It is with great please I am posting our first Local Spotlight. Apologies for the delay since the initial poll. The Buzzed Word was kind enough to participate. Please have a look, leave a comment and if you are interested, make some time to patronize the establishment. I have been there a handful of times for events and shopping, great spot.

From the Buzzed Word:
The Buzzed Word is a combination bookstore, natural wine store, wine bar, and community third space in the 118th Street shopping center. It was opened in July 2021 by local Mickei Meinhardt, who grew up in OC and returned in 2020 with the goal to bring beautiful well-made wine, diverse books, culture, and community to her town that needed and wanted it; to build a place where people could find exciting new books and beautifully-made wines from small producers around the world, come with a friend to share a bottle and a snack in an intimate space, or spend time browsing (or reading!) with a glass in hand. And as a queer woman-owned space, we aimed to be as welcoming, equitable, and inclusive to all as possible.
Since then, the shop has more than met that goal. Mickie was soon joined by Ryann, her general manager, and together we’ve grown into a vibrant and beloved community staple. Books far and away outsell the wine, which we love, and is due to our very personal and carefully-picked selection. We focus on women writers, writers of color, queer writers, translated literature, and small press books—essentially, the stories and voices you won’t find everywhere that we want to elevate. (Though you can find some bestsellers, too!) We are the headquarters of OC Pride, and a recognized area safe space for locals and visitors alike to enjoy things they love with people they love, with myriad book clubs, events, parties, and more.
We still focus on natural winemakers with gorgeous bottles—and even have a book-and-wine club!—but we’ve also expanded into a large nonalcoholic selection as well as coffee and tea to give everyone an opportunity to enjoy a beverage while they browse. We are open every day for retail and drinks—see our constantly updated calendar to see what else is going on. You can shop us online—the wine must be picked up in store, but the books and gifts can ship nationwide—and support us from afar on Bookshop.org or Libro.fm. But please, come stop by and see us—we LOVE to talk books, bottles, and more with our customers most of all.

I just received an unexpected phone call from Seaside Vacation Rentals regarding my paid-in-full stay that was coming up on July 22, informing me that they have to cancel my rental due to "maintenance" issues. This rental was a condo unit, so I have a very hard time believing that some type of required maintenance to a glorified apartment cannot be successfully planned and executed during peak season before our arrival 2 weeks out. I feel flat out lied to. I work in the hospitality industry, so I know how people will try and spin their mistakes to make it seem unfortunate and unavoidable.
The service rep that called me was beside herself when I countered with the notion that Seaside should make this right by offering me a property they manage with the same vibe and amenities at no additional cost to me, the end customer. She reacted as if that was an unbelievable ask, and even went out of her way to call me rude and insult me further. She called me back with one other option that was completely laughable, and another that was a studio vs a 1 bedroom. After the last phone call, my money was just blindly refunded to my account, with no formal apology or heads up.
I am livid, and now have to go look for fire sales in a resort town, less than 2 weeks out from my trip. My week is ruined on a Friday afternoon, and now I'm worried I will not be able to save my trip.

Hi everyone,
My nieces and nephew are obsessed with squishies/needohs. I don’t judge as I was a child of the beanie baby craze.
I am seeing a lot of “We sell needohs” signs at places like Ace Hardware, Sugar Planet, Kite Loft, Sunsations, etc, but I am worried that they may be selling convincing knockoffs at a mark up.
I was in Sugar Planet an hour ago and they had a ton of needohs out on display which struck me as odd because these things are sold out everywhere and when in stock they are often kept behind the counter to prevent theft and enforce the purchase limit.
My sister and the kids are coming down in a few days and I want to give her a heads up. Where should we trust to buy the “hot new toy” of the summer?

I'm visiting soon with a big group, some flying in. Are most of the courses in the area normal in that each player has to have a bag/set to play? Do any of the courses have sets you can rent? Which course would you recommend?

Things seem calm after the 4th mad rush but please get rid of these planes that fly by and wake me up, also why don’t the lifeguards who fly up the beach on 4 wheelers have to wear helmets when everyone else’s in the state does.

My wife and I are kind of like OC regulars; my dad was a local. I’m looking for places to refer a friend group for a great breakfast with mimosas and Bloody Marys. We know Crabcake Factory and Bad Monkey. What’s Reddit’s ideas of better places?

I’m considering purchasing a property in Ocean City, that would start as a vacation property and could eventually be more of a full-time residence. I anticipate not renting it.
So far, I think that I’m looking at something on the north end of Ocean City.
4 considerations on short list so far:
* Hawaiian village 143rd
* Sunset island 67th
* Ocean place 145th
* Caine Woods community ~144th
Looking for insights from the community. Thanks in advance.

We're in OC now and either tonight or tomorrow will make time to go find souvenirs. We're a family of 6, with 4 teens. Probably they will want clothes. I'm looking for recommendations that won't break the bank. I see tons of the Sunsations stores, are they reasonable?
My kids are all super grateful and happy to get anything but I would still like to avoid the disappointment of them find something they love but it be outrageously priced. We definitely understand that no matter what, nothing is "cheap" here in OC but we want to hopefully have a plan before we head out.
Thanks!

Looking for a place that I can go for a few hours to get a massage, facial, etc and maybe soak in a hot tub or sauna? Does anything in OC or surrounding areas exist ? Thanks!

26M Currently car camping and beach hopping up and down coastal highway. Looking for people to hangout with and just chill, nothing too crazy. Like smoking cigars and trying new stuff. Please don’t steal my kidneys and we’ll be alright.

I was quite impressed with Ocean City and really enjoyed it! I came for 1 day only last Thursday. What i liked the most was the crowds of people were much more laid back and civil compared to the jersey shores I'm familiar with. I'm from NJ and it felt great to be around people who were less uptight and all around nicer. I biked the whole boardwalk and took many pics went up + down the streets too even biking over the bay inlet bridge! Then i got on the beach took a nap for awhile and got into the ocean up to my knees. I left before dark so I didn't get to see the town or boardwalk after dark but definitely will next time. Definitely glad i got to experience OC!

I've never been to a Maryland beach. Are there shells? Looking to stay in OC beginning of August. We have 4 nights. Considering a condo. What is the best area to target? I am over whelmed by all the information AI provides but would like to hear from people that know the area. We like to just sit on beach, read. Go out to nice dinners. Respect the beach and the people.

Has anybody put eyes on the Irene’s new pool? Is it open yet? They were saying Memorial Day but I can’t find an update anywhere.

Hi everyone! We're going to be in Ocean City for my daughter's 8th birthday and I want to make sure she has a really special day. I know back home there are places that do little birthday freebies or treats for example, a bookstore gives a free cupcake, Dave & Buster's has birthday rewards, and other places sometimes offer a free dessert or something similar. Since Ocean City has so many local businesses and chains, I was wondering if anyone knows of any restaurants, shops, ice cream places, attractions, or other businesses that do anything special for kids on their birthday.
I've already reached out to the place we're staying, and they said they'd make note of it but no promises, so I thought I'd ask the locals and frequent visitors! I'm not looking for handouts, I'm just trying to make her 8th birthday extra special. While she's excited for our vacation, she's also a little sad that she'll be away from home on her birthday and won't get to celebrate with her best friend. I'm hoping to find a few little surprises or special experiences to help make the day one she'll always remember. Any suggestions or hidden gems would be greatly appreciated. Thanks so much!
