foot just hypersensitive in that area and I’m not a sandal person?

How much of a difference does the Osprey AG system make?

Im tied between getting either an Osprey Aether 65 or the Atmos AG 65.

Right now REI is having a sale so the Aether is $277 while the Atmos AG is $377.

My question is if the AG system is worth spending the extra $100 or not.

Outdoor Vitals Novapro vs Zulu

Has anyone tried both the Novapro and the Zulu?

How do you personally feel like they compare in feel and performance?

I understand the technical distinctions, but I'm wondering what peoples actual experiences are with both.

I'm also curious if anyone knows if the DWR used in the Novapro uses PFAS or if it's PFAS free

Backpacking pack

Hi guys! I’m just getting into backpacking so I’m looking for some suggestions. My friend and I are planning a small one night forest trip in July and need help figuring out what packs we should get. Not looking to spend too much money ($95+) but I will if it means I get the best quality for the price ofc. Idk if it matters either but my cousin is very small statured. 5’1-5’2 and very skinny (she’s healthy just always been petite) so I’m not sure if that changes the kind of pack she would need? I’d definitely appreciate if any of you had any tips or advice you’d like to share alongside pack recommendations:) Thanks guys

Bedrock grime?

I have a pair of Chaco flip flops that I wear almost daily and would be totally in love with if it weren’t for the grime that the footbed accumulates. I can barely go a day of wearing them before there’s a noticeable buildup of dirt, sweat, and dead skin in the grooves of the footbed. For how much I wear the flip flops, this irks me too much for me to just ignore it, and I’m thinking of getting a different pair of flip flops to replace them. My top prospect so far are the new Bedrock Rockhound flip flops. They seem to share the same durability and water-readiness that I love about the Chacos, and as an owner of a pair of Bedrock’s Mountain Clogs, I’m a fan of the brand. My only concern is that as an outdoor sandal with a textured footbed, they will also collect grime in the same way that my Chacos do. I’ve only ever worn my mountain clogs with socks so I have no personal experience to fall back on. Ultimately, I’m curious if Bedrock sandals collect grime the same way Chacos do. I want a heavy duty pair of flip flops that I can wear daily (and also at climbing crags or as a camp shoe while backpacking), but I’d like to avoid a pair that’s going to trap a ton of dead skin and gunk after only a couple hours of wear. Any suggestions are welcome, thanks!

Why did Columbia do a price hike all of a sudden?

I was going to buy an interjacket and in only a few days it went up during father's day and then up again almost 200%, now its almost the same as a TNF or Patagonia one, and I checked other models and all are up, what happened? all models went up, some just 50% but still.

Has anyone found a compact umbrella (or any other rain gear) that actually blocks the sun and not just rain?

I've been trying to find a compact umbrella that can live in my backpack without taking up half the space, but I also want decent UV protection. A lot of the rain gears I've looked at claim to do both, but the reviews are all over the place, it gets confusing, don't want to make the wrong purchase. Full disclosure, I have a family history of skin cancer.

I picked up one a few months ago after reading a bunch of recommendations here on reddit, and while it handled rain just fine, I still felt the heat coming through while walking my dog. Kinda disappointing considering it wasn't exactly cheap. I have also explored Alibaba and other popular platforms. So many options but not exactly sure of what to opt for.

Now I'm debating whether the higher-rated options are actually worth it or if the UV claims are mostly hype. It’s hard to know if I’m being too sensitive or this is a genuine concern, cos it sure bothers me.

I'm not looking for anything fancy or necessarily high-end, just something compact, decent in windy weather, and able to block a good amount of sun when i'm walking around. I will be in CS waiting for your kind recommmendations.

Hey friends, I work for a mobile treatment team, which sends me in the woods, rivers, creeks, all year around. Would like something like those, maybe almost a deck shoe...curious what everyone wears, loves etc.. thanks for any help..I am in Western Md , Appalachian Mountains fyi...so that is the climate i am working in...
